Mathieu Debuchy has stated while with the French squad in Brazil recently that he misses Champions League football, which is a rather subtle hint to the bigger clubs in Europe that he would like to leave Newcastle United this summer.
Mathieu Debuchy – Arsenal now interested
And news yesterday that Arsenal may go for the Newcastle right back as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, who signed on at Manchester City after running down his contract at Arsenal.
And Mathieu has become the regular right back for France since joining Newcastle eighteen months ago, and has ousted the former Arsenal full-back from the starting position for France.
Mathieu has also had a couple of good games for France in this World Cup so far this summer, and earlier this year there was reported interest from both Roma and PSG, which is the French club his best friend Yohan Cabaye joined in January fr around £20M.
The fee quoted in the reports is just £8M for Debuchy, which may be less than Mike Ashley’s evaluation of the player, but there could also be a part exchange deal in the works for 22 year-old Arsenal right back Carl Jenkinson, who Newcastle have presumably been interested in bringing to Tyneside this year.
We think Newcastle may want more than the £8M quoted, but if any club comes in with say a £12M bid for Debuchy he will probably leave the club this summer.
After all, it’s no secret Newcastle these days that Newcastle are a selling club under owner Mike Ashley, and we can no longer match the ambitions of our best players, and they tend to move on if they want to compete in competitions like the Champions League or they want to win any trophies in their careers.
They will not get that at Newcastle.
