More news today about Newcastle’s transfer interests, and we are supposed to be interested in French-born 25 year-old defensive midfielder Prince Oniangue, who currently plays for French first division side Reims – and the report is in Sky Sports.
Prince Oniangue – 25 year-old Congo International
The 25-year-old is quite versatile and can play in defense or in defensive midfield, where he played last season, and he can score goals from that defensive position, having scored 11 goals in 38 total appearances for Stade de Reims last season.
Prince Oniangue is tall at 6’2″, and he can play at center-back, and maybe it’s his versatility that is interesting Newcastle, who are said to be one of three clubs interested in the player, who is of Congo descent.
Oniangue has played 14 times for the Republic of Congo, and made his debut for his country eight years ago.
The Paris-born player joined Reims last summer from Tours, where he played for three years after signing on from Rennes, where he started his senior career back in 2008.
This is the first time Newcastle have been linked with this player, who is said to be a strong and physical player, and he is versatile and also being tracked by newly promoted QPR and Burnley, according to the Sky Sports report.
He becomes the 71st player linked with Newcastle this year – by our records.
Just kidding. 😀
Comments welcome.
Note: Matthew Stephenson is a life-long Newcastle fan and an avid reader of this blog – and he is participating in the Great North Run in early September, and running to raise money for Beating Bowel Cancer. Here is Matthew’s JustGiving page and please donate for a worthy cause, to help him reach his £300 goal for the Charity – many thanks.

Comment #1So with all this extra money coming into the club, we are still looking at the lower divisions or free transfers for our players.
We did better when we were skint an brought in some quality players on the cheap but from the top divisions.

Comment #2firebug666, I don’t care what anyone else say’s I was happier before Ashley took over when we went out and paid £16m for players like Michael Owen and had class players like Alan Shearer to partner him upfront nowadays we have one striker (Cisse) who is a championship player at best, Ashley out!!! we are going down next season.

From previous thread, if after seven years of this carry on farce, the lies, deceit and secrecy along with the dross football unprecedented losses to the mackems and unwanted PL records, you think it is for the greater good of the club as we’re now turning a profit, you’re overlooking one thing pal, our saviour and kindly benefactor Mike Ashley will now want his money back, and what better excuse for the next six years to hide behind is that ‘Mikey has put so much in to this club, it’s time for him to take it back’ not that the fusker hasn’t had enough already.

Comment #4Chin up boys… Don’t believe everything the papers say.
The average first team player we have bought under Ashley has actually been to a very good standard international in a lot if cases.
There just hasn’t been enough or at the right times.
I think we’re actually gonna have a good window similar the January one we had.
If Ashley doesn’t cough up then its clear he wants to sell… So win win really
PS Happy positive Thursday guys 😉

Sorry, I never read you’re second post @28, yes of course I could be wrong and would love if I was, I wouldn’t do a bills and hide if Mashers took us to the the dizzy heights of the CL, but if you see my above post, do you think it’s likely I will be, the guy wants out, but not before he’s had every penny back and more, and he certainly doesn’t plan on getting it back through CL revenue.

Comment #7Anyone else find it strange that we’re constantly linked with Jack of all trade player’s but master’s of none?
Soon the team will be full of them with no specialists in any positions apart from goalkeepers
Who needs a striker? Nar we’ll stick willo up there he’ll do a job!
Maybe parsnip will get his wish now that the ginja ninja looks like he’s signing……4 left backs on the pitch at the same time
And jimmy how can you say we are building a team to challenge the top 6 when we continually sells our better players in the name of profit?
Fcuking waste of spunk the lot of them!
