Siem De Jong – Newcastle Are Interested – It’s A Great Club

4:08 pm, Friday, June 6th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 106 Comments

25 year-old Ajax captain Siem de Jong, the older brother of Luuk de Jong, who had a failed loan spell at Newcastle this year, has again confirmed that Newcastle United are interested in signing him this summer.

siem de jong

Siem de Jong 25 year-old Ajax captain

Newcastle have been interested in de Jong for over two years now, and since he has just one year left on his contract at the Dutch giants, he should be available at a reasonable fee.

Siem doesn’t know what will happen this summer, but he knows Newcastle are interested, as he has said this in Soccer News.

“Newcastle had a little chat with my agent.¨ ¨There had been previous contact, but nothing concrete has been agreed.¨  ¨Newcastle is a great club.”

Siem joined Ajax from De Graafschap in 2005, and he made his debut for them in 2007, and since then he’s played 244 games for Ajax with 78 goals, and last season he scored 9 goals in 28 appearances.

He’s another goal-scoring midfielder that Newcastle are very interested in signing this summer.

We would love to see Siem sign on at Newcastle, and if he does, maybe we could give his younger brother another chance – and sign him on a one year loan deal from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Luuk would certainly be motivated to score some goals for Newcastle next season, but he may not get another chance.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

    “Siems” a good plan Ed.

  • 2 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:11 PM

If we sing to him Ed will he agree to a lower wage? That must be Mike’s plan.

  • 3 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:13 PM

Is he free? or does he has just one agent who won’t demand a huge check?

…if not then forget a bout it 😉

Well done to all concerned re the Perez signing. Despite the doom and gloom merchants, NUFC still has a reputation abroad that will allow us to get players , and more established stars that Perez too. Also, f Pardew was such a crap coach, why would guys like Cabella not have dismissed the move out of hand. Clearly he will have spoken with Cabaye, and if we were that bad, he would have advised as such. Keep it up chaps.

  • 6 JamesToon // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:14 PM

He’d be a great signing, very technical player would be a good false 9 in a 4-4-2 if he was a partnered with a poacher like Lacazette or Ings

  • 7 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:15 PM

Good player who’s been touted as toon bound for a couple of seasons

Don’t understand why we can’t land players when there interested, cracking player

  • 8 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:17 PM

Players don’t dismiss moves to us out of hand Munster mate because they want the higher wages that we offer. The wages are crap in France. Perez was being paid crap in Spain. It has nothing to do with Pardew as a manager, they simply want more money. That doesn’t mean we will be a competitive team next season the way things are looking.

  • 9 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:19 PM

Munster Mag…try to apply that logic to our owner as well 😉

  • 10 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:19 PM

You can’t build a good side the way we do things. There is no plan to make us competitive. Only a plan to stay in the Prem (even that doesn’t look very certain to me) and sell players when they reach their peak value. Force Ashley out by not buying tickets or merchandise or put up with the same drivel for years to come.

  • 11 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:23 PM

Is Benzema going to the WC?

  • 12 santonthenewmaldini // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:24 PM

Siem De Jong is pretty close to a Cabaye replacement he might be a little slower but gets stuck into tackles, great range of passing, scores goals and can take a set piece !!

Lets get him , Cabella , Perez , Colback in before the world cup !! Its not perfect but it would be a good start

Would still need 2 strikers , a defender and a new manager and we will be sorted for next season WAHEY!!!!

  • 13 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:24 PM

GT…we are a crappy team with a crappy owner and a worse manager!

  • 14 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:29 PM

Aye jesper mate. Building a good team takes time, patience, skill, and money. Our management brings none of that to the table. Pardew will blunder along until we get into a particularly bad patch early next season and then be sacked. Ashley will then bring in another stooge to run the club.

  • 15 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:33 PM

GT…to be completely honest, if we are not close to relegation I don’t think NoNuts will sack Pardew.

…he would have done that already then. He has done nothing but loosing potential earned money since that season we finished 5th.

Desclaimer: how that happened is still beyond me!

  • 16 Toon1978 // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:34 PM

Forget Cabella, to much time wasted. Get Siem De Jong. He wants to come and will be a cheaper addition than Cabella.

  • 17 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:36 PM

The trouble is we might well be close to relegation jesper. It looks ominous to me. No willingness to go after good players, especially strikers and good central defenders. That will lead to disaster. There just aren’t enough football brains in the club.

