Reports Jack Colback Now A Newcastle Player

1:43 pm, Monday, June 9th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 138 Comments

As expected Newcastle United have reportedly just completed their first senior signing of the summer, and it’s Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback, who has signed on the dotted line as a free agent for his home town club Newcastle.

Jack Colback fists in air

Jack Colback – yes I just signed for Newcastle!

It’s not quite official yet – because Newcastle have not announced it on their web-site,  but all the local papers are reporting it’s a done deal.

Jack will have a fight on his hands to get a starting position at Newcastle in pre-season, but he will be relishing that opportunity, and after watching him several times this year playing for Sunderland, he’s a good player and very solid and versatile too.

Jack can play anywhere across midfield and at full back too, and of course having been born in Killingworth, he’s a Geordie and it’s good the lad is joining his home town club.

When the official news is released by Newcastle, we expect to see some comments coming from the former Sunderland player – who joined the Black Cats when he was just ten years old, back in 2000.

Like the case of Ayoze Perez, Newcastle have fought off some very good clubs to land Jack, and they include West Ham who offered him a massive £50K/week, and of course Sunderland. who were desperate to keep the 24 year-old at the Stadium of Light.

Comments welcome.

Welcome jack and I hope you prove to be a good signing for the toon

  • 2 Average_Contents // Jun 9, 2014 at 1:48 PM

Apparently arsenal are keen on caulker now so if true we’ve no chance

  • 3 ~Anita One Bites The Dust~ // Jun 9, 2014 at 1:52 PM

Well this just made up for the last two transfer windows

    No seriously… It did.

  • 4 Shaker // Jun 9, 2014 at 1:52 PM

i am not saying he is not good ?
every time he played against the big teams
    he did well 🙂

but i expect more big signing from a strong financial club
    like our club NUFC 🙁

  • 5 jazzyp // Jun 9, 2014 at 1:56 PM
Don’t know if this will open up buts its a picture of Mike Ashley and Bafe getting out of an helicopter at the training ground

  • 6 lesh // Jun 9, 2014 at 1:56 PM

    From earlier thread:

In principle, nobody should have a problem if Mike Ashley won’t pay more than he thinks a player is worth – provided the valuation is realistic and in line with the market.

Now if Ashley valued Cabella at £6.5m when the lad was on the fringe of the French squad and may offer a small increase now that he is a member of the squad, it’s clear that his valuations are way out of kilter with the realities of today’s market.

So, who in hell is advising Ashley’s valuations? If it’s Carr and/or Pardew, then they really need to get out a bit more.

If Ashley’s basing his valuations on what he thinks the club’s finances’ll stand, then he needs to reassess the reality of underbidding.

Something’s wrong somewhere and maybe Ashley needs to be told by his footballing experts.

Come on Mr Pardew, put Ashley right on this time wasting and futile bidding process – if you dare!

Jack has a great career ahead of him and I am glad it is with us!! If we can get Gomis in as well for free and DeJong in as well I think it sets us up really well.

What is interesting is an article saying that AC Milan want to swap 2 players for Santon!?

  • 8 Our Toon // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:01 PM

    Previous thread

Yes haha he is the 6ft 4in defender I was asking for, I rate the kid as well though.

I think Micah Richards would also be very useful as would Caulker

  • 9 Average_Contents // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:01 PM

Wow Jazzyp I never thought you’d fall for that picture mate its clearly a fake and is an atrocious one at that

It’s been doing the rounds on Facebook

  • 10 beermonkey // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:02 PM

    yeah it opened

how mch do you think he charges the club for the use of the helicopter

  • 11 Average_Contents // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:04 PM

No doubt astronomical prices plus now he’s on the board officially he can claim it back on expenses too 😉

  • 12 Average_Contents // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:06 PM

I reckon that’s where the AC money went! The fee for spiriting him to Liverpool lol

  • 13 jazzyp // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:06 PM

Never seen it before bud !
Its just come up on another site. Am not on the world of facebook or titter either mate.
    Gomis’s first Years salary lol

  • 14 Shaker // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:08 PM

” AC Milan want to swap 2 players for Santon! ” ??????
No way !!! AC Milan Players are Average !!!

  • 15 pawl250 // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:11 PM

    Our Toon

In regards to Shola/Gomis…. They are quite similar, although Gomis is clearly better on the ground. He holds the ball up brilliantly and allows people behind him to come into the game. Something Shola did not do, and baring in mind how bad Shola actually is! Gomis is infact a massive improvement if he could actually control a ball….

