The news yesterday was that Liverpool could be interested in taking Newcastle winger Ben Arfa this summer, and if the news is true, maybe Newcastle should think about why a top club like Liverpool would want a player like Ben Arfa.
Hatem Ben Arfa – Liverpool interested?
The bottom line is that if Ben Arfa does leave Newcastle in the summer, it will have been a failure all around.
A failure by Alan Pardew and Newcastle to get the best out of the player, and a failure of the player himself to earn a starting place at the club.
And the big losers will be the Newcastle fans.
Apparently Liverpool are looking for midfield reinforcements this summer, and since the 27 year-old winger has only one year left on his contract at Newcastle, he would not be too expensive – not for the class player he is.
Liverpool have previously been keen on Ben Arfa, and the fee being mentioned is £6M, but that seems high, and we’d be surprised if Newcastle can get that for him – but there again the high fee should be telling Newcastle something.
It would be a very good move if Ben Arfa does move to Liverpool, and after the breakdown of communications between the Newcastle manager Pardew and the player himself, it seems that’s the only outcome – that he will be leaving Newcastle.
So Newcastle will lose a potential match-winner this summer, and we’re almost certain that a Champions League team will pick him up.
We’d love for Ben Arfa to stay on Tyneside, but unfortunately it’s just not going to happen – given the current environment that exists.

Comment #4Liverpool are in the Champions League so why wouldn’t Ben Arfa go to a bigger club with a strong track record of success?
Will he get more games there than at Newcastle? I’m not too sure.
Does he have an important role to play at Newcastle? Yes he does but he may not start every game.
He came to us as he was going nowhere in France as he was classed as an extremely difficult player to manage and most clubs wouldn’t touch him. Under Newcastle’s management he appeared to have settled down and became more mature but recently there have been too many rumours about him to ignore that suggests that all is not well with him. It’s a difficult decision for him and the club. If he is a disruptive influence then he should be shipped out.

If Ben Arfa goes it’s not ‘A failure by Alan Pardew and Newcastle to get the best out of the player, and a failure of the player himself…’ it’s yet ANOTHER failure by Pardew and the club to maximise a player’s potential.
You just need look at Rodgers who when he joined Liverpool, had no transfer fund and had to make do with what he had to hand – including kids. Now look at Sterling, Shelvey et al.
Need anyone say more?

Comment #8Surely we’ll not sell such a talented player to another Prem club so that he can run rings around and embarrass us? Would we?

Comment #11Its best for Pardew to leave.
Its has been so long since we/ chris got us a player that can play a football.
CH – was sack due to inability to improve our squad.
AP – was make to stay due to stability. (long contract)
What an excuse….what is wrong with Pardew, just don’t get it.
