25 year-old Ajax captain Siem de Jong, the older brother of Luuk de Jong, who had a failed loan spell at Newcastle this year, has again confirmed that Newcastle United are interested in signing him this summer.
Siem de Jong 25 year-old Ajax captain
Newcastle have been interested in de Jong for over two years now, and since he has just one year left on his contract at the Dutch giants, he should be available at a reasonable fee.
Siem doesn’t know what will happen this summer, but he knows Newcastle are interested, as he has said this in Soccer News.
“Newcastle had a little chat with my agent.¨ ¨There had been previous contact, but nothing concrete has been agreed.¨ ¨Newcastle is a great club.”
Siem joined Ajax from De Graafschap in 2005, and he made his debut for them in 2007, and since then he’s played 244 games for Ajax with 78 goals, and last season he scored 9 goals in 28 appearances.
He’s another goal-scoring midfielder that Newcastle are very interested in signing this summer.
We would love to see Siem sign on at Newcastle, and if he does, maybe we could give his younger brother another chance – and sign him on a one year loan deal from Borussia Monchengladbach.
Luuk would certainly be motivated to score some goals for Newcastle next season, but he may not get another chance.
What do you think?

Comment #2If we sing to him Ed will he agree to a lower wage? That must be Mike’s plan.

Comment #5Well done to all concerned re the Perez signing. Despite the doom and gloom merchants, NUFC still has a reputation abroad that will allow us to get players , and more established stars that Perez too. Also, f Pardew was such a crap coach, why would guys like Cabella not have dismissed the move out of hand. Clearly he will have spoken with Cabaye, and if we were that bad, he would have advised as such. Keep it up chaps.

Comment #6He’d be a great signing, very technical player would be a good false 9 in a 4-4-2 if he was a partnered with a poacher like Lacazette or Ings

Comment #8Players don’t dismiss moves to us out of hand Munster mate because they want the higher wages that we offer. The wages are crap in France. Perez was being paid crap in Spain. It has nothing to do with Pardew as a manager, they simply want more money. That doesn’t mean we will be a competitive team next season the way things are looking.

Comment #10You can’t build a good side the way we do things. There is no plan to make us competitive. Only a plan to stay in the Prem (even that doesn’t look very certain to me) and sell players when they reach their peak value. Force Ashley out by not buying tickets or merchandise or put up with the same drivel for years to come.

Comment #12Siem De Jong is pretty close to a Cabaye replacement he might be a little slower but gets stuck into tackles, great range of passing, scores goals and can take a set piece !!
Lets get him , Cabella , Perez , Colback in before the world cup !! Its not perfect but it would be a good start
Would still need 2 strikers , a defender and a new manager and we will be sorted for next season WAHEY!!!!

Comment #14Aye jesper mate. Building a good team takes time, patience, skill, and money. Our management brings none of that to the table. Pardew will blunder along until we get into a particularly bad patch early next season and then be sacked. Ashley will then bring in another stooge to run the club.

Comment #15GT…to be completely honest, if we are not close to relegation I don’t think NoNuts will sack Pardew.
…he would have done that already then. He has done nothing but loosing potential earned money since that season we finished 5th.
Desclaimer: how that happened is still beyond me!

Comment #17The trouble is we might well be close to relegation jesper. It looks ominous to me. No willingness to go after good players, especially strikers and good central defenders. That will lead to disaster. There just aren’t enough football brains in the club.

Comment #18Tbh I think SdJ looks quite good. It would be great to get him and Colback in as that would significantly strengthen the center of the pitch for us. We didn’t have much of a link between our defenders and our forwards, and Tiote, who I think did well this season and will likely be in most starting XIs next season, isn’t going to be initiating any impressive attacking movements. That requires more positive players in the other midfield slots and grabbing SdJ or Cabella or both (who am I kidding) would help significantly on that front.
I’m surprised we haven’t had any outgoing transfers yet. I’m wondering when the rumored ‘French exodus’ will occur.

Comment #19There are good moves that could be made to start re-building the squad. Bring in a good central defender, about 25 years old and put Good on the bench next season to see if he can make it in the Prem. Sign a top striker for up to 20M pounds. Get Siem in. Bring in a good winger. That would be a good start. Stop messing about with 20 year old second division Spaniards as if it’s some big deal.

Comment #20What other Prem club would think signing a 20 year old second division Spanish striker was a top priority? Give me a break. Look what Liverpool is already doing to improve their squad and compare to us. We are the Three Stooges of the Prem. Mike must be Moe of course. But is he clever enough?

Comment #28Mike is acting as though the second half of last season didn’t happen. He is pretending we are a solid 10th place club when he should know otherwise if he watched us at all. We are a shaky, thin, bottom 10 side that is losing it’s best (and only real) striker, has no depth at any position and is in danger of doing a Fulham.

Comment #29I honestly think we’ll really struggle next season, there won’t be sufficient investment in players and even if there is we still have Pardew.
our fitness and training are poor.
All boils down to lack of knowledge by MA and money.

Comment #30G2 @28 -good point. Our final position in the league -whilst on face value looked respectable we should not forget that the final run in since January was absolutely shocking and was relegation form. The team just was not good enough -so we need some quality players.
Not just young lads or prospects -otherwise we could be in trouble.

Comment #31Ta Mr. Tuff. The worries will be there until the end of the window as usual. Why this reluctance by the owner to address the real issues? Surely when it comes to SD he can’t take the same approach? He remains a mystery to me. His own worst enemy.

Comment #32Mike let’s a lot of footy – related obviousness slide by because he knows nowt at all about the game. The fact he’s missed the whole comedy show of Alan getting all the players he asked for and still complains about his squad members while we get regularly humped speaks volumes about Mike’s total disregard for the function of the club on a sporting level. While the TV and advertising revenue clocks up, the bloke who does all that nasty team thingy can play at managers as much as he likes.

the mood on here seems better today one development player over the line
and lots of rumours if we actually sign a first team player the place will be awash with laughter and niceness

I think if we send out 5-6 (as we should) then 7-8 would be reasonable…too bad the management has yet to demonstrate any level of reasonability so it seems unlikely.