As for Colback, when he was on loan he played behind the striker. A role alot of fans of the loan club would tell you he was brilliant. You simply did not see that side of him in a Sunderland shirt, where the majority of his games were played as left back.

I am surrounded in an office of Sunderland fans, trust me I know Sunderlands squad pretty well. Its hard to escape knowing who the judge to be good or bad. Colback was good, but now hes crap since he signed for us. They all like him, like Henderson they just have issues admitting it!

I also know he can pretty much play a bigger part than Gosling. Baring in mind his versatility is a massive bonus. He actually did well at left back, and he has alot of pace which he rarely gets to show. Infact againts Spurs he actually outpaced Lennon, something not many left backs never mind “defensive midfielders” can say they have done!

I am happy he has come, and again an improvement over Gosling.

  • 16 Geremi's Prosthetic Leg Fund // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:12 PM

Haha Gomis just loves football. Even when being choppered to Benton he insists on wearing his full France kit. Genius photo.

  • 17 jazzyp // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:13 PM

Constant is average at best and no need for yet another DM
Would anybody take a punt on Brede Hangerland on a freebie. Still think you would get a couple of good seasons out of him.And is better than Saylor

  • 18 Average_Contents // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:13 PM

Someone having a laugh mate its clearly a fake, full kit? Plus it’s an old picture of mike getting off his helo at our training ground I’ve seen the pic before without gomis in it lol

  • 19 Scottiedog // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:15 PM

Mind you with Gomis and Cisse up front I am a bit worried about offsides!!!

  • 20 Geremi's Prosthetic Leg Fund // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:16 PM

I don’t want anymore versatile players, hope we have finished signing them. We have more than enough. Time for quality specialists!

  • 21 jazzyp // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:17 PM

I had my hopes up there mate that lol.
Ah well think he will be signed up this week hopefully

  • 22 pawl250 // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:19 PM

Also for people complaining about Colback…..

I rate Steve Bruce as a judge of talent… He has bought McLean, Mignolet, Sessegnon, Valencia, Palacios, Zaki, Long, Jelavic, Huddlestone, Bent, Gyan to name a few of the stellar purchases of his time across Sunderland and Wigan, Hull tenure…..

Most of them sold for ALOT more than he paid for them (baring in mind some are still his players they are arguably valued more)…..

He, who also brought Henderson through as a first team player, and sold him. Stated one of the reasons was he felt that Colback was a better player and therefore it allows Colback playing time.

I would argue that he simply has not been given the chance in his desired position.

  • 23 Wayayman // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:20 PM

Just wanted to point out, for those of you who think Colback is replacing Gosling, and that Gomis is Shola’s relacement; Think again.

Have we not learned by now that this clown of an owner and disgrace of a mananger will have Colback as Cabaye’s replacement and Gomis as Ba’s/Remy’s.

Please don’t hold your breath if you think that any world-cup-squad new signing is coming to us this summer. Unless they hear that the tall Geordie lad in Nigeria’s squad is out of contract…

  • 24 goommy // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:22 PM

Welcome Jack!! he sure improved our midfield. 😀

  • 25 Geremi's Prosthetic Leg Fund // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:23 PM

I’d have to question your definition of talent on that list mate. That said Bruce has undoubtedly made some good signings in his time. Let’s hope you’re right on Colback, I think he’s a solid footballer but has been jaded by his versatility, he needs to speak up and make Pardew use him properly in his preferred position.

  • 26 Ancientcoptic // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:23 PM

“It’s not quite official yet – because Newcastle have not announced it on their web-site, but all the local papers are reporting it’s a done deal.”

That is okay, we know we cannot rely on the club to keep us informed. Will they even have a press conference or show our new player to us? probably not.

  • 27 bobby mango // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:24 PM

Jazzyp – Hangeland is past it. Trust me, I had a season ticket at Fulham last season (closest club to where I now live)…
He is not dominant anymore. Mistimed/misplaced headers and passes all over park.

  • 28 jazzyp // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:26 PM

    Bobby mango
Cheers for the info mate, Use to think he looked a decent player
Mind you on that recommendation we will probably sign him now lol

  • 29 Blofal // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:27 PM

Anyone seen that article that AC Milan have offered Mbaye Niang and Kevin Constant in exchange for Santon?

I know nothing about those 2 players.

  • 30 pawl250 // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:28 PM

Who in that last has no talent? Or was not bought for more than he could be sold or was sold for?

I mean McLean? They paid like 350k for him, and sold him for 2.5m!

He had talent, but never improved beyond getting a new contract. Its like 80% of the youth these days, they are spoilt so much a young age they no longer need to improve.

