There’s a Sky Sports report that Newcastle are at an advanced stage in their negotiations with Montpellier for 24 year-old top midfield target Remy Cabella.
Remy Cabella - negotiations at an advanced stage
Remy Cabella is currently with the French squad, and is one of the players who will be on stand-by in case some pf the French players in the 23 man World Cup squad – like Franck Ribery as one example – are not fit enough to play in the Wold Cup, which finally starts next Thursday in Brazil.
The Sky report on Cabella is contrary to recent reports that Newcastle bid £6.5M for the French International last Friday, but that was turned down.
They are reporting that the negotiations for the winger are at an advanced stage and a deal could be struck for around £8M, but that the Magpies have not yet launched a formal bid.
Recent news was that Montpellier are now keen to sell the player, and he has been offered around to some top clubs in Europe, so we hope the report is accurate, and that Newcastle are moving in quickly to wrap up the deal.
And it looks like Newcastle have made their first signing of the summer, with Ayoze Perez presumably signing along the dotted line for Newcastle, with photographs of him at St. James’ Park circulating on the web last night.
It also appears Newcastle will be signing Sunderland midfielder Jack Colbert as a free agent, so certainly things are starting to move in the transfer market for Newcastle – and that’s good.
Cabella is a very good player and in 41 games last season for Montpellier, he scored 14 goals, and last week he picked up his first full cap for France.
