Montpellier Chairman Louis Nicollin doesn’t like Newcastle United – that’s a fact – and we don’t why that’s the case – but its true, and he keeps taking cheap shots at our club.
Louis Nicollin – he looks like a clown
Last week his right winger Remy Cabella was called into the France 23 man squad for the World Cup, after both Clement Grenier and star-man Franck Ribery were declared unfit to play in the tournament that begins this Thursday, and both were withdrawn from the original 23 man squad.
Cabella was a target of Newcastle United in January, and we are still said to be negotiating with Montpellier for his transfer this summer.
But in L’Equipe today Louis Nicollin has been quoted as saying the following:
“I’m happy for Cabella’s call-up, because he’s a great kid,” “This shows the quality of our academy. It is highly probable that I’ll go see all the national team’s games.¨
“I’m happy I didn’t sell him €8M (£6.5M) to Newcastle.”
Even though Nicollin would be very pleased if his player chooses a club other than Newcastle United, Remy himself seems to be quite willing to join Newcastle, and it appears Newcastle players like Mathieu Debuchy and Moussa Sissoko, as well as Yohan Cabaye, have been urging him to join the Tyneside club.
And if recent reports are to be believed, the compensation package Newcastle have offered the player is a good one, and acceptable to the player.
While Marseilles are also said to be interested in signing the player, Cabella has already stated his wish to play in the Premier League, and we suppose that’s an advantage to Newcastle, although other bigger English clubs could become interested in also signing the player – especially if he plays well in the World Cup.
But having to negotiate with a person like Louis Nicollin is certainly not an advantage, and has to be rather tedious – and we just have to hope that Managing Director Lee Charnley is a very patient and forgiving man.
If that’s the case, then we may even be able to sign Cabella this summer. 😀
Go for it Lee.