Think Street, the youngest player to get a contract at Newcastle. Supposedly the next big thing and you hardly hear nothing of him now.

Like so many of the youth in these times. They are on so much money they can live any lifestyle they choose, and providing they take relatively good care of themselves they will basically have a 3 to 5 year money on tap contract that would most likely set them up for life!

  • 31 ToonLynx // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:48 PM

So we have Perez and Colback ‘over the line’ with Gomis supposedly closely behind barring sign on disputes.

Ideally I’d like Lacazette and Grenier to follow. Lacazette is young and very talented and, for me, would be an ideal candidate to replace Ba (Finally). Since Grenier is out of the world cup hopefully there will be less demand for him and, from what I have heard, plays very well with Gomis. Grenier’s free kick and corner taking ability would also be a much needed addition to the team!

All we would need now is to find another CB to take the reigns from Coloccini and Williamson in the future, and hopefully we keep Yanga-Mbiwa to play alongside!

  • 32 TheToonKing // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:58 PM

    @ Blofal

lol….I’d take that deal in a heartbeat. Konstant is a LB and about the same as Santon, maybe more experienced.

Niang is basically Ben Arfa. He’s a young, tricky, fast RW with a bad attitude.

  • 33 niafron // Jun 9, 2014 at 2:59 PM

I don’t see us signing either Grenier or Lacazette.

And i’m not fond of Gomis.

  • 34 ~Anita One Bites The Dust~ // Jun 9, 2014 at 3:02 PM

    Can see it now…

Offside flag raised and Cisse and Gomis pointing the finger at one another.

  • 35 ~Anita One Bites The Dust~ // Jun 9, 2014 at 3:03 PM

    2 players + 5 million for Santon.

I’d take it. Dummett and Haidara are both young decent left backs.

  • 36 Lilongwe Geordie // Jun 9, 2014 at 3:06 PM

t McLean, Mignolet, Sessegnon, Valencia, Palacios, Zaki, Long, Jelavic, Huddlestone, Bent, Gyan

Mignolet, Valencia have gone on to do very well. Gyan did okay. Bent did well, but was hardly plucked from obscurity.

Palacios has done nothing since leaving Wigan. Zaki was on loan, had a decent start and then flopped, so they decided not to sign him. McLean, he bought into a Prem side, and the only club wanting to buy him after were a Championship side.

Jelavic and Long have hardly torn it up at Hull, and he didn’t exactly have to go scouring the leagues for them. Huddlestone has done well, but again had already been doing a decent job when playing in the Prem, so again, hardly talent spotting.

He has also made some even absolute shocking signings as well.

  • 37 niafron // Jun 9, 2014 at 3:09 PM

Generally, when a deal involve one player for several others or one player+ money, the team who let the major player go is generally screwed up.

  • 38 Laurent Robert 32 // Jun 9, 2014 at 3:09 PM

The lad is decent and steady. That’s it. He was back up for them a lot of the time when the specialist player was out.

Don’t mind him signing as he is free and steady. If that is to be the height of ambition after sitting on a pile of money from Cabaye, TV money and the last two windows where we have spent zero, then it is a disgrace.

Pardew uses grafters to cover up the short-falls of his highly limited and clueless management. Colback is another runner and is average at best.

Flair is a dirty word for Pardew and his fearful containing football.

    Ashley out, Pardew out.

  • 39 the truth will out // Jun 9, 2014 at 3:12 PM

but then again he is making signings un- like the fat and skinny ones

  • 40 welshgeordie9 // Jun 9, 2014 at 3:13 PM

I thought we supposed to be getting all our deals done before the World Cup starts which is in three days time, it seems to me we are rushing in getting them in

  • 41 the truth will out // Jun 9, 2014 at 3:13 PM

pardew fails to contain a wet fart in plastic pants

  • 42 Jail for Ashley // Jun 9, 2014 at 3:32 PM

There are so many factors involved for Pardew to get the fans back onside and if only bringing in Perez, Colback and Gomis are anything to go by he’s failed the first hurdle, as soon as he wheels out the over the line spiel on Cabella he’s up against it, he might get away with a shite window if we come out and have an unbeaten run like three years ago, but you surely only get luck like that once in your career, he might get away with the shit window and a good run saving his bacon but a less than satisfactory result against the mackems and he’s also going to get it, let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

  • 43 ilovetoon8788 // Jun 9, 2014 at 3:35 PM

typical pardew kind of player. solid but not spectacular.

if pardew had his ways in the market, he’ll assemble for us a side that will finish somewhere between 13-17 place.

thank god for that though. graham carr/charnley.

