According to the web-site – CaughtOffside – Arsenal are ready to go after Newcastle forward target Enner Valencia, who is the joint top scorer in the World Cup so far in Brazil, and has certainly looked very sharp in front of goal.
Enner Valencia – Arsenal have entered race for him?
There has been a lot of news this week that Newcastle United are in the lead to sign a striker, and certainly we need to sign at least two top strikers this summer, and the sooner the better.
And Arsenal need strikers too, and if anything the top London club this summer has been linked with more strikers than even Newcastle, including Loic Remy, who was on loan at Newcastle for last season, but wants to join a more ambitious club in the Champion League this summer.
The report suggests that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been tracking Valencia for more than a year now, and has had him watched playing for his Mexican club Pachuca, where he scored 18 goals in 23 games last season and was the top scorer in the Mexican League.
The news is that Wenger is ready to bid £15M for the Ecuadorian to get him to the Emirates Stadium – and that fee is about double what has been reported in the last few weeks.
Bur we don’t know how valid this report is, certainly the fee seems to be out of whack, and only in the last few days there have been reports that Arsenal want to bring top Italian striker Mario Balotelli to Arsenal from AC Milan.
Mario is a wonderful player, but he’s also a bit hard to handle, but if any manager can get the best out of Mario – it is Arsene Wenger, who knows how to treat the big personalities in football.
Wenger also has Costa Rican striker Joel Campbell at the club, and the 21 year-old has looked very sharp in this tournament, so Arsenal have a number of options to fill their striker requirements this summer.
We’d love to see Newcastle wrap up a deal for Valencia, but Newcastle recently have had trouble getting their targets to Tyneside, as players and agents are realizing the club has very little ambition under English Billionaire owner Mike Ashley.
