Problems For Magpies With Striker Wage Demands

Newcastle have been after Bafe Gomis for well over a year and even last summer his wage demands were said to be high although there has been news widely reported that we have offered him £2M signing on fee and £70K/week.

Bafe Gomis – long term Newcastle striker target

But news in Sky Sports yesterday questioned that report, because they are reporting that his wage demands are again stretching Newcastle’s willingness to sign him – and talks are now said to be at an impasse. 🙁

So it’s hard to know what the truth is with such contrasting reports about Gomis – but if Bafe and his agent are really being too greedy, maybe Newcastle should walk away.

Newcastle could sign younger strikers this summer, and if all Bafe is thinking about is the money – then maybe Newcastle United is not the club for him..

Newcastle have been in talks with his new agent Willie McKay for some time now, and it seemed that Newcastle were in the driving seat for the striker, even though there were some big offers from Turkish clubs, as well as London clubs West Ham and QPR.

What the real situation is with Gomis right now is a very good question.

Comments welcome.

I’m detecting the news is that Ed may be cool on Bafe. Perhaps, perhaps not.

What article is next to fly off Ed’s copy desk? Will it be out before I’ve posted this or will I win the race? There is a lot of speculation and what the real situation is a very good question.

Perhaps Ed could do a quick article on wild speculation that mikey is planning to sell up in the next two weeks according to kevin keegan. As it has no basis in fact, turn it into a question and see if it gains traction. It’s a fact that people enjoy reading fiction.

We have enjoyed chicken curry for many years and it has been widely reported that my wife has stocked up on chicken curry ingredients. We like the idea of this but the cupboards don’t look any different to us.

That doesn’t mean my wife hasn’t got the ingredients. She may have hidden them and we know that my wife is good at hiding things. We would certainly like to see the cupboards bursting but we would not like my wife to pay too much for them.

What the real situation is with the chicken curry right now is a very good question but we hope the speculation is true as we do need to stock up on some tasty food. It is a promising sign that a wholesale chicken curry van was seen in our street today and we should know more next week.

It is being reported today that the wholesale chicken curry van was seen visiting a house in our street but we are not sure which house.

A neighbour reported seeing my wife carrying several large packages around about the time that the wholesale chicken curry van was in the street and we consider that to be a promising statement from the neighbour.

If the news is true, we welcome it as a positive move but of course we must be mindful of the price as we do not want to see a wholesale chicken curry company take advantage of us.

My wife is often in the driving seat when it comes to stocking up but we know she likes to keep her cards close to her chest. We should know more soon and it will be a good sign if we start to smell chicken curry ingredients.

A lot has been written about the best chicken curries and we consider my wife has done a good job in identifying the key ingredients. But we are still not clear that she has made a large bulk purchase of garam masala and we are only hoping that she has because we like the taste of this ingredient and it is likely to come within our very tight budget.

Disappointing news today is that the postman is reporting that the milkman has quashed rumours that a wholesale chicken curry van was seen in our street recently. We hope this is a misreading by the milkman because want the original rumours to be true and can only hope that they are.

But we may have to get used to the idea that chicken curry ingredients are simply not within our budget and we may have to look elsewhere, perhaps at the wild garlic market, at least for another season or two.

On a positive note, if it takes this long to close a deal for a freebie it probably won’t happen either!

…Sky Sports seem to think the German lad from Herta Berlin is coming. That’s usually a good sign 🙂

It’s difficult to get excited about any potential signings, given our track record in the transfer market of late.

We have been here so many times in the past only to find the player choosing another club or that we never bid in the first place.

My heart always wants to believe, but my head says be cautious until that photo comes out with the player holding or wearing the famous shirt.

Sky Sports News is always a good indicator, but they are not infallible, lets hope this happens because this German kid looks good, but the watchword for me is caution,

I don’t trust Sky Sports, they regularly peddle rumours which see money put on transfers at SkyBet. Then these supposedly nailed on transfers never happen. Wonderful little scam for them.

However, the sooner Gomis signs elsewhere the better, although I have little faith we will actually push through a better transfer or deal. Rock and hard place springs to mind.

I did get to have fun while watching Nigeria though, some bloke claimed to have played for Newcastle youth teams with Micah Richards. Bless him, he stuck to his guns in the face of adversity. Sadly for him, he decided to tell probably the only expat in Malawi that would know enough on Newcastle to disagree.

We parted ways with him still claiming to have played for Newcastle, despite me asking who he was coached by. He couldn’t remember, so I asked if it was Gabi Yorath, he replied yes that was his name. Still didn’t deter him. Wonderfully brass necked.

Ha, I know many who feel the same. The way they portray transfers as virtually done, money goes down, odds drop, transfer never happens. I’ve seen it happen on a number of occasions, particularly transfer deadline day.

Maybe it is just coincidence, but I’m sure there must be a conflict of interests somewhere in there.

Is this guy so good? If yes, just give him that money. Sounds like a diva though.

Deb 10 mil. Ed? No, given his France performances (which were similar before he joined us so this ‘much improved’ doesn’t hold Ed) he is worth at least the Cabs money. Who is not as effective as our current players. In fact, when the going gets tough I think he’ll be dropped. He does not dominate MFs, never did with us either.

Our transfers track record was non-existent in the last 2 windows. But before that, in fairness, we had arguably the best Jan in our history.

We had one good window in that January born out of desperation to stay in the premiership. If we had been mid table that January or looked safe do you think we would have spent as much or brought in as many as five players?

I don’t think we would have. That year Ashley panicked at the thought of losing the Premiership money. Now the greedy B’Stard has managed to claw even that money back by not spending in the last two windows.

At what point will make Ash make the connection between all our good players now and in the past leaving / wanting to leave and having a manager not fit for purpose.

With a competent manager we could have really built on the foundations that are being pulled from under our feet by a manager saying ” thank god we haven’t got Europe ” and ”I want British players.”

Ba, Cabaye goen, Ben Arfa, Debuchy next? This could have been a dream team with the right man in charge, being blown apart by a complete and utter moron.

How could even the most competent of managers deal with more players leaving than signing and no new players for eighteen months, more competent managers would go and work for a more competent owner.

Rumour has it that Gomis has held talks with Shanghai Shenhua (of Didier Drogba and Nicholas Anelka fame) over a possible move to China next month.

Don’t want to read too much into that but it came from a source on twitter with a reputed reputation (Chris Atkins, writes for ESPN and beinSPORTS).

Seems to signal that our interest/pursuit of Gomis is dead in the water as Shanghai will dangle a huge financial carrot under his nose that will topple whatever package we’ve offered or will offer depending on the reports you believe.

And with Lasogga rumoured to be joining Hamburg permanently it’s not looking too good for NUFC on the striker front.

We’ll probably end up re-signing Shola on deadline day. Mark my words.
