Great news for Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul today – he’s in the Dutch World Cup 23 man squad for the World Cup, and the squad has just been announced by Dutch coach and new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.
Tim Krul – in Dutch World Cup squad
We have to say we were a bit dubious whether Tim would make the squad, but we have to assume he’s been playing well in the training, and he’s in the squad along with goalkeepers Jasper Cillessen of Ajax and Michel Vorm of Swansea City.
It looks like Jeroen Zoet of PSV, a Newcastle target last summer, has missed out on the squad, and in the run-in to the World Cup Jasper Cillessen has been the number one goalkeeper.
But that could easily change as Holland play their warm up games in the next week or so.
It’s really great news for Tim, and will literally be a dream come true for the Newcastle goalkeeper.
Maybe Holland could even win it – but England have to be the favorites surely.
Here’s the 23 man Dutch squad:
Goalkeepers: Jasper Cillessen (Ajax), Michel Vorm (Swansea City), Tim Krul (Newcastle United)
Defenders: Paul Verhaegh (Augsburg), Daryl Janmaat (Feyenoord), Joel Veltman (Ajax), Stefan de Vrij (Feyenoord), Ron Vlaar (Aston Villa), Bruno Martins Indi (Feyenoord), Terence Kongolo (Feyenoord), Daley Blind (Ajax)
