Montpellier Chairman Takes Another Shot At Newcastle

Montpellier Chairman Louis Nicollin doesn’t like Newcastle United – that’s a fact –  and we don’t why that’s the case – but its true, and he keeps taking cheap shots at our club.

Louis Nicollin Montpellier President-300x183

Louis Nicollin – he looks like a clown

Last week his right winger Remy Cabella was called into the France 23 man squad for the World Cup, after both Clement Grenier and star-man Franck Ribery were declared unfit to play in the tournament that begins this Thursday, and both were withdrawn from the original 23 man squad.

Cabella was a target of Newcastle United in January, and we are still said to be negotiating with Montpellier for his transfer this summer.

But in L’Equipe today Louis Nicollin has been quoted as saying the following:

“I’m happy for Cabella’s call-up, because he’s a great kid,” “This shows the quality of our academy. It is highly probable that I’ll go see all the national team’s games.¨

“I’m happy I didn’t sell him €8M (£6.5M) to Newcastle.”

Even though Nicollin would be very pleased if his player chooses a club other than Newcastle United, Remy himself seems to be quite willing to join Newcastle, and it appears Newcastle players like Mathieu Debuchy and Moussa Sissoko, as well as Yohan Cabaye, have been urging him to join the Tyneside club.

And if recent reports are to be believed, the compensation package Newcastle have offered the player is a  good one, and acceptable to the player.

While Marseilles are also said to be interested in signing the player, Cabella has already stated his wish to play in the Premier League, and we suppose that’s an advantage to Newcastle, although other bigger English clubs could become interested in also signing the player – especially if he plays well in the World Cup.

But having to negotiate with a person like Louis Nicollin is certainly not an advantage, and has to be rather tedious – and we just have to hope that Managing Director Lee Charnley is a very patient and forgiving man.

If that’s the case, then we may even be able to sign Cabella this summer. 😀

Go for it Lee.

Ha very good Jim Bob 🙂

I was thinking he’d maybe won a golden ticket worth a few million and an unlimited supply of chocolate for the rest of his life.

He looks like he’s a few screws missing upstairs.

TADS – I think it just shows he is fed up with our cheapskate approach to buying players. We offer an unrealisticaly low offer, which probably is seen as insulting. We then fart about with more and more slightly higer offers, or just stamp out foot and walk away.

Why cant we behave in a normal manner? Why cant we put a realistic (by comparison to MARKET value) offer on the table, then sit down and negotiate the sale?

We would probably be far more succesful in obtaining the transfer while retaining a modicum of respect from the other party. Its not brain surgery, really!!!

We are a joke of a club and this guy is right, Ashley wastes a lot of peoples time with silly bids that will be rejected, we will be an even bigger joke next season when we are relegated again.

I really dislake this guy, but it’s fair to say that the current regime at Newcastle is to blame with those ridiculous offers.

And so far this Nicollin guy is right about MYM transfer.

JimBOB, if Louis Nicollin’s made his money out of dealing in rubbish, then he and Ashley are in the same business!

    🙂

But in saying that, he has a point in proffering piddling amounts for players worth far more than we bid.

Why oh why can’t or won’t Ashley sanction sensible negotiations like other decent businesses?

Surely if he’s appointed Charnley as MD, then all Ashley should be doing is agreeing the budget with him, set ceilings on authorities without sign off and let him get on with things as he (Charnley) sees fit?

Ok, having given Kinnear his head and looked foolish as a result, he may be nervous about letting Charnley have free rein, but if Ashley insists on managing the negotiating process and tactics, then Charnley’s credibility’s rock bottom before he does anything at all.

Is it any wonder we’re not taken seriously.

Lesh I was thinking the same thing, a massive part of me thinks Ashley is just going to ride the toon bus until Rangers are back in the SP, he will see that as a new venture and more or less gaurantee himself a chance of Champions League every season,

although TV money will not be as high.

JimBob @ 14 – Rangers would be of little use to him as they get limited air time outside Scotland. Rangers being in the CL wont help him in the slightest as all Stadium advertising belongs to UEFA – the club advertising has to be removed, or covered for every CL or Europa match.

He will get far more TV exposure staying where he is, unfortunately. Where is the advantage for him going to Rangers?

He’s just happy to reject 6.5Mp from us. How about 8Mp Nico? 🙂

Actually, I hope we sign Josip Drmic instead. Don’t be so sure about Cabella. Hope he got a chance in WC so we could see what he get.

The one thing going for us for players like Cabella is that you’re pretty much guaranteed a start due to the small squad size, so he could choose a bigger club as a bit part player on slightly better than average wages or come to us on a lower wage and play every game then go to a bigger club as a bit part player on a fantastic wage.

The arrogance of Ashley really is incredible.

Believing he can just walk into football and have it different from everyone else.

Massively inflated prices when selling and massively undervaluing players when buying! Why does he think he’s somehow special?

It helps of course that he couldn’t give a t0ss about the club as long as the the advertising boards stay up.

All premier league club transfer rumours can be discounted because we’ll only buy from abroad or championship- which I’d be pretty much OK with if we actually tried….

How can people say he is probably sick of us being cheapskates. He accepted the offer, Cabella thought he was coming here. Then he changed his mind and rejected the offer.

Though normally I agree its cause were cheapskates but this guy is just a wanker and is known to be one
