More Proof Deal Agreed – Debuchy To Sign For Arsenal

4:12 pm, Thursday, July 3rd, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 160 Comments

There was news recently that a £12M deal had already been agreed between Arsenal and Newcastle United for Mathieu Debuchy to move to Arsenal, but that the deal would only be announced after France are finished with their World Cup endeavors – which could even be tomorrow night, when they play Germany in the quarter finals.

Mathieu Debuchy France vs Finland+i6XnqrgjQ0tl

Mathieu Debuchy – in French colors

The latest news today is that Mathieu Debuchy has removed all references that he is a Newcastle United player from his Twitter page – and we suppose when he signs for Arsenal – which now seems to be almost certain – he will put in he’s an Arsenal player.

The French right-bank has said he was missing the Champions League since he’s been at Newcastle, and that was a thinly veiled open invitation for bigger clubs to come in for him during the World Cup, and Arsene Wenger saw him as an excellent replacement for fellow French International right back Bacary Sagna, who signed for Man City as a free agent recently.

There has also been news in the local Newcastle press that the club have resigned themselves to losing Mathieu, who has played very well for France in the World Cup, and if he does move he will have stayed one year less than his best pal Yohan Cabaye.

Yohan stayed 30 months at Newcastle before he moved ion to PSG, and Debuchy has only been at the club for 18 months, since we signed him for £6M from Lille.

The next top player to leave Newcastle could well be midfield powerhouse Moussa Sissoko, who is in the sights of Italian club Napoli.

But we suppose if these players don’t want to stay at Newcastle and play for us, they should move on.

Since he’s been at Newcastle Debuchy has become a much better player, and he has become France’s number one right-back edging out Bacary Sagna for the starting position for his country.

What do you think?

Call the twatter police and have him arrested.

Can’t really blame the lad for wanting to leave to be honest.
He’ll be a lot better for Arsenal, when he gets some freedom to attack, in my opinion. Good move for him, and the gooooners.

  • 2 Belfast // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:21 PM

Good profit if you can get the 12 million, not that I give a flying ferk.

We’ll probably not spend it anyway. lol

  • 3 MadisonToon // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:22 PM

    Proof? Really?

Do we have any firm idea on Lacazette, Grenier or Cabella? Anyone heard rumors from outside of England? I’d love to get them all, although the recruitment efforts have to be focused first on strikers and get in the other positions as we can.

That Cresswell lad from ipswich is having a medical at West Ham and they’ve apparently had a bid turned down of £5m for serge aurie

  • 5 Belfast // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:24 PM

He probably never even had it on his profile anyway.
Some little gobshite on twatter has probably made it up, as per usual.

  • 6 Belfast // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:24 PM

2 million for that kid Cresswell apparently.

    Good signing.

  • 7 santonthenewmaldini // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:26 PM

Be a sad day when he does leave have loved his all action style for his properly gets stuck in will be good for Arsenal they need players like him with a bit of fight about them

So whos next then Sissoko or Krul !?!?

If we get De Jong , Richards , Cabella, Grenier and Lacazette then I could probably handle Debuchy and Cabaye going ……

  • 8 Charlietoon // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:27 PM

I’m struggling to care about this team and I love it. I’m not surprised players feel no loyalty to the badge, They could be sold at any moment to the highest bidder, why shouldn’t they make that move happen themselves?

We are a joke club. Utter garbage. Selling your best players and replacing them with freebies and 3 million pound players can only end in one result. The fat man gets richer and he then dumps us in two seasons when Rangers are in the Premier League and we are in the poop. Geordies are really stupid if they go to support this regime. Shepherd was right about one thing.

I see that the silver fox has managed to convince De Jong that we are going for Champions League football. The lad must be delusional or simple. Why does an Ajax player guaranteed Champions league football come to a club whose stated intent is to win nothing but merely survive in the league as cheaply as possible? The boy needs to see a psychiatrist. Maybe somebody told him porkies????

  • 21 beermonkey // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:48 PM

sazzer who the hell is janmaat

  • 22 Our Toon // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:49 PM

Why are contracts a waste of time? We are wanting to sell and Arsenal are wanting to buy what we are willing to sell, this has nothing to do with his contract, we could however say no thank you he has a long term contract so give us more money!!

Sazzer – check the facts around Kroos mate, he wants out of Munich and they want to keep him, he has had enough of Guardiola as he doesn’t believe in his brand of football. Kroos is a player that’s wanted by the worlds elite clubs.

Valbuena, I’d give it a miss, at 29 he’s not a better option than Cabella or Grennier.

  • 23 Slank // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:51 PM

I don’t think anybody will be surprised by his move to a big club.

It’s a problem for mid table clubs like ourselves when bigger clubs come calling. Look at Southampton. They have lost three of their best players. It happens to even top clubs like Liverpool who are due to lose Saurez although I don’t think there will be too many tears shed from the Liverpool Board, especially the media office.