  • 18 MadisonToon // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:40 PM

Tbh I think SdJ looks quite good. It would be great to get him and Colback in as that would significantly strengthen the center of the pitch for us. We didn’t have much of a link between our defenders and our forwards, and Tiote, who I think did well this season and will likely be in most starting XIs next season, isn’t going to be initiating any impressive attacking movements. That requires more positive players in the other midfield slots and grabbing SdJ or Cabella or both (who am I kidding) would help significantly on that front.

I’m surprised we haven’t had any outgoing transfers yet. I’m wondering when the rumored ‘French exodus’ will occur.

  • 19 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:45 PM

There are good moves that could be made to start re-building the squad. Bring in a good central defender, about 25 years old and put Good on the bench next season to see if he can make it in the Prem. Sign a top striker for up to 20M pounds. Get Siem in. Bring in a good winger. That would be a good start. Stop messing about with 20 year old second division Spaniards as if it’s some big deal.

  • 20 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:52 PM

What other Prem club would think signing a 20 year old second division Spanish striker was a top priority? Give me a break. Look what Liverpool is already doing to improve their squad and compare to us. We are the Three Stooges of the Prem. Mike must be Moe of course. But is he clever enough?

  • 21 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:53 PM

    Nyuck, nyuck, nyuck.

  • 22 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:59 PM

GT…often when I think about Newcastle “give me a break” comes to mind 😀

  • 23 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 4:59 PM

Personally, I’d rather have Moe as owner.

  • 24 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:00 PM

    The bartender from The Simpsons?

  • 25 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:01 PM

Or are we talking about Curly, Larry and Moe? 😉

…thought the three stooges were already here (well Joke InEar has left)

  • 26 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:02 PM

Why don’t we just change the club name to Shamblesville United? With a big picture of Mike the Buffoon on the front of each shirt?

  • 27 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:03 PM

Either one would be a big improvement jesper! Moe the bartender has a better sense of humour but Moe the Stooge is more vicious and spiteful like Mike. 🙂

  • 28 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:08 PM

Mike is acting as though the second half of last season didn’t happen. He is pretending we are a solid 10th place club when he should know otherwise if he watched us at all. We are a shaky, thin, bottom 10 side that is losing it’s best (and only real) striker, has no depth at any position and is in danger of doing a Fulham.

  • 29 toon kk // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:18 PM

I honestly think we’ll really struggle next season, there won’t be sufficient investment in players and even if there is we still have Pardew.
our fitness and training are poor.

All boils down to lack of knowledge by MA and money.

  • 30 Mister Tuff // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:20 PM

G2 @28 -good point. Our final position in the league -whilst on face value looked respectable we should not forget that the final run in since January was absolutely shocking and was relegation form. The team just was not good enough -so we need some quality players.
Not just young lads or prospects -otherwise we could be in trouble.

  • 31 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:31 PM

Ta Mr. Tuff. The worries will be there until the end of the window as usual. Why this reluctance by the owner to address the real issues? Surely when it comes to SD he can’t take the same approach? He remains a mystery to me. His own worst enemy.

  • 32 Tsunki // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:44 PM

Mike let’s a lot of footy – related obviousness slide by because he knows nowt at all about the game. The fact he’s missed the whole comedy show of Alan getting all the players he asked for and still complains about his squad members while we get regularly humped speaks volumes about Mike’s total disregard for the function of the club on a sporting level. While the TV and advertising revenue clocks up, the bloke who does all that nasty team thingy can play at managers as much as he likes.

  • 33 beermonkey // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:46 PM

sensible posts twice in a row prove he is an imposter

  • 34 Tsunki // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:48 PM

Beer monkey I thought that as well. Not a budgie feather or fake signing mentioned and it’s been some time now….

  • 35 PennStateToon // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:50 PM

At this point I don’t even care if he works out. Signing someone not on a free would be a success at this point. Still hoping for 7-8 through the door though 🙂

  • 36 Sazzer // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:50 PM

We are wasting out time and money on Colback not Cabella. We should sign Siem instead of Colback.

  • 37 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:50 PM

    Sadly your right mate

To think that Pardew is the “football man” in terms of knowledge at the club is bloody petrifying!
Where the hell will we be if he sees out his contract!!!