  • 51 Go toon gooooo // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:26 PM

    Average one-legged player.

  • 52 Lilongwe Geordie // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:26 PM

No one at the club has said most of our signings should be wrapped up before the World Cup. This is something that journalists have said, and is not a statement made by the club.

  • 53 Mister Tuff // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:28 PM

Well that looks like the midfield sorted out. Anita is saying he wants to score more goals this next season -which is a reasonable comment. With Mr T and Colback alongside that’s it sorted out.
Colback will be able to cover the defence -all day -(he can run all day) thus “masking” our poor defenders -therefore no new defenders needed -sorted.
Only need a forward who can get 15 or so goals -job done – on the cheap -with maximum return from the TV monies.

  • 54 kevymartins // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:30 PM

@mister tuff the midfield is far from sorted my friend. Does nobody realise that we have no wingers? Gouffran and Sissoko are not wingers.

  • 55 Graeme // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:31 PM

He’s a typical P45DUE player; Jack of all trades, master of none. It saves the manager having to think.
Not that there has been much evidence to suggest he ever has, obviously!!

  • 56 Lilongwe Geordie // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:33 PM

Granted, if we were run by competent folk, you would think the majority of it would be underway, but then the deals we are doing at the minute – Gomis, Colback – could have been wrapped up and agreed any time in the last 6 months.

  • 57 kevymartins // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:34 PM

I mean come on like look at this.

    Compared to this

    _____________Ben arfa or gouffran__________

  • 58 Our Toon // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:40 PM

The players you mentioned from Bruce’s list hardly fill me with confidence mate, some of them were playing better for other managers before bruce came on board. McClean is now at Wigan but Bruce never gave him a chance….It was Martin O’Neill who utilised him but teams worked the kid out after that half season!! Colback played 31 games in CM and 7 games at LB

    Mister Tuff
Our midfield is far from sorted, we need creative players. Whose going to create chances for the forwards? What wingers are going to provide crosses?

  • 59 JamesToon // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:43 PM

Statistically, Colback has actually had a better pass and interception rate than both anita and cabaye this season

  • 60 Our Toon // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:45 PM

    James Toon

Statistically Joe Allen has a better pass % than Xavi and Iniesta

  • 61 niafron // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:45 PM

    Pass and interception rate?

…Hum… i just realize if i wasn’t on this blog for years, i would not even know what it mean.

Not a really the romantic french way of football…

  • 62 Graeme // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:46 PM

Our Toon – Our wingers (If we had some) would be expected to play in defensive midfield to stop the opponents full backs, Our “Forwards” have to be tracking back to help out the CB’s do their job.

If we had and “Wingers” who on earth would they be crossing to? If we have one of our players in the oposition box, thats it as far as P45DUE is concerned – any more than that is a defensive liability!!!

  • 63 JamesToon // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:46 PM

Blofal i wouldn’t take constant but i would take 5 or 6mil plus Niang for Santon.

  • 64 Our Toon // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:50 PM

Thats why I didn’t renew my season ticket last year and also one of the main factors for why I wont step into SJP until these muppets have left.

We could buy Messi & Ronaldo but still be dull to watch which is why I’m amazed at fans saying we’ll wait to see who we buy before renewing!!

  • 65 niafron // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:51 PM

All right lads, i now understand the genius Pard is.

He want solid players blockading the wings in order to give HBA all the freedom he need as our CAM.

Great plan, would have done the same.

Well maybe Pard consider to change a minor detail in this game plan: having ben arfa playing for an other club.

  • 66 beermonkey // Jun 9, 2014 at 4:56 PM

I agree on the wingers front sissoko is out there cos he can play there and pards wont play benny
but he did manage to do ok out there could have dne with more goals but 6 assists is not to bad, ideally he should be in the middle with a proper winger and he can play back up to the winger if needed
but goofy I think 2or 3 assists and no real cross

  • 67 Graeme // Jun 9, 2014 at 5:00 PM

  • 69 Go toon gooooo // Jun 9, 2014 at 5:05 PM

Pardew deserves to be sacked and this is the only way for Newcastle to get him out of the club by buying Colback,Perez(doubtful football player),playing Anita in first 11,playing Sissoko winger(at that position he loses 10 balls per game) and so on.Let him go with his suicidal manner. But sorry for this club and the time that will be spend.

  • 70 Mike's Iron Curtain // Jun 9, 2014 at 5:05 PM

    Anybody got any leads?

