Newcastle Close To Deal For Defender

The Mirror is reporting that Newcastle United are close to signing 18 year-old Rennes defender Sega Coulibaly, who we reported on yesterday as one of the  top young French defenders.

Sega Coulibaly -5bd0b

Sega Coulibaly – signing for Newcastle?

Newcastle have been watching this player for a while now, and the Mirror report suggests he could be bought for £4M, which for Newcastle is a lot of money for an 18 year-old.

But this lad is a top player who has already played for the Rennes first team and is one of France’s top young players.

And while he would initially join up with the Development squad, his is precocious for his age, that we are sure Alan Pardew is hoping he could immediately challenge for a center-back spot in the first team.

The lad has only just turned 18 last month, and he was born in Bamako in Mali, and has been at Rennes since the summer of 2005.

Sega has played for France at U16, U17 and U18 levels.

If he’s as good as he’s made out to be, then £4M for a player of his caliber could turn out to be a really low price to pay in the longer term.

We hope the Mirror report is accurate.

Comments welcome.

We certainly have a truckload of young centre backs….

Good, Streete, Satka and we are being linked with more

I am uneasy with centre backs who are under 6tf tall.

    Typical Newcastle.

Suddenly when it comes some good news, it just been more worse than it was. SDJ will probably be a nice signing, and I like that one. But it’s a bigger lose to loose Siss and Debuchy. Fantastic players for us – maybe our best players.

Why on Earth did we sell JT? He should be given a try!

Uchida, Aurier or Alderwield would be good options at right back.

Now we just have Ryan Taylor, Santon and MYM that can play right back. In my opinion Santon is far better at the left.

Got to be honest this is pretty good business. Double our money for a 29 year old when Santon can come in at right back and Haidara at left. Also half price for 25 year old SDJ. Pretty shrewd you have to admit.

“I think our fans are going to enjoy the way he plays and I cannot wait to start Pardewing (working with) him.”

A ”false number 9” for a false manager.

In fairness though I do feel a bit happier now if SDJ can stay fit and with Ash telling Pardew he wants more attacking football this season.

As Lilo says we now have 3 ”elite” coaches out of only 16 in the world, so maybe things looking up a bit there too.

Now if we can get some of Cabella, Grenier, Lacazarette (wrong spelling,) P.E.A, Sega Courbilaly, Virgil and possibly the Mexican keeper if Krul leaves (may not now with SDJ coming in ) then things look distinctly rosier, despite still being handicapped with Pardew.

I wonder if Pardew has been given the same remit from Ash as Allardyce now has at West ham, ie give us good football to watch or else…!

Welcome to Newcastle Siem De Jong. You are very welcome.
I hope you do well and I hope you come to love us as much as we grow to love you. Because this city needs heroes right now.
There’s really nothing else that could be said, or should be said, when a new guest arrives at our door to represent this city.
We can cross the Debuchy bridge when we come to it.

    Kris,
Tavernier is a poor mans Danny Simpson. We are lucky to have got £500,000 for him. Just cause he looks a decent right back in League 1 doesn’t mean he should be given a chance here. I wish him well at Wigan but I certainly don’t lament his departure.

    Blofal,
You also forgot Good. Seems odd to bring in another development squad centre half when Pardew has waxed lyrical about the young centre halves we already have. Only recently he was saying Satka is like a young Colo. We have far more pressing needs than a development squad centre half.

Granted size can be an issue for a CB but usually you have a big lump getting everything in the air with a smaller, quicker, more ball playing guy next to him sweeping up around him.

If we suddenly have Colo, M’Biwa, Virgil, Courbilaly, Satka and Streete, we can say thanks very much Willo and Saylor.

The rate Ed’s churning out his blogs’ll have him needing another holiday!

It’ll be a disgrace if Ashley knee-jerks and takes £12m for Debuchy – unless we get young Campbell as a makeweight from Arsenal

Ashley’s a sort whose judgement is clouded by money, like a rabbit caught in headlights.

A world class defender, Debuchy’s excelled in the World Cup and surely must be worth £20m at least.

Do Arsenal jump to agree fees for their top players? Do they hell.

If Ashley’s so hell bent on emulating the Arsenal model, then by all means he should do so – but do it exactly as they do!

I just prefer them a bit taller especially with Colo and MYM being not to great in the air, it doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t take him, it is just a preference which I have, nothing more than that.

Just hope the guy has had an epiphany and gives us the fans what we want to see. It’s going to be an even bigger stretch for fat Sham though at west Ham to start playing football.

out of the 8 CB’s you mentioned 3 are kids and of the ones you would keep only van Dijk has any height about him and he is unproven at this level, bit risky, if any were to go then it would have to be Colo as we have better of his type already.

If we do sell Debuchy who IMO has been our best player I would buck the 10 mil straight in for that Ivory Coast rb and try hijack him on arsenal he is 22 years old and looks solid also very good at getting forward and putting the ball in the box.

It looks like we are going from French to Orange SDJ and Colback 🙂

If Debuchy is sold, then we have to bring Serge Aurier as his replacement, can be even better than Debuchy, 6 goals and 7 assist last season, not bad for a RB…and Virgilo Van Dijk too…these two for Debuchys money and I will be happy…of cours we have to bring striker and winger maybe two…one target man Lassoga type and one forward/winger Lacazette type and one winger Cabella…and we will be ready, that will be fair business…
    out Debuchy,Shola,Amalfitano,Gosling,Tavernier
    in: Pérez,Colback,S.De Jong,Van Dijk,Aurier,Lacazette,Cabella,Lasogga(Slimani)

    aurier…van dijk…mbiwa…santon
    ……….sissoko……….tiote………..
    HBA…….S.De Jong…….Cabella
    ……………Lacazette……………….
    second team

    dummet..willo…colo…haidara
    …….anita……….colback……….
    pérez…..abeid……..gouffy.
    …………lasogga……………..
there is S.Taylor,R.Taylor,Bigirimana,Jonas,Marveaux,Obertan,Sa.Ameobi….we have too much players 😀 Jonas, Obertan can go 🙂

    Morning Chaps,

Good news on Siem De Jong, glad he’s signed but hopefully he will remain fit.

Debuchy – I said before he went to the WC and before Arsenal were linked with him that he was going there, as the WC started the rumors began. That very person told me this morning that Arsenal had agreed a fee with Debuchy on the eve of the WC and were going to announce it when the french get knocked out as WE have agreed with them. I trust the lad that told me but could be a load of BOLLOCKS!!
