News in the Express today that Newcastle United will watch Ghana striker Majeed Waris during the World Cup to start next Thursday in Brazil.
Majeed Waris – 22 year-old Spartak Moscow striker
22 year-old Majeed Waris joined Valenciennes on loan in January for Spartak Moscow, because he was not getting enough playing time in Russia, and he wanted to earn a place in Ghana’s World Cup squad.
And in 16 appearances for the French club this year he scored nine goals and had five assists, but he couldn’t help his club survive, and Valenciennes finished second bottom, 13 points from safety, and were relegated to the French second division.
Before he joined Spartak Moscow, he played for Swedish club BK Hacken from 2010-2012, and in 65 appearances for them he scored 30 goals and had 11 assists, so this lad seems like a useful striker, and he stands 5’8″ tall – the same height as Michael Owen.
Majeed was named a provisional 26-man squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup by Ghana manager James Kwesi Appiah, and two days ago he was named in the final 23 man squad.
The news is that Newcastle will be watching his performances for Ghana in Brazil, with a view to possibly signing the youngster.
He has played 9 times with 4 goals so far for his country.
