Magpies Paid £7.5M For De Jong – More Players Coming In

The Journal is reporting today that Newcastle United paid about £7.5M for Siem de Jong from Ajax, and given the player had only one year left on his contract at the Dutch giants, that seems like a high transfer fee to us.

Remy Cabella – get him in after World Cup participation

The local paper is also reporting that Newcastle now want to bring (at least) four more players in this summer, and those players  still include winger Remy Cabella of Montpellier and striker Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon.

We will need to wait until after France’s involvement in the World Cup comes to an end before we can go after Remy Cabella again, but that could happen this Saturday night if France lose to Germany in the quarter-finals.

And reports in France are that we are negotiating right now for striker Lacazette with Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas, so maybe Newcastle could spring a surprise before pre-season training starts, with the announcement we have signed him.

That would be terrific.

Clement Grenier is another excellent target player for us, and according to the Journal our targets are in Holland, France and Spain.

Wonder if that means we have given up on British players – who tend to be very expensive in both transfer fees and wages as manager Alan Pardew pointed out recently.

It wouldn’t surprise us if we have given up on British players like Ross McCormack, Danny Ings and Carl Jenkinson.

What do you think?

    £7.5m…I seriously doubt it.

They may want us to believe they spent that though

That’s my biggest worry,if they don’t bring in more players It’ll be like a mile stone around his neck.Your right also about his position. He isn’t a CF,he plays just behind the CF & he doe’s arrive in & around the box.He shoots from distance with accuracy & power….you’ll see soon enough & can judge for yourself. …he’s more Dennis Bergkamp than Kevin Nolan haa haa

Okay, okay, comparing him with Kevin Nolan may do the bloke a disservice – although if he provides the leadership, goals and competitive spirit that Nolan brought to the team I think we could all agree it is an improvement!

On this article, well I guess as always I will believe it when I see it. We have heard too many stories of players in discussions and signings imminent in the last few years that all stories are taken with a bucket of salt.

1 out and out striker, one wide/central attacker, a winger and a creative presence in midfield please. That would be the rumoured 4 more I expect. Still feel a commanding first team centre back (Willo/Saylor upgrade) is required. I think Mbiwa and Colo for the other slot are okay for another year, when hopefully the kids start to push Colo out.

It was reported a few months ago that he could leave Ajax this summer for 7m so I doubt It’ll be very far away from that figure.I can’t recall if that was pounds or euros.

Welkom to SJP Siem.. wish you the very best.

If we cannot sell Obertan, are we compelled to name him in our 25-man squad and eat up a place?

    Nut meg,
I hope he does, but like I say, a lot could depend on what else comes in. If very little arrives then the pressure is on him immediately. Looking forward to seeing how he gets on, and I am hopeful he does well.

    TianToon,
No, we aren’t compelled to name him in the squad, but we will as it is more sensible than not. Last season we only named a squad of 24, that included Ryan Taylor who was unlikely to kick a ball. The same will happen this time I guess, as you don’t have to name under 21’s in the squad, they are just free to play. So far we have lost Gosling, Cabaye, Ameobi and Remy from the 24 and just brought in Colback and SDJ. I think most of the youth who would have been under 21 and aren’t won’t be here.

Would be nice if de Jong can create something for Cisse and get him scoring again.

Who gives a shit what we paid for him. We have got a good player in at the Toon.

As for not buying British Player’s when Man U pay over 30 million for a teenager you know the UK market is up the creek.

This time last year this site was predicting relegation.

Newcastle keep things under the radar and if we can get a few more across the line then my away trips just might be happier.

Yes.doesn’t matter how much we paid for him, bcoz we got good player.besides,he can play in different positions w/h will be an advantage. if we get both cabella & lacazatte,we will be in a dream Land.if we land only Grenier,we will be in a dream land too.I don’t care if debuchy goes, jenkinson will replace him.now we are 70% strong, add one of those French golden boys and we will be flying.

Jordan Mutch might be worth a look with a £5m buy-out clause. He’s only 22 and can score and create. He’s tall and works hard and they are 2 things Pardew values.

I can’t believe he let Tavernier go. He’s 3 times the player Dummet is and always has been. Only difference is Dummet is bigger and runs about more and defends more. I think Tavernier could have broke into the team next year if Debuchy goes.

    What difference does it make?
    – a player has 3 years contract left to run and we sign him for 7.5 million on a 6-year contract…or a player has one year left to run and we sign him for 7.5 million on a 6-year contract. The result for the buying club is identical. The fact that the selling club may lose their player in 12 months is irrelevant as long as there is more than one one club who needs to ensure it is they who signs him.
