There’s a good report in the Journal today on 17 year-old Adam Armstrong – who is the latest potential whiz kid coming through the ranks at Newcastle, and the lad made his Newcastle United debut earlier this year shortly after turning 17 in February, and he already has four appearances to his name for the first team.
Adam Armstrong – up and coming youngster
But over the last seven years we have had young players with great potential at the club, who have just not made it at Newcastle for whatever reason, and one of those was Slovenian International Haris Vuckic, who will now be sold this summer.
Adam looked good when he was introduced into the first team, and he was one of England’s best players in their European U17 Championships success against Germany last month, although he missed the final through injury.
But we were still represented by promising young goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who saved one of the penalties in the winning shoot-out against Germany.
The news today is not too surprising – that Alan Pardew will give Adam Armstrong every chance to make the first-team squad during pre-season.
There are already a number of Championship clubs only too willing to take him on loan next season, and if he will not get games at Newcastle, he should be sent out on loan until at least January, so his progress can be fast-tracked.
Adam will need first team games to improve, but we are hoping he could already be good enough to make some substitute appearances for Newcastle next season.
Armstrong is in the squad for the long trip to New Zealand, and Newcastle really need to show they can bring good young players through to the first team.
Our record on this is not good, and in the last seven years since Mike Ashley bought the club, we haven’t had one youngster make it though the ranks to be s starter in the first team – and that’s not good.
Especially when Youth Development is supposed to be one of keystones of the Newcastle strategy of producing good players.
It’s very important that Newcastle closely manage Adam Armstrong’s development and progress in the coming season – and we’d be happy enough to see him sent out to a good Championship club for the full season.
What do you think?

Hart has not had the best of times of late so it would not harm by giving Forster a chance I suppose, but generally I feel Hart is probably the best of a bad bunch of keepers at present, it used to be a position where we were so strong but not anymore.

Aye mate think Rodney had a decent game, was just talking overall (although I’ve also always stated it’s impossible to judge Rooney under Woy who uses him as a Pardew utility special!!)
But by the time the Euros roll round Rooney will be, what, 30?
But yeah c’mon Woy, you’ve taken these lads, use them, don’t keep trying the same thing over and over it didn’t work in the friendlies and sure as hell didn’t work in the WC!

i hope the loss of our resident mackem doesnt hurt us… but i do feel we can get full points from portugal, with their player losses, and injuries…. germany will be tough, but three points v team ronaldo would mean we wont need a result vs germany…
one thing about the WC, its nice to watch soccer every day

I agree your estimate of money that should reasonably be available. I don’t think it means we should necessarily pay asking prices. Some other clubs and players’ agents just take the piss.
I don’t think its fair to boo pardew if he is getting results and doing well. However, I can’t see that happening because he’s clueless and so it’s probably academic.

Comment #87Who is saying that Aubameyang is only a reserve centre forward.
Whoever it is knows nowt about football.
Whoever it is -you need to change your game immediately -netball or ladies wrestling would be appropriate.

Appreciate you’re only the messenger and thanks for coming back with that and god knows we all want it to be true but how would KK of all people be privvy to the workings of Ashley’s inner circle?
Knowing our luck if Ash ever did sell it would be to crap buyers a million miles away from the Mansoors he could have sold to years back.
David james says Pardew is under pressure to deliver success. Under presuure from who? 17th place is just fine for Ash.

I think P.E.A scored something like 16 goals this season and is not been sold due to any kind of failure.
