There is news in Germany today that Newcastle striker target Pierre-Michel Lasogga will not be loaned out to Hamburg next season, after he helped the German club avoid relegation by scoring 15 goals in 24 total appearances for Hamburg last season.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga – relaxing during training in Hamburg
The Hamburger Mortenpost reported this morning that Lasogga’s spell on loan will end, and talks have been ongoing between the Hamburg club and the player over the last 10 days or so to try to renew his loan for next season.
However the report indicates the striker will not be staying at Hamburg, and their Sporting Director Oliver Kreuzer had this to say about when Lasogga returns from vacation next Monday:
“We have an appointment for next week. Pierre has been given an offer from us.” What matters is what he wants. We need a statement from him. Everyone wants to hear that he stays at Hamburg.” ¨As long as he does not comment on this directly, we still have a chance.¨
Lasogga’s mother Kerstin acts as his agent, and that meeting next week is with Kerstin and her son, but the report also suggests the meeting will be futile.
So it looks like Pierre will return to Hertha Berlin next season, but Newcastle have been widely reported to be very interested in taking the striker to Tyneside, but we don’t know if any formal offer has yet been lodged for the impressive young striker.
Maybe a loan could be agreed to bring the 22 year-old German U21 International to Tyneside, but we have also seen that if he’s successful then bigger clubs will be in for him next summer, and it will be difficult for Newcastle to sign him permanently.
We found that out from our experience with Loic Remy last season.
Pierre-Michel has a contract with the Berlin club that runs out next summer, so Newcastle may even be able to get the youngster to Tyneside at a reasonable fee.
