There is news today that Newcastle are interested in 25 year-old Argentine midfielder Diego Perotti, who is currently at Sevilla, and has played twice for the full Argentine National side.
Diego Perotti – 25 year-old Sevilla left winger
We were first linked with Perotti back in the summer of 2011, when we were flush with the £35M we got from Liverpool for Andy Carroll, but nothing came of that initial interest in the Argentine.
Perotti joined Sevilla from Buenos Aries club Deportivo Moron back in 2007, when he was just 18, and so far he has played 159 games for the Spanish side with 16 goals and 25 assists, and near the end of last season he went on loan to Boca Juniors, back in his homeland.
Perotti mainly plays on the left wing, but he is good with either foot, and here’s another example of Newcastle after a midfielder who can potentially score some goals.
The story is in The Sun and the transfer fee is a typically low one, just £3.5M, and even we can afford that. 😀
One reason that Diego was sent on loan to Boca Juniors is that he was finding it hard to get a game at Sevilla, and last season he played 21 games with 5 goals and 2 assists.
So there’s not much we can see in his record that would suggest why Newcastle think he is any better than the wingers we already have at the club, and who we’ll be letting go this summer, such as Gabriel Obertan, Sylvain Marveaux and Jonas Gutierrez.
And the season before last, Diego played just 20 games with one goal and one assist – so he’s not exactly a regular for Sevilla, who finished 5th top of the Spanish League last season.
His two caps were also way back in 2009, so from what we can tell Perotti looks like a fairly ordinary player, and not much better than the wingers we already have at the club, and who are deemed not good enough for the team.
This lad seems a mediocre player at best.
