There was news in Get French Football News yesterday that Marseilles midfielder Dimitri Payet is being offered to a number of Premier League clubs, and it’s not surprising that one of them is said to be Newcastle United.
Dimitri Payet – Newcastle interested in this French winger?
The 27-year-old is being offered so that the French club can recuperate some money that can be used as a transfer fund for new Argentine manager Marcelo Bielsa.
We suppose Bielsa has taken a look at the squad and identified the 27 year-old Payet as a player who can leave the club, and we always think it may be a little dicey if we go after players who have been offered to us, because the other club doesn’t want him.
Newcastle have been linked with this player before, and the winger previously played at Nantes, Saint Etienne and Lille, before moving to Marseilles last June.
While at Lille for two seasons from 2011 through 2013 he played 81 games and scored 26 goals with 7 assists.
The player was born in Saint-Pierre, Reunion, and he’s played 11 times for the France U21 side with four goals, and 7 times for the full French side, and he seems a decent enough player who turned 27 in March.
He is a very good passer of the ball and good at set pieces, and he would seem to be a reasonable acquisition for Newcastle, but we don’t know if Newcastle are interested in this player.
The report suggests the player is available for €8M, which is around £6.4M, and that’s (probably) a fee we can afford.
Last season he scored 7 goals in 26 appearances for Marseilles.