  • 38 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:52 PM

I’m hoping to win the lottery this window, we’ll see which one happens first!

  • 39 beermonkey // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:54 PM

it don’t feel right seeing his name and no mention of hobbits and such things,

the mood on here seems better today one development player over the line
and lots of rumours if we actually sign a first team player the place will be awash with laughter and niceness

  • 40 MadisonToon // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:55 PM

I think if we send out 5-6 (as we should) then 7-8 would be reasonable…too bad the management has yet to demonstrate any level of reasonability so it seems unlikely.

  • 41 PennStateToon // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:56 PM

If you win, hopefully you stroke Mike a check to put towards a player or two!

  • 42 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:57 PM

  • 43 PennStateToon // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:58 PM

Off topic but does anyone know of any Toon fans in the Pittsburgh area? Or even western PA? For the life of me I haven’t found any. Sure would be nice to catch some matches at the pub with people who aren’t the usual lot (ie arsenal, citeh, pool)

  • 44 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 6, 2014 at 5:58 PM

Not sure how many players we’d get in with my £10 winnings but I’d be a lot busier than fat ash!

Beermonkey – I don’t recall in all my time posting on this blog the words ‘laughter’ and ‘niceness’ appearing anywhere, let alone in the same post. In my experience, there’s always a troll lurking ready to pounce on the party.

Wasn’t pushed about this new Perez signing seeing he was playing in the Spanish second division but after seeing some videos it’s plain to see the lad is already better than a lot of our PRO’s.
He’s got quick feet, good chest control, can head the ball, can cross and take on players.
    Looks decent

We should be buying from the championship in this window also so we dont loose our identity and be known as the foreign legion
Solid english spine in the club is what we need ,i actually preffered the teams with leon best and routledge we looked a hungrier side we have lost that english element to our game ,well lets face it we dont have a game we have been rubbish

Nothing like a dose of xenophobia!

  • 63 BandB // Jun 6, 2014 at 6:43 PM

I think the most significant news of the week is that the period for renewing season tickets has been extended.
Anyone who believes that this is about the club struggling to deal with the weight of demand really has the ownership they deserve.

In the next week or so I expect Pardew to make a statement along the lines of: “season tickets thing has hurt us a little bit, if I’m honest. If fans won’t invest in the club, it gives us a problem, for sure. And maybe we won’t get one or two over the line we might have got otherwise.”
I say this because it is the type of insinuation the club has made before, and it has a habit of revisiting its threats.

They might not say this at all. But in case they were warming it up, I’ve helpfully floated it for them.

  • 66 123 Dummet Time // Jun 6, 2014 at 6:52 PM

De jong in a CF role behind a player like lacazette or ings would be unstoppable

  • 67 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Jun 6, 2014 at 6:54 PM

No ! Not wishing to Pith on any of your Bonfires but Siem is not much of an improvement on his brother Luuk?

This will be another case across here of everyone ( Ajax Supporters ), taking the mick out of me when i see them!

Plus, the joker trying to say that he would have Siem before Cabella? Are you completely off your Trolley mon?

Who are we trying to Kid here?

Pardew has had so called talented players in the squad and he,s had them playing the Prem like it was Sunday League?
The lad from Tenerife is a step in the right direction, providing he does,nt let him rot in our so called “Development System”?
So typical that some on here were slagging this kid off even before he set foot in Newcastle!

I see that The Swans have signed Castaignos from FC Twente! He would of been a good signing for us? As would Boney of been? Its a case of same old, same old!
Also heard that Feyenoord Rotterdam are in for Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Norwich? A fact that my mate,
(Feyenoord Fan) was not pleased about !

I hope to god we don,t sign Siem de Jong ?

  • 68 mikeashleyisamackem // Jun 6, 2014 at 7:09 PM

Theres a kid from blyth who plays for fulham whats his name dan brown
    We should sign him

  • 69 roblee7 // Jun 6, 2014 at 7:26 PM

If we could sign Hernandez I’d take him in a heartbeat, still quite young too (26/27 I think?). Think he could do a lot better than us unfortunately, probs champions league team or summit. And please don’t shoot me down, but if we could get Siem de Jong I’d take Luuk back on a year long loan, or sign him if under say 5 mil. I think with his brother here we would possible see a very different player. Also, I know he was garbage in the games he played, but so was everyone else, not exactly an ideal team to come in to when you’re trying to impress!

