There are news reports in France that Lyon manager Hubert Fournier wants to have talks in the next week with Newcastle targets Alexandre Lacazette and Clement Grenier and the news is he is anxious to keep the two top young players at the club, and that could be bad news for Newcastle United, with both players said to be top targets at the Tyneside club.
Hubert Fournier – two year deal at Lyon
This is what And Fournier has said in the French press:
“I’ll take the opportunity to have individual interviews with players.” “We’ll talk about the rules of the group and collective and individual goals.” “We’ll keep the forces that make up our work force.”
Grenier is still on vacation as is Lacazette, as both were in the provisional squad for France preparing for the World Cup, but Lyon are back in pre-season training.
23 year-old Grenier made the full 23 man French squad but was injured and had to be replaced, but Alexandre missed out to Loic Remy, who of course was on loan for a season at Newcastle and could be signing for Arsenal in the near future.
And those statements by new manager Fournier could also be a negotiating ploy by Lyon to drive up the price of the two players, if in fact they want to leave the French club this summer.
But it seems the chances of negotiating cheap deals with Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas for these two players could be difficult – and we all know that Mike Ashley wants good players brought into the club – but only wants to pay peanuts for them.
Maybe it’s just us, but reading the tea leaves right now, nothing looks too good in terms of getting some of our top targets to the club – and we need to move down the list if we cannot get the top targets in.
What do you think?

Comment #2Players in the French league will, with the possible exception of PSG, get paid more in England and pay less tax.
As has been seen with the French team that won yesterday 6 players play in the Premiership and therefore a transfer to us is not a barrier to an international career for them.
I would imagine that Lyon wouldn’t want to lose two of their top players but cash upfront would make them listen, certainly their accountant. I wonder if Alexandre Lacazette and Clement Grenier are having lots of interesting chats between themselves about whether the grass is greener elsewhere?

I think that if the club doesn’t get the players in their Plan A then they might turn to Plan B and if these are not available then I think they will not bother with anyone else.

Comment #6And still Ashley leaks the names of supposed targets and still, he’s trying to sell season tickets.
Does he not realise that fans aren’t stupid and won’t fall for the blatant insult to their intelligence.
Now if he were to actually recruit decent players and show some ambition, tickets would be snapped up!

Comment #7If their current manager doesn’t want to hang onto them, well what the hell are we bidding for them for?
I should hope he does.
By the way, when are the FA going to sort out clubs like Chelski and ManCity buying everyone they see and loaning them to where they can do the parent club no harm or to play for other clubs against their rivals. It is blatant nonsense.
