This Is Why Newcastle’s Goalkeeper Could Be Sold For £10M

Tim Krul has to be disappointed that he is not the starting goalkeeper for Holland in the World Cup, but it seems that the Newcastle goalkeeper is third choice behind Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen and Swansea City’s Michel Vorm.

Tim Krul – Tottenham interested

And news in the Daily Mail that Tottenham want to bring the Dutchman to White Hart Lane to replace French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who wants to play for a club in the Champions League, maybe even PSG.

Of course American goalkeeper Brad Friedel has just signed an extension at Tottenham, and he’s certainly still good enough to play in the Tottenham first team, but obviously at 43 years old he has only a year or two left in his career.

Tim had his best game for Newcastle ever last season at White Hart Lane, in our fantastic 1-0 win down there, and it’s not surprising Spurs would be impressed by the Dutch International goalkeeper’s form in that game – he was world-class through and through with some breathtaking saves.

And there was news late in the season that Tim may now be ready to leave Newcastle after 9 years at the club, and it will not have helped that he is only 3rd choice goalkeeper for Holland – but at least he made the squad.

Tottenham are a top six side and pushing for Champions League football,  so they are a bigger and more ambitious club than Newcastle are these days, and of course they have new Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino, who did wonders in his short time at Southampton.

Maybe it would take only £10M for Mike Ashley to be willing to sell Tim to Tottenham, but then we will have to bring in a replacement goalkeeper and maybe pay around £5M for that new goalkeeper – if that.

Let’s work that out  £10M-£5M=£5M left in the Newcastle coffers.

Yes – that would be a deal that Mike Ashley would be willing to sanction.

I do not jest.

What do you think?

You just know Cashley will want £15 mill and buy a replacement for £2.5 million.

I would not be surprised if there was a clause inserted when we sold Fraser that we can sign him back for 2.5 million !

Sell him, offer the 10 for Fraser. Get the local lad back at the club. Apologise for selling him, and offer him a competitive salary!

Sheikh, don’t talk tripe man – Remy’d only sign for us if he had no alternative than to work for a living!

As far as other strikers are concerned, I’m curious why it is we’re in a situation where we’re watching the biggest footballing show on earth along with billions of other folk, to assess targets?

They should have been wrapped up weeks ago offering enough
to get em in instead of pi$$Ing about. Of course that might involve paying their wages in the close season!

Oh and while we’re looking at potential signings and supposedly focusing on strikers, presumably Charnley’s tying up others.

After all, we need additional. midfielders and a CB – adding a RB and keeper to replace or add to Debuchy and Krul.

Maybe he could get the bus to Hexham and get Fraser Foster to sign on the dotted line?

Ah, a snag – that involves a strategy which we don’t apparently do.

    SNAFU!

I just don’t get the club at the present time…by doing no business last year it has meant we have gotten to this stage where we need double the normal number of signings for the year.

If only we had managed to get 2/3 lads in last year we could probably have gotten through with just 2 signings now.

    Sell him.

The club’s strategy is to bring them in young and cheap and then sell them at a profit.

Elliott is a good enough replacement. Upgrade Freddie Woodman who is already an England International and then recruit a youngster into the academy.

too true….but surely it just makes sense. I can’t imagine he lets SD run out of stock, of miss out on something they need.

I don’ really understand the club at this moment, even if the only goal is to just survive in the prem league (which surely is Ashley’s minimum goal for the TV money alone) they aren’t going about it properly.

I’d happily sell krul IF we had an adequate replacement in the club or lined up but we all know no one would be lined up don’t we and Elliot good enough? He’s mediocre at best and woodman is only under-17 and we all know how many players play for the English youth sides (100’s) and never make the grade so stating him as a second choice is a bit presumptuous imo

    Slank,
With advice like that you’d be very well placed in the circus that is our recruitment team, Rob Elliott takes a knock and is out for six weeks, in steps Woodman who unfortunately gets sent off, we’d be left with a sixteen year old keeper to breach one of the PLs worst defences, but never mind we’d have a nice 10M to look at but not touch.

I am glad some people are taking action, don’t live in the city myself so don’t really get involved with the protests, support the idea but too busy with work and the travel would be a bit much.

I just think all clubs go through a cycle of good and bad, this is bad but also not as bad as some clubs bad, if that makes sense….the thing which is the killer is the lack of passion around the club from the hierarchy, they take all the fun out of supporting the club.

I’ve heard Krul tow the party line, he’s been there since a kid, if he goes what’s holding the dressing room together, the captains heart’s not in it and most of the others are here as a stepping stone or aren’t good enough to be shifted.

This is the club’s strategy. Buy young and cheap and sell high.

You might not like it but that is what it is. Get used to it.

So Shay Given caused our relegation. Nothing to do with the 10 outfield players then?

I think the reason we didn’t buy last year is our wages
marveax obertan saylor now benny are all on first team wages
when Kinnear came in his first official words were he was going to get rid of the dead wood at the club he didn’t
I think the club are after 11 first teamers then rest made up of the high potential kids with big sell on value

i think we will see the bear minimum until those expensive fringe players are gone

Probably Caulker’s agents touting him about but if we could get him for £8m, he’d be a good buy with lots more potential for development.

    http://nothingbutnewcastle.com/2014/06/blogs/newcastle-offered-8m-cardiff-gem

However, his potential could well be Pardewed with the result that there’d be no profit when he’s sold on.

Following that reasoning, Ashley’s worked it out that there’s no point spending big money on anyone and that could explain his reluctance to spend significant (in his eyes) amounts!

And, Caulker’s ‘release’ figure of £8m, it could be like Suarez’s – a trigger for negotiation, a minimum offer only and not a pre-fixed fee.

Life’s great when you’re a Toon supporter – just think how boring it would be if we were fans of Citeh, Arsenal, Southampton, Hull, Charlton, Doncaster et al. Supporting clubs with ambition must be soo soo boring!

The club is no longer a viable option for the fans. I can see more and more fans leaving if there is not considerable transfer action this summer. My only hope on this is the hierarchy are keeping their cards close to their chests until 1st July comes round when most players contracts run to.

I dont expect many to leave as Ashley is a tough negotiator and if Krul is to leave, it will be for a high fee. Remember, italian teams were recently put off by his high valuation on Santon so I can see him doing the same with Krul Sissoko Debuchy etc.

    Slank,
It does seem to be the policy and I haven’t got a problem with it if it’s done correctly, but it isn’t, and your idea of promoting a mediocre keeper to No1 with two academy keepers as back up is bordering on stupidity. And I was merely pointing out a fact, I wasn’t suggesting anything.

Those who think he is a good keeper -must have similar eroneous assessments of other players – or put it another way – they talk shite.
Elliott “groupies” need to change their game -immediately – to save the rest of us from their rubbish – a suitable new sport for you all – ladies wrestling -make the change now please.

    Rotonda,
It is seriously fishy how the wage bill has been slashed, the squad at a bare minimum and a net transfer soend of about -45M but the debt has remained a steady 130M, there was no responsibility from the owner in landing us with an extra 50M of that debt either.

Krul is okay between the posts but starts flapping when he needs to come out, his distribution is also poor. Whether this due to a bad shoulder or more likely, Pardew telling him to wait and kick long. All together I would not be disappointed to see him leave and Fraser return, but it won’t happen unless Krul starts to sulk.

What makes Fraser not up to Spurs standard?

Did I say he wasn’t? But they will fetch a huge fee for Lloris and will most likely be able to afford damn near any keeper they fancy, neither Forster nor Krul are remotely close Lloris and would be hugely underwhelming replacements for the fans
