Good News – Newcastle Close To Signing Sunderland Midfielder

Good news today that Newcastle are very close to signing Jack Colback from Sunderland as a free agent, after a number of clubs, including Sunderland and West Ham have given him much improved offers over the last week or so.

Jack Colback – signing for Newcastle United

And there was an article recently on one of the West Ham blog sites saying that even though West Ham had offered the player £50K/week to join them, Jack was intent on signing for Newcastle, and our understanding is that’s always been true ever since we were fist linked with the 24 year-old earlier this year.

Jack is currently on holiday, and the news in the local press today is that he will sign for Newcastle when he returns, and it’s a done deal, and maybe Jack will be our first senior signing this summer, and it’s a good one.

It’s always good to sign Geordies to the team, and Jack is certainly that, having been born in Killingworth, which is close to Newcastle’s Benton Training headquarters, but he joined Sunderland when he was just 10 years old.

Not surprisingly, Colback is a boyhood Newcastle fan, and it’s already been reported that he is one who got away, and we are hoping that doesn’t happen too much in the future.

We’ve also heard from a couple of Jack’s friends, that Jack was always very keen to sign for Newcastle,  ever since the news broke a few months ago that his contract was running out at the Black Cats.

Colback has been quoted as saying this while at Sunderland:

“Obviously parts of my family support Newcastle, but they certainly weren’t going to tell me not to sign for Sunderland. It was an opportunity I had to take.” “It was a massive chance for me.”

And earlier  this year Jack said this before the game against Newcastle:

“As players it’s your job, isn’t it, it doesn’t matter where you’re from, it’s your job to go out on the pitch and play as well as you can for whoever you play for and that’s what I do.”

This will be a good free agent signing for Newcastle, and we’re sure the club are trying to get at least one top striker through the door  before the World Cup starts next Thursday in Brazil.

And the good news doesn’t stop there – and we also understand England have been installed as the new bookies favorites to win the World Cup for a second time.

Well maybe that was (yet) another dream. 😀

Comments welcome.

yep i like a team with a rob lee/kevin nolan/colback type player in it as we always seem more watchable !

bit of fight and determination in the centre where its needed to keep the rest on there toes.

Can’t see peoples problem with colback. Hes a grafter and a solid attacking player who also has the grit in defence

    @5 rotonda

you answer is 3 goals 2 assists out of around 30 games.

tbf our leading strikers scored 4 (goofy 1 in cup) and 3 (cisse) not that its any excuse to sign a player just on merit of how we did last season as it clearly is not anywhere near as good but colback is an engine player not an acm he’s like a jack of all trades master of none.

he will allow us to play a different style when needed and not be so predictable.

Sell Cabaye, get in Colback. The ambition holds no bounds!

Whatever could be in store for us next?

Colback is decent, but hardly a signal of determined ambition is it? He is certainly no replacement for Cabaye. A squad filler.

    Quality over quantity please.
“but he works hard”. Pardew will love that kind of talk for him and his merry group of sloggers.

Signal of ambition? We know that isn’t the case with Ashley first of all employing P45DUE then keeping him there.

Mediocrity is where it’s at with these muppets, but you don’t have to accept it

So we’ve gone from targets like Grenier Cabella and Lacazette to McCormack and Colback!
There not even similar types of players, do the club have any idea about the type of player/style they want or is just a case of grabbing who’s getting flogged on the cheap?

PPB. The problem is that although Colback is decent, that is it. Welcome to mediocrity.

Pardew fills his side with runners because he has no idea of how to structure a proper team of footballers to play a cohesive came of football.

The runners disguise the appalling tactics and lack of guidance he inflicts on the team.

More running doesn’t mean more effective play. Skill and product combined with communication, effort and planned routines help boost game play effectiveness.

    @10 tads

    its the purple/indigo/violet/blue/green/yellow strategy 😉

lets not forget we will be losing around 7+ squad players (nvm there quality or use to us) and will replace them with….erm…..lets just say very very few players 😉

so i’d be happy signing the likes of perez/colback but like you say we need 1st team.

I look at Colback as an improvement on Gosling, rather than an immediate first teamer. Happy to have the lad if he is signing, but their needs to e progress on wide men/creative midfielders and strikers of first team quality coming soon.

As for McCormack, distinctly underwhelming, even if he was 3rd or 4th choice striker. We should be looking at younger players to fill those spots and 1 top striker at least. Preferably 2.

Wow what a shocker this morning has been. I’ve read ppl saying that Ings and McCormack (who hasn’t even been prolific in the Championship) will be good signings along with Jack Colback….what on earth are you lot on about, we need creativity and proven goal scorers not 3rd rate players. I even read that British players will have more steel and won’t curl up like a ball when we are getting beat….can someone please stop using these clichés, you’re talking about players that are too scared to leave these shores and ply their trade in other countries.