  • 71 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 9, 2014 at 5:07 PM

Colback for me is a meh kinda signing

Decent enough player but in an area were well stocked
Personally can’t see the point or how this signing has dragged out this long
If the window closes and we’ve got in Perez Colback and Gomis then let’s be honest given the players we need that’s a f**king poor window
A youngun a squad player and another smith/Owen looking for a big payday

  • 72 Mike's Iron Curtain // Jun 9, 2014 at 5:10 PM

    Colback = Gosling
    Perez = Xisco
    Gomis = Shola
    ????? = Cabaye
    ????? = Remy (Ba, Carroll)

Replace those and we’re on par. The vital change is:

    coffin = Pardew

  • 73 usmagpie // Jun 9, 2014 at 5:19 PM

Ok for fellow Geordies it’s as simple as ” Colback is a Geordie, which means like Taylor he will give 100% every game, he has good pace and within the stats has a good passing record in the prem, for non Geordies that support Newcastle Read Above several times. This is a good signing for Newcastle!!!!!!!!

  • 74 kevymartins // Jun 9, 2014 at 5:23 PM

@Usmagpies You left out some key points in that like How his previous club was Scum like how he Celebrated vs us while playing for the scum. Like how he is an average player nothing special.

  • 75 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 9, 2014 at 5:29 PM

Before you start banging the “not a Geordie” drum please point where one person has said they don’t want Colback signed or he’s sh1t?

No one has, not one person
Several have said it’s an okay signing but it’s just replacing squad numbers we’ve lost, the lad won’t be a first team regular
Yeah his passing stats are alright but his assists aren’t, his goals aren’t, we need creativity
Decent player but we have Tiote Anita Sissoko and Bigi who can play his role
A utility midfielder was most definitely not needed this summer in any way shape or form
And before pinning up up Taylor as a shining Geordie light to the nation let’s not forget this is a lad who handed in a transfer request when we didn’t meet his wage demands before buckling after the club called his bluff and transfer listed him
This is the same lad happy to sit on the sidelines watching his bank balance and belly increase weekly
    What an icon, 100%? Please

Me thinks this is a decent signing. He’s British for a start. Rather have him than some unknown Frenchie.

There would need to be about five more faces to join him though.

  • 78 Mister Tuff // Jun 9, 2014 at 5:39 PM

kevy @54 – we’ll not need any wingers -we need the “midfield/wingers” to add that extra cover for our defence. This tactic just needs one forward who will await the big boot upfield – and poach a few “one man goals”.
This tactic is mentioned in “The Percy Parsnip 1980’s Manual of Football Coaching”.
It’s not really a manual -which suggests an important treatise on the subject – but just a couple of photostated A4 pages.

  • 82 Jail for Ashley // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:06 PM

I can categorically state that I wouldn’t under any circumstances want to see us relegated, but I would rather have a decent cup run and a relegation scrap than amble along in a meaningless way like we did for the second half of last season.

  • 83 Average_Contents // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:09 PM

That lineup just made me shudder in anticipation of parsnip using it which he probably would :@

  • 84 Laurent Robert 32 // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:20 PM

I hope Pardew and Ashley don’t think that a break from the season wipes a clean slate from last year and he has ’til Christmas’ to get results.

Neither should be involved with the club.

Shrewd business is one thing, but with the amount of money clawed in and no spending in last two windows, a capable manager should be in place and for the sake of £2m or so and playing hard ball with clubs, we need to get quality signed up.

  • 85 Spoof // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:20 PM

that line up is very unlikely, Debuchy wants to go, Mbiwa is on the transfer list, Santon is aware of Italian clubs interests and Shola no longer plays for us !!!!!!!

  • 86 usmagpie // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:23 PM

kevymartins First lets deal with you. He celebrated winning a game against us yes but that’s just football, its just like when the national team plays, for instance I cannot stand Rooney in a Man U shirt but whne he scores for England I love him. He celebrated winning a game anyone would do the same thing its part of the game. I don’t think he is average I honestly feel he has some quality for Newcastle in the middle of the park and if memory serves me I did see tons of games where our midfield didn’t seem bothered if we won or lost, this kid will be bothered.

  • 87 GeordieTwo // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:28 PM

Colback is our big signing for the summer mates! Enjoy! 🙂

  • 88 Average_Contents // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:31 PM

A bit of info from ayoze’s agent saying why he signed for us! Interesting they mention strong financially and making foundations! Probably got lied to like other players who came here lol

  • 89 Laurent Robert 32 // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:31 PM

I was talking to a Sunderland fan a number of weeks ago and they were saying Colback blows hot and cold although can be decent.
Again, squad player to cover injuries, no problem on a free. If there’s no sign of a Cabella or a couple of quality sparks coming in then it is useless.

