Newcastle United wanted to get Remy Cabella into Newcastle before the World Cup started, but events haven’t turned out in Newcastle’s favor, as our initial rather low bid of £6.5M for the French International was immediately rejected by Montpellier Chairman Louis Nicollin.
Remy Cabella – first bid immediately rejected
And with Franck Ribery and Clement Grenier being unable to play in the World Cup because of injury, Cabella is now in the French World Cup squad of 23, and that could mean little business will be done for the creative winger until the end of the tournament on July 13th.
And at least one reason for that is that Nicollin will be hoping that his player first of all gets some playing time for France, and then that he plays well, and that would help to push up the transfer fee of the winger.
Montpellier hope there will be a bidding war develop for their 24 year-old winger, but Mike Ashley has shown more than once that he’s not interested in paying above his valuation – for any player.
That has meant that in the past the transfer negotiations have dragged on and on for some of our targets, and that sometimes we just walk away from the deal.
And that could happen again with Cabella, although a second higher bid is expected to come from Newcastle United this week – but at best it will be around £8M – and nowhere near the £12M that Nicollin would like to get.
However, Nicollin will simply reject Newcastle’s next offer, and hope that Cabella plays well in the World Cup for France.
This thing could drag on and on this summer – something we’ve had to endure in the past, since Mike Ashley bought the club seven years ago.
Comments welcome.

As i said 2 days ago, Cabella to the world cup is a bad news for us.
Can’t say now if he will see some action or not, but this is really possible.
Everyone in France agree about the fact he’s bringing something different to this group.

They’ve made a big thing about not paying over the price they’ve valued at, whose qualified at the club to say Cabaye is worth 20M and Cabella 6.5M ?

They’ll continue to low-ball offer’s and we’ll end up with cast off’s and hand-me-downs…………………………can’t wait for the season to start 😉

If we don’t make significant progress in the transfer market this summer the only thing enjoyable next season will be watching Pardew squirm as he hides in his dug out, if we lose against the mackems at home again he’s going to wish he was never born.

Yes.
THe team yesterday (probably the starting eleven fot the world cup except precisely Sissoko…):
Lloris GK
Evra LB
Sakho CB
Varane CB
Debuchy RB
Cabaye DM
Sissoko RM
Matuidi LM
Valbuena RW
Benzema LW
Giroud CF
But concerning the forwards, Benzema was most of time very high, close to giroud, playing like a withdrawn striker and Valbuena generaly assumed the CAM position.
In order to give us some width, Debuchy and Evra played almost like true wingers…
So you see, an offensive and a bit unbalanced team…

Another good laugh this morning lads -cheers perked me up a bit.
Nothing wrong in having a dream or hope.
However, to even think England could win the WC and for Benzema to win the Golden Boot well I think not.

agree mate, this summer is the most significant one in our recent history, as if they get this wrong we could drop out of the league and I can’t see the immediate return we managed last time Ashley’s amateur fumbling’s sent us down.

Why the hell am I having a go at the Neggars bud ??.
All I have said is that rather than get on his back before he has kicked a ball, Lets hope that he becomes a good signing for us.
Quite a simple thing to comprehend really pal.
I at the beginning when the news started circling wasn’t really championing for us to sign him…..But was gladly told by others to give him a chance.
you seem to have taken this personally jail as you’ve brought this comment up twice now

Comment #102Pardew could be thinking about playing 4.2.3.1 again next season, it would seem to fit the squad we have – with a mixture of midfielders/attackers and lack of strikers. I would be expecting Anita dropped with Colback in beside Tiote. The three ahead of that being Gouffran left, Sissoko right and hopefully Cabella in the centre.

I think sissoko playing in that formation with tiote and colback or with just 2 in the middle with tiote really suits his game I.e a beast patrolling the middle of the park!
Either:
Sissoko Tiote colback
Hba Lacezetta Cabella
Or:
Sissoko Tiote
Hba Siem dj cabella
Lacezetta/Pacy striker

Comment #110niafron -afternoon – well France have got an easy group -(if there is such a thing in the WC finals) -Switzerland,Ecuador and Honduras. So potentially Benzema could get a few – France should get though the group stages (if they do not start arguing and fighting amongst themselves). However, at the knockout stages -I fancy France will exit thus ending Benzemas prospects.

Santon has just turned 23 this year mate. £10m for a full back who will command more of a fee in a few years, Dummett is the only LB we should be getting shot of

I’ve not been impressed with the Italians mate, think they might struggle big time. They had worse results than us, the older players are too old now and the younger ones don’t seem to be good.
Didn’t they recently draw against the mighty Luxemburg….They’ve not won an international game out of last 7 attempts either

Agreed mate Tiote and Sissoko as DM would be a scary proposition for any opposition and would allow the attacking players to express themselves. Sissoko on the RW does alot of running but I’d prefer someone who is naturally suited to that role.

Comment #119Hadaira would be my preferred LB, So where does that leave Santon. I don’t really think over the last 2 seasons he has made a step up to the LB position and would like to see Hadaira given a chance.
Dummett for me gets destroyed every time somebody attacks his flank and is caught out of position more than a little

Do you propose that we let our best LB go then and keep Dummett?
Hardly improves the 1st team or the squad does it mate. To me selling Santon is a step backwards