Jack Colback is going for a good reason, he’s not even good enough for Poyet at the scum but will become a good player for us? To many ppl buying into Pards BS of grafters….this is the same man who preferred Carlton Cole to Tevez and Reo Coker to Mascherano. I never thought I’d say this but if you lot think these are good signings (McCormack, Colback and Ings) then we deserve this ambitionless regime!! Let’s sell a French International and replace international players with 3rd rate tripe that would get a look in anywhere else!! Danny Graham, David Nugent, Leroy Lita, Shane Long were prolific in the Championship should we sign them as well?

Thats unfortunately true. We just pick up the players available om the cheap. Type of player doesent matter.

Then its upto Pardew to start frm scrath every season. He spends lots of games experimenting till he strikes his pot of gold.

Don’t take the press as gospall let’s be honest we have almost no clue who we’re after.

Cabella, Colback, Perez thats all we know….. Remember when we last signed players we had 5-6

    @17 our toon

you need to read what the fans are writing and not just take away from it what you want !

the fans that want colback here (inc myself) see him as 1st team quality squad player (not our 1st team) and as we struggled pretty much every season through ack of quality “squad layers” ……see where i’m going with this ?

same with those who said about mcormack ! for one he scores goals (shola/cisse/goofy/arma/cambell) was our choices last year and you say mcormack is no upgrade on them as a “squad player” ?

who ever mentioned that anyone would accept these in place of 1st team players ? but they are needed players non the less or would you rather us just get the 1st team 11 and miss out on the rest of the squad maybe to rely on sammy/bigi/vukic/arma/cambell as our squad players next season ?

I’m not writing off mehdi abeid. It’s like the Tevez and Mascherano scenario if I’m honest. Mehdi might do well at the top level for sure and I wish him luck on that. But with Newcastle it could be a climate situation little bit.

When did i say we’re replacing Cabaye with Colback?

Yeah we do need squad players but we have squad players we’ve only lost Gosling who rarely featured and Shola
We need first team players as an absolute priority, that had been glaringly obvious for 2 seasons now
Cabaye had an agreement to go last summer ffs of course they should already have the replacement through the door
    Plus a top CF
And some actual width not a CF and a CM turned into makeshift wingers

Thanks for correcting me on that, the lad is still not going to improve the starting 11….I’d rather give Abeid a game ahead of him

    Pards Prolific Boys

Shane Long scored 4 goals for Hull last season in 15 games….that was in an attacking team what do you think he would do for us? Have you ever seen Long play? His biggest weakness is that he is offside a lot, read what Hull fans say about his offside awareness. I watched the Hull and Citeh match on TV at Hull’s stadium….the lad was offside 6 times. 27 times he was offside last season

Just a thought on this transfer lark from an earlier post. If Leeds need a manager and we want a striker, PLEASE could somebody arrange a swap deal? Obviously, we will have to put some cash in to balance the deal, but it has every potential to be a “Win – Win” situation!!!

    Our Toon,
I’m not convinced Abeid would improve the starting 11 either, however they are different players and Colback does offer back up and squad options. I don’t think he should be a guaranteed starter, and we do need to start adding players who are good enough to do that soon. We have lacked depth and ability for a while. Colback does both for the squad.

Colback can be back up to deeper midfielders, Abeid to more attacking midfielders (if we get any).

he is not cabs replacement well better not be

with this signing we wont see sissoko in the middle so no proper winger for the right, so is tiote or anita or biggi going or will pards stun with his tactical genius and play 442 with 4 defence mids
cant see the point in the signing I also don’t think we need to replace gosling and biggi can replace him

Lilongwe – purely on the basis that they dont have a manager at the moment, it would be a neighbourly act to help them out.

We could, magnanamously, deliver P45DUE and a suitcase of cash to Leeds and bring the sriker we need in the oposite direction. They would no doubt be extremely grateful, maybe overwhelmed by our generosity, but its a good deed at the end of the day!!!

Demba ba who we all know is a proven premiership CF is available for around 7 mill yet we are looking at Ings.
We sold Cabs for 20 mill yet are bringing in Colback on a freebie ??
Come on Ashley we deserve better than this man….What the hell is going on!

We have Bigirimana and Abeid who I’d start ahead of Colback, CM is an area where we have cover…..we can even play Sissoko in his natural position CM, we are crying out for a number 10 someone to play in the hole and colback isn’t the answer!!

Have you seen McCormacks stats mate? Prolific?

Last season 46 games 28 goals (good record) playing in the championship
    2012/2013: 32 games 5 goals
    2011/2012: 45 games 18 goals
    2010/2011: 21 Games 2 Goals
    2009/2010: 38 games 21 goals

All of this in the championship it doesn’t fill me with great excitement and he’s not exactly prolific and he will be 28 later this year…..give me Gomis over him any day cheaper and better, will he make a decent squad player….yes, but at £5m is he worth signing when we can sign other players hell no!! Don’t forget Shola was prolific in the championship.
