Newcastle Linked With Two More Forwards

In the last few days Newcastle have been linked with two more forwards, who’ve we’ve never been linked with before, and they are 28 year-old Catalan striker Jonathan Soriano of Red Bull Salzburg, and 24 year-old Colombian forward Victor Ibarbo of Serie A side Cagliari, who is in Columbia’s World Cup side.

We’ve reported that Soriano is a prolific goalscorer, and since moving to Salzburg from Barcelona two years ago, he’s scored an amazing 82 goals in 96 total appearances for the Austrian side.

But Jonathan will turn 29 in September and he doesn’t exactly t the profile of players Newcastle want to sign these days.

According to the Football Direct News  Newcastle will sign one older striker this summer, with their first choice reported to be 28 year-old Bafe Gomis, who we seem to have been after for a very long time, and maybe that particular saga can end soon, and we can sign the free agent striker – but we’re not holding our breath.

The other player we have been linked with recently is 24 year-old Victor Ibarbo of Cagliari, and the Colombian International has just one year left on his contract in Italy,  and he’s available for around £8M, and he’s often compared with Newcastle’s former Colombian International Tino Asprilla because of the terrific skills he has.

It could be a difficult summer transfer window for Newcastle, with our star not shining too brightly in the sky at the moment, and we seem to be struggling just a little bit to get our first senior signing of the season.

It seemed a blow to Newcastle that our offer of £6.5M  for Montpellier target Remy Cabella on Friday was turned down, after the indications were that the French club would accept the offer.

And with Newcastle wanting to sign players early this summer, so they can get a full pre-season, it’s going to be important that we have a productive June, but it could be difficult to sign players once the World Cup starts in June.

Both Soriano and Ibarbo seem to be alternative targets for Newcastle, if we cannot get our top choices through the door this summer.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

    Crikey, we’re looking a plans C, D, E and F already?

Ashley’s like someone setting up a tent to queue for the January sales before the summer’s even started!

However, it’s early days yet and Messi’s probably packing bags and booked his EasyJet flight to Newcastle already!!

Oohhh, our transfer windows are soo soo exciting!!

So many other teams managing to do business already. Our pathetic board just continue to embarrass us. Bunch of useless tossers.

No not anti Ashley I have given him a chance to put us on a sound financial footing –
BUT now with money in the bank and pays cash.
NOW is the time to spend THIS SUMMER when we have the money.
IF NOT then yes my patience will have run out.

And add another forward to the list we are suppose to be after PAYET of Marseille.

Someone needs to explain the concept of “speculate to accumulate” to the powers that be at Newcastle. Still you still get some good football in the Championship.

Newcastle are believed to be considering a second bid for Cabella – another tenner plus some SD vouchers should seal the deal!

Which school of negotiation did Ashley go to? In any event, he would probably have been declared unteachable!

It’s only the 2nd of June and with the club already having put out a statement saying they want all their transfer business tied up before the start of the world cup,.. we’re already scraping the barrel with cheap foreign imports!

    Ring any bells???

Does anyone out there really think we’ll have a nett spend this summer?

Does anyone really think we’ll not be a selling club again this summer??

Does anyone really think top players like Cabella and Grenier would want to come to a club that have said they’re not interested in winning anything??

    bear minimum

cabs and remy will be replaced before we start pre season then they will reassess the squad and see who of the fringe players they can then they will bring in again if they don’t think they can get to jan, then depending where we are in the league going into xmas will determine if we spend at xmas or not

Well the WC is now but days away
The club said they would like all there business done early and before the WC
The selling clubs will be reluctant to do business before then (if the player we want is going to the WC that is) as a good comp could see there price rise
Three of our supposed targets in Grenier Cabella and Lacazette are in with a shout of going Grenier seems nailed on and Lacazette and Cabella could earn call ups if Franck Ribery doesn’t recover from his injury

Can’t see this being a good summer for the club

Don’t worry we will have them in by the weekend, so that we can all put our feet up and have a few beers and relax.

What is annoying to me is why have they let the squad become such a mess?

Have they not been watching contracts dwindle down?

Have they not had the foresight to see we were going to run into all these troubles with relying on loan signings?

I hate the way they don’t bother with any sort of foresight or forward planning when it involves the footballing side of the club and squad.

Selling top players and not replacing them?

It’s almost like the people in charge are purposely holding the club back. It’s mental.

I’d love to watch these people in their jobs on a day to day basis and see exactly what they are doing and how they go about their jobs in hand.