    Don’t forget the in/out ratio.

Who cares if we get say 3 or 4 players in if 5 leave.

Nothing has changed. Ashley and Pardew out

  • 90 kevymartins // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:32 PM

@USMagpie It does not matter where you are from. A real footballer should have the desire to do best as possible every game he gets.

Do you think Messi would play any better if he left Barca and wen’t to some Argentinean team?

Do you think Ronaldo would play any better if he went back to lisbon?

Do you think that Rooney would play better if he went back to Everton?

  • 91 GeordieTwo // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:33 PM

Now that wor squad is fully reinforced we’ve got nothing to worry about lads! 17th place is ours! Huzzah!!

  • 92 scout // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:33 PM

Colback a good signing, proven in the prem at the end of the day. Gomis in next then a couple of mids and a centre back, job done.
No one else will leave, you lot wish them out

  • 93 usmagpie // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:33 PM

toonarmydownsouth. Now for you. This is where you lack of memory has left the building. Look back through the threads that Ed has posted and see all the negative post about this kid, my post was a to let people know this kid will do well for us and no offence but I do think this kid will be a regular in our squad and like my earlier post some of our midfield lacks heart did you not watch the last several games. As for Taylor he is leaving because he cannot get first team football, that’s not a bad thing. I have never rated Taylor as the best player we have ever had in defense far from it, but like most players that are from the town, they do more than anything want to win for the club and the town they support that’s 100%. So icon ? I never ever said that but passion for the club although leaving, are you telling me he does not have that. ( Really )

  • 94 GeordieTwo // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:35 PM

We’re looking very powerful now, especially up front. Top clubs are quivering in fear. Cisse with a slightly broken kneecap, backed up solidly by Armstrong and Perez! Shear striking power!

  • 95 GeordieTwo // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:36 PM

Dream on scout mate. Several more to leave.

  • 96 kevymartins // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:38 PM

@Usmagpie There you go again saying our Midfield lacks heart. How the F can you even say that. Tiote Bleeds for our team. Anita had the highest work rate in the team when cabaye left he never stopped running. Same with Gouffran and Sissoko first half of the season complete work horses only difference with then was it finally showed that they were playing out of position and the tectics where all wrong.

  • 97 Pardews Prolific Boys // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:39 PM

    Spoof. How about
    Raylor saylor Williamson dummet
    Anita Tiote sissoko colback

  • 98 scout // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:39 PM

Same crack every end of season pal its becoming boring. If they go you cant blame them anyway they all leave for bigger or more successful clubs.
Everyone at every club is for sale at a price.

  • 99 GeordieTwo // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:40 PM

It looks to me as if we’re definitely being set up for a fall now. Why is a big question? Does Pards have a clause in his contract such that Ashley can get out of paying him off if we sit in the bottom 5? Otherwise this looks like club suicide to me.

  • 100 GeordieTwo // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:41 PM

We will have one of the weakest lineups in the Prem next season the way we’re going. How to make sense of it? I can’t.

  • 101 kevymartins // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:42 PM

@Usmagpie next you will be saying we must sign Danny Graham because he is a geordie and will give an extra 100% to what the other guys give. As I said it does not matter where you are born. If you have the quality then you have it and if you don’t then it’s tuff titty.

  • 102 GeordieTwo // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:44 PM

Thanks pal. I get your drift mate. Why we let it get to this state every summer is beyond me. Possibly there is incompetence within the club? No surely not. Hirings such as Kinnear demonstrate that.

  • 103 GeordieTwo // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:45 PM

We’re clearly a superior club with superior management. Every other club is jealous of us. Pardew for England when we’re out in the first round!

  • 104 usmagpie // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:45 PM

Key Key Key, Yes it should not matter what team you play for and where you are from, but honestly you think all of our squad gives 100% every game? If your from Newcastle and you support the club, are you trying to tell me home grown players don’t give that extra and give the 100% we need, look at the last 10 games, Newcastle fans were Pis#ed because of the lack of passion through-out the team. As a fan if we lose and the team gives everything they have, then fair play to the other team and fair play to our players.
As a fan if we lose and the team gives 75%, then listen to the boos at the ground. The fans don’t Boo lack of winning, they Boo lack of effort.

