If all this news coming in about Newcastle’s attempts to get our transfer targets to Tyneside are true – then things are not going very well for the Tyneside club this summer.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga – with Hertha Berlin manager Michael Preetz
Also at the table was Pierre’s mother Kerstin, who acts as her son’s agent
And there’s news today in the German publication Bild, that Newcastle have withdrawn from the race to sign 22 year-old Hertha Berlin striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who had a great season on loan at Hamburg in the Bundesliga last season.
It’s hard to believe the news in Bild, that the German U21 International, when he returns from his 9 day vacation – is ready to make a choice between signing a new deal at his Berlin club, or signing full time at Hamburg, but the news being reported is he will stay in Germany.
There has to be some question about how accurate this Bild report is, because the 22 year-old has been reported not only to want to play in England, but indications are that he is even keen to join Newcastle United.
This is what he said fairly recently:
“Since I started to play football, my dream has been to play in Premier League.”
His mother Kerstin acts as his agent, and it seems she was also keen to get her son playing the Premier League for next season – and of course he only had one year left on his contract at Hertha Berlin.
However there has reportedly been a secret four hour meeting between the player, his mother Kerstin and Hertha Berlin manager Michael Preetz, and the photo above was taken at the Hotel Maritim at the Dusseldorf Airport – and was supposed to be where the secret meeting took place.
It is thought that a new offer was given to the player from Hertha Berlin, to counter an offer that has already been made by the Hamburg club.
The news being reported in Germany today is that Newcastle have now lost interest in the striker, and if that’s the case, it may be related to the transfer fee on his head – and we know Newcastle don’t like spending big fees on any player these days.
And Mike Ashley doesn’t seem to like spending money in the transfer market – period, full stop – and we wish he would prove us wrong on that.
No wonder the transfer windows leave Newcastle fans feeling so frustrated – and now we have big money to spend – but we are still acting like a club that’s very poor and have to watch every penny – which is anything but the truth these days.
We have a hard job believing this news in Germany is accurate.
We hope its not accurate because the 22 year-old would be a great signing for us.
What do you think?

Comment #83Not many managers can play 5 at the back and win 5-1. Not to mention against the former world champions.
Van Gaal’s got nothing on Pardew mind ;).

Comment #88i decide to bet on who i think will be group winners and used England, Italy and Uruguay each on a different slip while the rest of the groups had the same team (no team from group C) . well i was still not going to get myself a win thanks to one of the teams i didn’t expect to let the cost me has cost me.
i had brazil spain france argentina germany and belgium. the main concern was france yet it’s spain who do it.
