70 year-old Montpellier Chairman Louis Nicollin has had an interview in France with Le10sport tonight, and he again has maintained his previous position that Newcastle is not the right club for Remy Cabella to join this summer.
Louis Nicollin – – Montpellier’s top man
This is what Lois’ latest outburst is all about:
“I saw that Thauvin was bought for €16M, and I think that Cabella is a little bit better than him. So I will say €16M. And if nobody gives that to us then he will stay.¨
¨He has another two years on his contract and we are not under pressure. The players should not always win. When a player decides he wants to leave he becomes a nuisance trying to make it happen. I hope he leaves but if it is not on our terms, he will not be leaving. That is a guarantee.”
“The ‘big’ English club Newcastle made an €8M offer three weeks ago and I refused it. I do not think that Newcastle is the place for him. and I also think that they take us for idiots these guys. They sold Cabaye to PSG for however many millions, they do not have to take us for morons.”
“Vincent Labrune (President of Marseilles) called my son to tell me he was interested . I like Labrune a lot, he is my mate, but if he wants Cabella, he will give me €16M. That is clear even though I am friends with him.”
“PSG? No. They contacted us about Stambouli but not Cabella at all. He wasn’t very good when we played our last game against them.”
We are not sure why the Montpelier Chairman dislikes Newcastle United so much – maybe black and white are not his favorite colors?
But Louis is also close to being accurate that Newcastle are miserly, and the way we have gone about our transfer business over the last several years takes the definition of thrift to a whole new level.
One definition of thrift (noun):
¨The quality of using money and other resources carefully and not wastefully.¨

Comment #5can see this being a very big timewasting transfer yet again ! (excuses at the ready for the start of the season)
we shouldnt try con teams out of money when he’s clearly worth more not 12mil but i would say 10mil is fair.
and i dont think we should do business with them also with there chairman as its just asking for bad publicity.
leave him and go for ravel/ince/genier/siem.

Comment #6He is in most cases right. I am a great believer in a bargain. But certain things do have a value. if rumours are correct and we bid 8.5 mill for the other french lad why can we not up cabella another 2mil. they could be tempted to sell at that. even the it would be great business. There is sensible with money and being plain tight. In sure mike could still put food on the table if he lost 8 million. Cabella WANT to come!!! f*ck Nicollin

Comment #7imo transfer stratagy should be have 3 players for say lw lined up :
1;cabella £8mil
2;ravel £6mil
3:ince 6mil (nufc valuation)
if 8mil fails for cabella move straight onto ravel then ince if all our valuations fail we obv underestimate them and need to boost 1-2-3 by an extra 1mil or so untill we get one of them.

Thats why Cabaye’s replacement should have been brought in before we let the world know we had just pocketed £20 million for Yohan.
Isn’t Ashley supposed to be smart ? .

Comment #13He,s looking after his Club,s interests?
He saw how we got Cabaye from Lille and then sold him on a few years later for 7x his transfer fee ! He does,nt trust and thinks we will do exactly the same with Cabella ?
He could be right too, but with Ashley as our owner there is absolutely nowt that surprises me anymore about our Transfer Dealings !
This bloke is hoping for a 15Mil bid from a club like Chelski or Liverfool or Manure or for that matter QPR or the Swans ?
Remy has two years left on his Contract, let him stay there and lets not waste any more time with Montpelier or with Ms Nicolin ?

Comment #14If we do get Cabella it will be in one of two ways :
1) No other offers are made for Cabella and they reluctantly accept our bid.
2) we get him in January.

Comment #15Monsieur Nicollin and Mr. Ashley = Statler & Wadorf, 2 canny old trouts griping at each other. So much noise in this deal it must have legs and I think a result is inevitable. There will be spitting into palms and slapping of hands together in no time.

if we were a bit fairer with them in france, it looks like were going to keep going back there, sell on clauses and and preseason friendly’s and not rob them on the buying price, they would fall over themselves to sell us there talent, there league has no money and they see what our revenues are it must make them sick with the offer we make

Comment #18The guy has a point. MYM’s career since leaving Montpellier has crashed and burned and should be a stark warning to others hoping to better themselves at NUFC. For every Cabaye there is a Ben Arfa, Obertan, Marveaux etc.

Comment #21Don’t blame him tbh as it’s an insulting bid and I’d be pissed off too
Just shows how we operate…. I understand putting a bid in below an asking price but to continually put in pathetic low bids just shows a lack of class and unwillingness to actually get a deal done!
It’s different when the shoes on the other foot though isn’t it fatty! Your puppet showed disgust at arsenals shitty offer as you did yourself but it’s perfectly fine for you and your yes men to do the same!
Fcukoff out of our club and take the snivelling con man with you!

That’s us fcuked then as we simply cannot compete with Everton and Southampton
Long-term Newcastle target Clement Grenier has received as many as three serious proposals from English clubs in the last couple of days.
The first is said to be from the Magpies themselves, however both Everton and Southampton have also approached the 23-year-old.
There is also interest from the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen having run the rule over the Frenchman, however the Germans have not registered any formal interest at this stage.
Lyon’s ongoing financial woes coupled with Grenier’s unhappiness at the departure of manager Remi Garde means it’s a near certainty that the set-piece specialist will be on the move this summer. However it could take a fee in the region of £10million to bring him to Tyneside and whether Ashley would be willing to pay that remains to be seen.

Can see this being another window wasting the whole period chasing one player whilst getting nowhere remotely near the asking price
All this happening and they seem oblivious to the fact Siem De Jong has basically issued a come and get me plea

Comment #29I did say we were taking the p*** with these bids!! For those that are unaware of what he’s saying let me break it down for you:
It’s 8m euros not pounds that he is talking about, is cabella worth 8m euros? No he’s worth more than 6.5m pound
He wants 16m euros not pounds that’s around £12m quid is he worth that? Probably yes
We offered half his asking price and then we wonder why nothing happens!! Brilliant statement by the lunatic who is the only one that tells us what we are really like in the transfer market

This is why our Friend in Montpelier was insulted by our offer? I can,t say i really blame him either!

Comment #34You lot may agree with it but I agree with Newcastle.
Cabella is not no where near worth $16m. That guy marsille paid that for is far better than him Thauvin such a quality player.
In all honesty newcastle could sign a better player than Cabella for $16m … And that’s the truth. You probaly would’nt even hada pay the $8m for Grenier and he has more quality than cabella.

Jun 12, 2014 at 8:52 PM
Comment #36Cabella is probably not worth €16mil (well he is to a club who wants to pay that. And if a big club wanted him, they’d not bat an eyelid at that kind of fee) however he is certainly worth more than €8mil.
The guy doesn’t like us, you’re not sure why Ed? How about imagining for one second the way that we must go about our business. In many parts of the world it’s actually very insulting to make such derisory offers. We ask the price, we are told the price, and instead of listening to or trying to understand the valuation, we take the pis* out of him! We go in at waaaay under a fair price (MA knows all about avoiding fair prices(wages)) and we expect them to accept!
Nothing wrong with going in low and negotiating, it makes sense, but to go in very very low, then not budge at all, repeatedly, that’s going to really annoy people.
They’ve got it right you know? They convince some of us morons that they are trying to buy players by putting in offers. BS. They know, either the club accept the offer and they get a bargain, or they reject and AP says “we’ve tried very hard to get these deals over the line”. A win-win for them, a loss for us.
How anyone can disagree with Nicollin is beyond me! They’re not wasting our time, WE ARE WASTING THEIR TIME