  • 105 Toonfan8 // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:46 PM

Colback will be good squad player, can play a lot of positions, bring pace and solid left foot….Perez bring pace, skills and goals, but we have to bring him slowly…Gomis would be good too, good at hold up play and bring others to the game…those three and we need only one pacey winger, creative cm and strong cd and powerful striker…Cabella,Grenier,Van Dijk and Lassoga and we have fantastic squad…but thats only dream of nice summer window 😀
    imagine that
    debuchy,Van Dijk,Mbiwa,Santon
    cover line up
Cisse,Colo,Obertan for me can be sold
young players….Good,Dummet,Bigi,Sammy,Pérez and Arma…and Raylor squad player…thats 29 men squad….thats big enough and lots of options there for Pardew…

  • 107 Mister Tuff // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:47 PM

Some quotes below from Ayozes’ agent. What is this about laying new foundations and the insistence of Percy Parsnip.
Looks like the poor folk have fallen for Percy’s patter – the silver tongued snake oil salesman – has sold another false dream to these poor folk. New foundations my arse -if you pardon the expression.
“We have chosen the best option. A four-year contract in a British team, which will allow Ayoze to develop his game.
“It is a powerful club financially and in terms of structure. They are laying down the foundations of a new project.
Bonales revealed that talks first began last April, adding:
“Tenerife have done good business, rejecting offers from clubs like Real Madrid, Valencia, Roma and Porto among others, and making €2 million for a player who has six months left on his contract.
“There was a verbal agreement with Porto but it was the insistence of Alan Pardew that was so great – and we managed to sit down with the British club to close the deal.”

  • 108 usmagpie // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:47 PM

Key wow Danny Graham, now that’s a stretch!!!

  • 109 kevymartins // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:49 PM

@Usmagpie it may look like they give a little bit extra when they celebrate or something like with Steve Taylor. Where was he last season?

So Tim Krul/ Mathieu Debuchy/ Cheik Tiote/ Mike Williamson who had the best season of his career didn’t show passion and didn’t give there all?

They all worked pritty hard imo and it wasn’t there fault but Alan Pardew for not playing the team the way it should be played.

If our fans are starting to appreciate average players on a free then god help us.

People seem to forget how big of a club we are. We made £97m last season on tv rights and Cabaye. We should be signing the Cabella’s the Grenier’s not the colback’s

  • 112 kikgras // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:54 PM

asking a silly question: If history tells us that the current regime really won’t go after cups, titles, big names etc., why does anyone gets upset when it doesn’t happen?

Oh, if only we had this or that, things would be better. Well they aren’t, so why get excited about it? bite the pillow and enjoy it….really our only option.

    …and I’m and optimist.

  • 113 usmagpie // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:56 PM

Don’t read everything then Key, I didn’t say passion all season or anything like that I said look at the last 7 – 10 games and be honest, our midfield looked terrible, and before you come back with out of position play all I can say is a good football player can play anywhere in the midfield if needed, they do train for this in practice. Colback can play anywhere across the midfield and defense if needed. Sorry but to me that’s a good signing for the club.

  • 114 Jail for Ashley // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:56 PM

    Mister Tuff,
    Good evening,
So the foundations are being laid for a new project, I wonder if the old foundations for the other five year plans have been dug up or just scattered down on top of them, although Perez won’t care much about that, if he’s any good he wont be here beyond his original deal.

  • 115 Jail for Ashley // Jun 9, 2014 at 6:57 PM

Forget Cabell, Nicolin is not going to let him go to NUFC, the guy really hates us.
Grenier injured and not in WC squad is an opporturnity for NUFC to go after him.
Grenier and Siem DeJong will be enough for creative midfields and it seems that HBA wants to stay.
We should need another 1 or 2 strikers and a CB or give Streete, Mbabu, Good a chance to be backup CB.

  • 119 nimo // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:00 PM

Don’t understand why people are slating the lad before he’s kicked a ball. People saying they remember when we was spending big and are/were a massive club must have short term memory loss because except the 5th place finish we’ve been poor for 10yrs maybe more.. Last big name players we signed hardly worked wonders have they.. Name players costing more than 10million who have been amazing for us, theyre not many ..
The Sunderland fans I know are gutted the lads left them and put him down to one of the main reasons they stayed up, him and bardsley..

  • 120 kevymartins // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:01 PM

@Usmag Colback is nothng more than a squad player. I can guarantee you that if we sign anyone like Cabella or Grenier then Colback has no chance of getting a start unless we get injuries.

  • 121 Jail for Ashley // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:04 PM

But your name has clearly got a V in it !