  • 70 roblee7 // Jun 6, 2014 at 7:28 PM

You could have put Messi in our team for the last few games and he’d fail to impress, we were that bad collectively

  • 71 roblee7 // Jun 6, 2014 at 7:30 PM

I’d also take Franky Lampard on a 2 year contract. I can see him going to Spurs / Man U on a Michael Owen type contract, failing that a move to the MLS. Still has a lot to offer IMO

  • 72 roblee7 // Jun 6, 2014 at 7:31 PM

Anyway, who am I kidding? Perez, Colback, Gomis and Siem de Jong are the only signings I reckon will happen, and perhaps another couple of young dudes. If we get Siem I actually think we might get Luuk, like it or lump it, loan or permanent if cheap enough

  • 73 Sazzer // Jun 6, 2014 at 7:32 PM

Rodwell? He made more less the same amount of games like Cabaye before he left. Jenas made 1 more season.

Tired of Remy? The guy that actully scored goals and Cabella who you must have never seen play since he got together with Tiote and Cabaye more more fight most english players.

So it’s wrong to put blame on our french players. Those that have performed (not Obertan, Marv etc) have been our best players.

Like you I also would like to see us sign Will Hughes, Tom Ince, and Ings but not because they are english but because they are promising youngsters like Cabella, Perez.

So don’t be tired to of our top french players be tired of the lack of quality in other departments like our defence, our bench, our tactics, and lack of creativity without our french top players on the pitch.

  • 74 ganiyu // Jun 6, 2014 at 7:35 PM

we need English players at Newcastle ?? does this statement implies that we don’t need the best talent at Newcastle?? .the premier league main agenda is to attract the best footballing talent to Europe. is there any other meaning or good reasons why English players are the most suitable options??

  • 75 roblee7 // Jun 6, 2014 at 7:37 PM

Sazzer…do you think we have any chance whatsoever of signing Remy? If he has a poor World Cup? I’m not even sure I’d want him. Can’t remember a player ever using us so blatantly to further his career, even poor Mr Ba wasn’t that shameless

  • 76 roblee7 // Jun 6, 2014 at 7:40 PM

ganiyu, I agree, I personally don’t care if they’re English or not, provided they give their all. I mean, is there an English Ben Arfa or Cabaye or Tiote or Remy out there who who won’t be massively over priced? I think not

  • 77 roblee7 // Jun 6, 2014 at 7:41 PM

Ben Arfa – I’m speaking in terms of talent and ability…granted he’s been a disappointment to say the least

  • 78 Big Pappa Cissé // Jun 6, 2014 at 7:48 PM

  • 82 Sazzer // Jun 6, 2014 at 8:02 PM

It depends. I don’t see Remy being a top target for many of the clubs that are better than us. He’s probably on their list like an alternative but not a top priority. I still think it’s a small chance that we can get him. If it comes down to choice between us and QPR again then I think he will choose us since he not got a taste of the toon as long as the wage is somewhat similar this time around.

I take Remy over scumbag Colback.

  • 83 kevymartins // Jun 6, 2014 at 8:04 PM

@Sazzer I think he would chose QPR again like he did last time because he said he wanted that London life. He is not all in it for the football he want’s to go partying and all that crap so feck him.

  • 84 kevymartins // Jun 6, 2014 at 8:05 PM

@Sazzer I think he would pick QPR again over us because last time he said he wanted that london life. He is not all in it for the football and wan’t to run about like a gangster and party. A player that we do not need or want imo

Had to pop off for a bit mates. A lot of you have been asking about the whole Cacapa situation. Well I have stepped in as mediator now. The situation is delicate. It’s poised if you know what I mean. It could go either way. I’m doing my best lads but Charnley is a hard negotiator. We’ll just have to wait and see. Tense, very tense. As for the Spanish Stud Muffin jesper, no I haven’t heard from him. Nor from the Welsh Stud Crumpet. Very stressful times for both of them I fear.

  • 89 lesh // Jun 6, 2014 at 8:22 PM

    Now here’s a daft thought:

Maybe Pardew wants to stock up on English players to enable us to name a squad for an assault on the Champions League.

Or maybe it’s because he can’t communicate with non-native, poor or non-English speaking players?

