Reports Jack Colback Now A Newcastle Player

As expected Newcastle United have reportedly just completed their first senior signing of the summer, and it’s Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback, who has signed on the dotted line as a free agent for his home town club Newcastle.

Jack Colback fists in air

Jack Colback – yes I just signed for Newcastle!

It’s not quite official yet – because Newcastle have not announced it on their web-site,  but all the local papers are reporting it’s a done deal.

Jack will have a fight on his hands to get a starting position at Newcastle in pre-season, but he will be relishing that opportunity, and after watching him several times this year playing for Sunderland, he’s a good player and very solid and versatile too.

Jack can play anywhere across midfield and at full back too, and of course having been born in Killingworth, he’s a Geordie and it’s good the lad is joining his home town club.

When the official news is released by Newcastle, we expect to see some comments coming from the former Sunderland player – who joined the Black Cats when he was just ten years old, back in 2000.

Like the case of Ayoze Perez, Newcastle have fought off some very good clubs to land Jack, and they include West Ham who offered him a massive £50K/week, and of course Sunderland. who were desperate to keep the 24 year-old at the Stadium of Light.

Comments welcome.

    From earlier thread:

In principle, nobody should have a problem if Mike Ashley won’t pay more than he thinks a player is worth – provided the valuation is realistic and in line with the market.

Now if Ashley valued Cabella at £6.5m when the lad was on the fringe of the French squad and may offer a small increase now that he is a member of the squad, it’s clear that his valuations are way out of kilter with the realities of today’s market.

So, who in hell is advising Ashley’s valuations? If it’s Carr and/or Pardew, then they really need to get out a bit more.

If Ashley’s basing his valuations on what he thinks the club’s finances’ll stand, then he needs to reassess the reality of underbidding.

Something’s wrong somewhere and maybe Ashley needs to be told by his footballing experts.

Come on Mr Pardew, put Ashley right on this time wasting and futile bidding process – if you dare!

    CHEER UP YOU MISERABLE GITS!!!!!

Jack has a great career ahead of him and I am glad it is with us!! If we can get Gomis in as well for free and DeJong in as well I think it sets us up really well.

What is interesting is an article saying that AC Milan want to swap 2 players for Santon!?

In regards to Shola/Gomis…. They are quite similar, although Gomis is clearly better on the ground. He holds the ball up brilliantly and allows people behind him to come into the game. Something Shola did not do, and baring in mind how bad Shola actually is! Gomis is infact a massive improvement if he could actually control a ball….

As for Colback, when he was on loan he played behind the striker. A role alot of fans of the loan club would tell you he was brilliant. You simply did not see that side of him in a Sunderland shirt, where the majority of his games were played as left back.

I am surrounded in an office of Sunderland fans, trust me I know Sunderlands squad pretty well. Its hard to escape knowing who the judge to be good or bad. Colback was good, but now hes crap since he signed for us. They all like him, like Henderson they just have issues admitting it!

I also know he can pretty much play a bigger part than Gosling. Baring in mind his versatility is a massive bonus. He actually did well at left back, and he has alot of pace which he rarely gets to show. Infact againts Spurs he actually outpaced Lennon, something not many left backs never mind “defensive midfielders” can say they have done!

I am happy he has come, and again an improvement over Gosling.

Also for people complaining about Colback…..

I rate Steve Bruce as a judge of talent… He has bought McLean, Mignolet, Sessegnon, Valencia, Palacios, Zaki, Long, Jelavic, Huddlestone, Bent, Gyan to name a few of the stellar purchases of his time across Sunderland and Wigan, Hull tenure…..

Most of them sold for ALOT more than he paid for them (baring in mind some are still his players they are arguably valued more)…..

He, who also brought Henderson through as a first team player, and sold him. Stated one of the reasons was he felt that Colback was a better player and therefore it allows Colback playing time.

I would argue that he simply has not been given the chance in his desired position.

Just wanted to point out, for those of you who think Colback is replacing Gosling, and that Gomis is Shola’s relacement; Think again.

Have we not learned by now that this clown of an owner and disgrace of a mananger will have Colback as Cabaye’s replacement and Gomis as Ba’s/Remy’s.

Please don’t hold your breath if you think that any world-cup-squad new signing is coming to us this summer. Unless they hear that the tall Geordie lad in Nigeria’s squad is out of contract…

I’d have to question your definition of talent on that list mate. That said Bruce has undoubtedly made some good signings in his time. Let’s hope you’re right on Colback, I think he’s a solid footballer but has been jaded by his versatility, he needs to speak up and make Pardew use him properly in his preferred position.

That is okay, we know we cannot rely on the club to keep us informed. Will they even have a press conference or show our new player to us? probably not.

Who in that last has no talent? Or was not bought for more than he could be sold or was sold for?

I mean McLean? They paid like 350k for him, and sold him for 2.5m!

He had talent, but never improved beyond getting a new contract. Its like 80% of the youth these days, they are spoilt so much a young age they no longer need to improve.

Think Street, the youngest player to get a contract at Newcastle. Supposedly the next big thing and you hardly hear nothing of him now.

Like so many of the youth in these times. They are on so much money they can live any lifestyle they choose, and providing they take relatively good care of themselves they will basically have a 3 to 5 year money on tap contract that would most likely set them up for life!

So we have Perez and Colback ‘over the line’ with Gomis supposedly closely behind barring sign on disputes.

Ideally I’d like Lacazette and Grenier to follow. Lacazette is young and very talented and, for me, would be an ideal candidate to replace Ba (Finally). Since Grenier is out of the world cup hopefully there will be less demand for him and, from what I have heard, plays very well with Gomis. Grenier’s free kick and corner taking ability would also be a much needed addition to the team!

All we would need now is to find another CB to take the reigns from Coloccini and Williamson in the future, and hopefully we keep Yanga-Mbiwa to play alongside!

lol….I’d take that deal in a heartbeat. Konstant is a LB and about the same as Santon, maybe more experienced.

Niang is basically Ben Arfa. He’s a young, tricky, fast RW with a bad attitude.

t McLean, Mignolet, Sessegnon, Valencia, Palacios, Zaki, Long, Jelavic, Huddlestone, Bent, Gyan

    Pawl,
Mignolet, Valencia have gone on to do very well. Gyan did okay. Bent did well, but was hardly plucked from obscurity.

Palacios has done nothing since leaving Wigan. Zaki was on loan, had a decent start and then flopped, so they decided not to sign him. McLean, he bought into a Prem side, and the only club wanting to buy him after were a Championship side.

Jelavic and Long have hardly torn it up at Hull, and he didn’t exactly have to go scouring the leagues for them. Huddlestone has done well, but again had already been doing a decent job when playing in the Prem, so again, hardly talent spotting.

He has also made some even absolute shocking signings as well.

Generally, when a deal involve one player for several others or one player+ money, the team who let the major player go is generally screwed up.

The lad is decent and steady. That’s it. He was back up for them a lot of the time when the specialist player was out.

Don’t mind him signing as he is free and steady. If that is to be the height of ambition after sitting on a pile of money from Cabaye, TV money and the last two windows where we have spent zero, then it is a disgrace.

Pardew uses grafters to cover up the short-falls of his highly limited and clueless management. Colback is another runner and is average at best.

Flair is a dirty word for Pardew and his fearful containing football.

    Ashley out, Pardew out.
