There was news recently that a £12M deal had already been agreed between Arsenal and Newcastle United for Mathieu Debuchy to move to Arsenal, but that the deal would only be announced after France are finished with their World Cup endeavors – which could even be tomorrow night, when they play Germany in the quarter finals.
Mathieu Debuchy – in French colors
The latest news today is that Mathieu Debuchy has removed all references that he is a Newcastle United player from his Twitter page – and we suppose when he signs for Arsenal – which now seems to be almost certain – he will put in he’s an Arsenal player.
The French right-bank has said he was missing the Champions League since he’s been at Newcastle, and that was a thinly veiled open invitation for bigger clubs to come in for him during the World Cup, and Arsene Wenger saw him as an excellent replacement for fellow French International right back Bacary Sagna, who signed for Man City as a free agent recently.
There has also been news in the local Newcastle press that the club have resigned themselves to losing Mathieu, who has played very well for France in the World Cup, and if he does move he will have stayed one year less than his best pal Yohan Cabaye.
Yohan stayed 30 months at Newcastle before he moved ion to PSG, and Debuchy has only been at the club for 18 months, since we signed him for £6M from Lille.
The next top player to leave Newcastle could well be midfield powerhouse Moussa Sissoko, who is in the sights of Italian club Napoli.
But we suppose if these players don’t want to stay at Newcastle and play for us, they should move on.
Since he’s been at Newcastle Debuchy has become a much better player, and he has become France’s number one right-back edging out Bacary Sagna for the starting position for his country.
What do you think?

Comment #1Call the twatter police and have him arrested.
Can’t really blame the lad for wanting to leave to be honest.
He’ll be a lot better for Arsenal, when he gets some freedom to attack, in my opinion. Good move for him, and the gooooners.

Do we have any firm idea on Lacazette, Grenier or Cabella? Anyone heard rumors from outside of England? I’d love to get them all, although the recruitment efforts have to be focused first on strikers and get in the other positions as we can.

Comment #7Be a sad day when he does leave have loved his all action style for his properly gets stuck in will be good for Arsenal they need players like him with a bit of fight about them
So whos next then Sissoko or Krul !?!?
If we get De Jong , Richards , Cabella, Grenier and Lacazette then I could probably handle Debuchy and Cabaye going ……

Comment #8I’m struggling to care about this team and I love it. I’m not surprised players feel no loyalty to the badge, They could be sold at any moment to the highest bidder, why shouldn’t they make that move happen themselves?

Comment #16We are a joke club. Utter garbage. Selling your best players and replacing them with freebies and 3 million pound players can only end in one result. The fat man gets richer and he then dumps us in two seasons when Rangers are in the Premier League and we are in the poop. Geordies are really stupid if they go to support this regime. Shepherd was right about one thing.

Comment #20I see that the silver fox has managed to convince De Jong that we are going for Champions League football. The lad must be delusional or simple. Why does an Ajax player guaranteed Champions league football come to a club whose stated intent is to win nothing but merely survive in the league as cheaply as possible? The boy needs to see a psychiatrist. Maybe somebody told him porkies????

Why are contracts a waste of time? We are wanting to sell and Arsenal are wanting to buy what we are willing to sell, this has nothing to do with his contract, we could however say no thank you he has a long term contract so give us more money!!
Sazzer – check the facts around Kroos mate, he wants out of Munich and they want to keep him, he has had enough of Guardiola as he doesn’t believe in his brand of football. Kroos is a player that’s wanted by the worlds elite clubs.
Valbuena, I’d give it a miss, at 29 he’s not a better option than Cabella or Grennier.

Comment #23I don’t think anybody will be surprised by his move to a big club.
It’s a problem for mid table clubs like ourselves when bigger clubs come calling. Look at Southampton. They have lost three of their best players. It happens to even top clubs like Liverpool who are due to lose Saurez although I don’t think there will be too many tears shed from the Liverpool Board, especially the media office.
At least one good thing about the move is that it is near the beginning of the transfer window and not the end. My only worry is that it might put off French players coming to Newcastle. We shall see soon enough.

Comment #26Daryl Janmaat has looked decent for the Dutch, though in a wing-back role and not full back. Any Dutch league watchers, whats the factfile on this kid?
In an earlier comment I mentioned that AP was here unless we are really piss poor this season.I do not think he is a good manager. But our team was shaken by Cabaye’s departure, more than expected. Before that, we were hovering around 6th were we not?

Comment #27Janmaat isn’t he the Feynoord lad?
Napoli, Tottenham, Man Utd and…..Leicester are all linked with him. Safe to say he won’t be joining us, the lad is in the final year of his contract so I think that is why he have now been attached to him

Comment #29If true that’s the last of our truly excellent players gone. Regardless of numbers, this squad is getting weaker. Cabaye > De Jong. Remy > Perez. Debuchy > whoever. Ba > Cisse. Enrique > Santon. The Improvement is Gosling < Colback.

Is it that Richards is not a priority or a new right back not a priority?
A forward and a creative midfielder are priorities.

Comment #32If Percy has told de Jong that the sky is the limit at the Toon, I only hope that Mr Tubbs does not repeat his subterfuge as he did with KK – telling him they were bidding on players when they were not.
Stuff like that should never ever happen at a football club.

i get where you are coming from mate with the earlier comment but the wheels were coming off before Cabaye was sold, We had lost to Arsenal, only beat Stoke because they went down to 9 men (were losing 1-0) and then lost in the FA Cup, West Ham away was when Cabaye had shone against a WH team ravaged by injuries. The slide had already begun, and 1 player doesnt make a team. Shoody tactics and poor man management assisted in the decline!!

I looked him up a lot better clubs chasing him than us,
debuchy’s replacement has to Richards experienced not a bad goal threat and a good centre back,
and even better given a run in the team he could claim his England spot back easy given Johnson is pants and walker is a sicknote
when was the last time we had and England player on the pitch

Comment #38Ashley’s making a nice bit of money now from the club now with the loan amount still the same as it was 5 years ago and players being sold with a profit and being replace by cheaper ones, If the season tickets sell out he will be laughing this signing of De Jong is to get people to renew then nothing at all will be spent once they do.