  • 122 usmagpie // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:04 PM

Key I was Born in Ashington. Please don’t talk to me like I am some sort of closet fan, I bleed Black and White. I’m not happy and never have been with the lack of spending we choose not to do and all I can say is the fans have every right to be mad that we don’t give the extra 2- 4 million for a player that is clearly worth 10 million. It makes my blood boil that Ashley seems to love our scouting team going to Europe and scouting for the rest of the prem, trust me several clubs in the prem don’t have scouts, they just wait to see what players we have scouted. Is Colback the answer, no never said that. But he can and will do a job for the team I can say that 100%.

  • 125 kevymartins // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:07 PM

@Nimo Not necessarily slating him but pointing out the fact that he is nothing special. That we deserve better. From Cabaye to Colback? really? and people are happy with that?

We deserve top class players and we shouldn’t summit to getting average mediocre players on the free.

Ba was the exception because he was a complete beast but Colback does not offer that sort of quality. I would much rather play Adam Armstrong than Colback.

  • 126 Santon03 // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:07 PM

so far so good, 6 days since window opened and 3 signings. better than last season

  • 127 Jail for Ashley // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:08 PM

Mike Ashley has been at the club for seven of those ten years mate, and the blimp we suffered after SBR left wasn’t down to lack of ambition but a very strange and unnecessary firing of the great man without having a replacement lined up, I think SBR would have gladly gone upstairs while his appointed successor came in, so lets not point fingers at big money signings not working out, there was at least intent there to be successful.

  • 128 Toon1978 // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:08 PM

Some of the comments by SAFC supporters in regards to Colback is bordering on madness. Some threatening to do bad things to a Toon fans daughter. Others wishing Colback breaks his legs and never plays gain. I can accept the banter but some of it is just plain nasty and below the belt.

  • 129 Jail for Ashley // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:10 PM

  • 130 Jail for Ashley // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:12 PM

It has nothing to do with the window opening, they are(possibly) two free signings and a guy refusing to sign a new deal, in effect they could have been made in principle months ago.

  • 131 Big Pappa Cissé // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:12 PM

It does not matter where you are from ever fan are equals.

I just disagree with the fact that you think Jack Colback will be a world beater when he is mediocre. And that you think we should be signing players like Jack Coleback and not Cabella.

Let’s take a vote and see. What do you guys think is best for the club and will take it forward signing Jack Coleback for free (He is a geordie) Or getting the funds out and paying around £10m for someone like Cabella (From France)

  • 133 carl // Jun 9, 2014 at 7:27 PM

It’s not only our fans who are fickle. Reading a Southampton fanzine there are certain comments on Mauricio Pochettino that are very similar to the endless criticism on here of Pards. The Southampton manager will be remembered, but for what exactly it’s not completely clear. The club enjoyed a period of mid-table Premier League comfort while he was in charge. There were also rare points gained at Old Trafford and Anfield. Anything seemed possible, even if it didn’t always materialise. February’s fifth round FA Cup defeat to what was a struggling Sunderland side resulted in Pochettino being criticised by Southampton fans for resting several automatic choices.

While there are no guarantees a full strength team would have won, the consensus was that surely it would have been better to have had a real go at the competition.

Much credit is given to Nigel Adkins who left a number of top draw youth academy players. There was also money for him to spend that previous managers could only dream of. The £8 million paid for Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren was considered good business, but the club record £15m spent on Dani Osvaldo was an expensive mistake. But perhaps one of most memorable quirks of his management was his reluctance to speak English during post-match interviews.

Pochettino has been praised by many for the way Southampton have played over the last season and a half. But that praise was put into context by José Mourinho, who said Pochettino had the dream job at St Mary’s with good players, a good club, but no pressure. He was probably right. After almost a decade of ups and downs, mid-table in the Premier League is considered relative success for Southampton. In the last few days callers into football phone-ins have said Pochettino needs time to make his mark at White Hart Lane.

  • 134 usmagpie // Jun 9, 2014 at 8:09 PM

    Lol Key Aka Kev.
You want to vote on something that has no bearing on anything I have said, do I think Colback is better than Cabella, I never ever said that. But looking at players that we sign Cabella on paper looks like the real deal but so have other players and there is no guarantee that he will handle the premiership, that is a coin toss. And the other issue is once we get him Ashley will sell him if he’s like a Cabaye. Great back to square one, at least with Colback he’s not going to get sold anytime soon.
As for the Geordie thing, yes a fan of the club is a fan of the club, but talk to anyone born in the area you would get a different view when the Toon lose the town feels like crap for that whole week until the next game. I know the passion in the town is greater when you are raised and live in the area, you deal with Sunderland fans that live their and you work with. I know that living in the states, I have never seen a Sunderland shirt
and I never get crap from anyone when we lose, trust me that helps a little.
