Newcastle Target Now Officially On Transfer List

News today that Marseilles are willing to sell their talented 27 year-old French International right winger Dimitri Payet, who played for Lille for two years before moving to Marseilles last year on a four-year contract, for a transfer fee of around €9M – £7.2M,

27 year-old Marseilles winger Dimitri Payet

The new manager at Marseilles is Marcelo Bielsa, and the Argentine has only recently taken over from former manager José Anigo, and he has told the player he has no future at the club, and Payet has been officially put on the transfer list.

Marseilles will at least want to get their money back on the player,  so the reported fee of £8M seems a reasonable one, but whether Newcastle will move in aggressively for the French winger, we don’t know.

As usual there will be a number of other clubs after the player, although Newcastle are now desperate to break their duck in the transfer market so far this summer.

Payet is a very good player with great skills, and he would be a popular signing for Newcastle fans, and last season he made 45 appearances for Marseilles with 8 goals and 8 assists, and before that while at Lille for two seasons, he played 95 games with 19 goals and 30 assists.

We think this lad would be a good signing for Newcastle, but if we really want him, Newcastle will need to move in (very) quickly.

Comments welcome.

Another player linked from Marseilles, another saga about to begin. Time for Newcastle to end speculation and show some results.

    Absolutely pointless.

Our entire way of dealing with transfers is astonishingly pathetic. Spend months and months scouting to make a complete bo!!ocks of it all by putting in a completely underwhelming bid – but hey.. at least we tried!

The unfortunate thing is that even if we were to get cabella, we need about 4/5 more players, bu thats simply just never going to happen.

What is annoying to me is why have they let the squad become such a mess?

Have they not been watching contracts dwindle down?

Have they not had the foresight to see we were going to run into all these troubles with relying on loan signings?

I hate the way they don’t bother with any sort of foresight or forward planning when it involves the footballing side of the club and squad.

Selling top players and not replacing them?

It’s almost like the people in charge are purposely holding the club back. It’s mental.

I’d love to watch these people in their jobs on a day to day basis and see exactly what they are doing and how they go about their jobs in hand.

Well the WC is now but days away
The club said they would like all there business done early and before the WC
The selling clubs will be reluctant to do business before then (if the player we want is going to the WC that is) as a good comp could see there price rise
Three of our supposed targets in Grenier Cabella and Lacazette are in with a shout of going Grenier seems nailed on and Lacazette and Cabella could earn call ups if Franck Ribery doesn’t recover from his injury

Can’t see this being a good summer for the club

    Toon Prodigy
Fully agree mate, has been my arguement for ages
We’ve had since January to have deals in place to replace the likes of Cabaye Remy and LDJ plus set up deals for players like Marv HBA etc be that new contracts or offering there services to prospective new clubs
But here we are approaching yet another window once again seemingly putting all our efforts in to one player with no alternatives

Even the back room staff aren’t properly replaced ffs!
Promoting Charnley and Beardsley, Beardsley may prove to be a decent move but who’s taken over his duties?
As for Charnley it’s a ridiculous move

The club like it or not have hugely damaged there reputation with that ridiculous statement and in all honesty if they are going to attract any sort of half decent player we have now squarely planted ourselves in a position we will have to over pay as with no ambition we have little else to offer other than wages
    It’s a joke

Every transfer window we see other clubs doing business without fanfare or “messing about”and simply getting “the job done”.
We are told going “British” yet again get linked with players from France.
I honestly think that Pardew would not know a good player if one bit him on the arse. I still believe we have some good players but regretfully crap manager and coaches.
Unless NUFC are waiting until July 1st to make some wonderful announcements it is going to be a case of same old.
Pardew better understand that if team does not hit the ground running the abuse he received last season will be tame in comparison to what he will be subjected to next time.
I also cannot believe he has only said he was not up to the mark last season – WHAT ABOUT THE SEASON BEFORE when we were fighting relegation.
As for going on and on about when we finished 5th – Jesus just shut up about it – it is well in the past now – Bobby got sacked for that.