Now if he had a squad of cockernies to coach, we might just have some success…. With Pardew’s huge talents, one never knows.

  • 90 Ketsbaia9 // Jun 6, 2014 at 8:22 PM

Don’t think Siem De Jong’s good enough for us. We need to sign these players:

    Menez – Free
    Gomis – Free

How much did West Ham pay for Zarate? We’ve missed out there.

  • 92 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Jun 6, 2014 at 8:28 PM

    Menez’s signed by AC Milan.

  • 93 GeordieTwo // Jun 6, 2014 at 8:33 PM

Once I’ve got the whole Cacapa scenario sorted I’m going to move on and make sure we get Ranger and Xisco back. They’ve still got great potential lads! 😯

  • 94 jazzyp // Jun 6, 2014 at 8:36 PM

can explain to me why Siem de jong isn’t good enough for us please pal ???
And you would choose Gomis over SDJ. just shown how little you know !!

  • 95 Ketsbaia9 // Jun 6, 2014 at 8:49 PM

Siem De Jong’s not even a striker. You can’t compare the two. That just shows how much you know.

  • 96 jazzyp // Jun 6, 2014 at 9:02 PM

He plays behind the forward or has been occasionally used as a forward.
Frank de boar classes this kid with massive potential. You don’t make Ajax captain for no reason.
Have you actually watched him this year………..Did you see his man of the match performance against Gronigen or the Eagles. Did you see him Rip Man city’s Defence apart in both legs of the champions league ???
This lad is far better than his brother or anything we have at Nufc. And with an added bonus of being available for around the 6-7 mill mark.
A no brainer buddy……Even for those that no very little

  • 97 Ketsbaia9 // Jun 6, 2014 at 9:11 PM

Would rather give Abeid the chance or snap up Grenier.

  • 98 Wandering Geordie // Jun 6, 2014 at 9:12 PM

You want potential bring back Rob Mcdonald and Franz Koenen…lol

  • 99 jazzyp // Jun 6, 2014 at 9:13 PM

Kets I agree mate Greneir would be an excellent acquisition to our squad. As ive said many times put in a cheeky bid while injured as Lyon are in debt big time

  • 100 yo-yo // Jun 6, 2014 at 9:16 PM

I thought SDJ was high on your wish list last transfer summer ?

The captain of Ajax and an AM with a 1 in 4 record is definitely good enough for a mid table EPL team

  • 101 yo-yo // Jun 6, 2014 at 9:18 PM

    On Grenier

Is this groin injury a weakness that might recur regularly ?

  • 102 Wandering Geordie // Jun 6, 2014 at 9:19 PM

Mackems are signing Ashley Williams from Swansea

  • 103 jazzyp // Jun 6, 2014 at 9:24 PM

    Yo yo
I think its an injury he has had since March-april mate.
I would say he has come back to quick to try and make the world cup.
But you are quite correct as kets was indeed championing Siem de jong to Nufc……..strange that when he has had another good season

  • 104 Ketsbaia9 // Jun 6, 2014 at 10:36 PM

I’ve gone off Siem De Jong after witnessing Luke De Jong here. I feel that Siem will make a similar impact.

One Ajax player that we should be looking to sign is Stephane Denswill.

  • 106 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Jun 7, 2014 at 7:19 AM

    Jazzyp @93 !

Read my comments again mate, the comparison had not crossed my mind? Correct me if i am wrong but Gomis is a striker while SDJ has more of a midfield role?
Kets is right about his preference for Gomis though! Kudos for Kets !

I,ve watched SDJ play in different Stadiums across here and he is the better player of the two brothers, but like Luuk he has good days and bad days, and i doubt he would be able to keep up with the pace of the Prem?
The Dutch League is a level below ours, and if we sign him? Nothing is confirmed, he may be a big hit at St James but he could also flop like Luuk?

But then, like you say, i know very little about theses matters, so i guess according to you, my vieuw or comments don,t count for much? I will say this though, PSV are in the hunt to sign De Jong and get him in Eindhoven which would be a Good signing for them because, lets face it, the team was Crap in the second half of the season and a lot of players would of failed with us the way we were playing.

There are four or five good players at Ajax we should be looking at before SDJ, and i know which they are? But then i doubt if you would be interested Jazzyp ?