At least one good thing about the move is that it is near the beginning of the transfer window and not the end. My only worry is that it might put off French players coming to Newcastle. We shall see soon enough.

  • 24 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:52 PM

Then why don’t they sign Daryl Janmaat as a requirement for Debuchy going to Arsenal?

…that’s what a normal club would do!

  • 26 IITianToon // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:53 PM

Daryl Janmaat has looked decent for the Dutch, though in a wing-back role and not full back. Any Dutch league watchers, whats the factfile on this kid?

In an earlier comment I mentioned that AP was here unless we are really piss poor this season.I do not think he is a good manager. But our team was shaken by Cabaye’s departure, more than expected. Before that, we were hovering around 6th were we not?

  • 27 Our Toon // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:53 PM

Janmaat isn’t he the Feynoord lad?

Napoli, Tottenham, Man Utd and…..Leicester are all linked with him. Safe to say he won’t be joining us, the lad is in the final year of his contract so I think that is why he have now been attached to him

If true that’s the last of our truly excellent players gone. Regardless of numbers, this squad is getting weaker. Cabaye > De Jong. Remy > Perez. Debuchy > whoever. Ba > Cisse. Enrique > Santon. The Improvement is Gosling < Colback.

  • 30 Slank // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:57 PM

    18Sazzer @ 18

Is it that Richards is not a priority or a new right back not a priority?

A forward and a creative midfielder are priorities.

    WC RB for Netherlands.

  • 32 Mister Tuff // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:57 PM

If Percy has told de Jong that the sky is the limit at the Toon, I only hope that Mr Tubbs does not repeat his subterfuge as he did with KK – telling him they were bidding on players when they were not.
Stuff like that should never ever happen at a football club.

  • 33 Our Toon // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:58 PM

i get where you are coming from mate with the earlier comment but the wheels were coming off before Cabaye was sold, We had lost to Arsenal, only beat Stoke because they went down to 9 men (were losing 1-0) and then lost in the FA Cup, West Ham away was when Cabaye had shone against a WH team ravaged by injuries. The slide had already begun, and 1 player doesnt make a team. Shoody tactics and poor man management assisted in the decline!!

  • 34 BandB // Jul 3, 2014 at 4:59 PM

  • 35 beermonkey // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:01 PM

I looked him up a lot better clubs chasing him than us,

debuchy’s replacement has to Richards experienced not a bad goal threat and a good centre back,

and even better given a run in the team he could claim his England spot back easy given Johnson is pants and walker is a sicknote

when was the last time we had and England player on the pitch

  • 36 nut meg // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:03 PM

A quality striker should make a top 14 spot attainable

  • 38 ToonMatt // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:07 PM

Ashley’s making a nice bit of money now from the club now with the loan amount still the same as it was 5 years ago and players being sold with a profit and being replace by cheaper ones, If the season tickets sell out he will be laughing this signing of De Jong is to get people to renew then nothing at all will be spent once they do.

  • 39 BandB // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:10 PM

How much have we paid for De Jong?
Isn’t it stated club policy to present wages for the duration of the contract as if it were the same thing as a transfer fee?

I think Janmaat would be a better (and younger) option than Debuchy for sure. If we could get 12m for Debuchy and for certain get Janmaat for less, that’s a no brainer.

How come today is so beautiful with all the unconfirmed rumors?

  • 46 BandB // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:17 PM

Aye, and it will be totted up to make the profit on transfers look less blatant.

  • 47 Geremi's Prosthetic Leg Fund // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:19 PM

Fee touted is 7.5 mill. I am unsure as to whether this is pounds or euros. However as he was in the last year of his contract and had been making noises of leaving for quite some time, it would be safe to assume Ajax wouldn’t have held firm on a high fee despite him being captain.
On the other hand we could have picked him up for 5 mill and factored in his wages as 2.5 mill (I read somewhere that we factored in first year wages rather than full contract). That would equate to 48,000 a week which whilst seeming high, would be reasonable wages for a player of his standing. Again it’s unclear as to whether these are pounds or euros.

  • 48 IITianToon // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:19 PM

The more I think of it, getting >=12m for Debuchy would be a wonderful deal, provided we get a quality young replacement on board.
    Oh Wait..

  • 49 Our Toon // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:19 PM

    Sazzer @41

Kroos is moving to the European Champions, he’s not happy under Guardiola and even Bayern Munich have a certain limit on what they can offer the players, if it was all about money for Kroos he’d be joining Man Utd who were willing to pay him a reported £250k per week.

  • 50 IITianToon // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:20 PM

Does anybody know why certain transfer fees are revealed by clubs but most are ‘undisclosed’?

  • 51 Sazzer // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:22 PM

Not sure with either Richards or Jaanmat.
Richards can be either very good buy or very bad buy. He’s black and white.
Jaanmat feels grey, not unlike, perhaps, somewhat better than Simpson.

  • 52 JamesToon // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:22 PM

Not sure about Janmaat…i think he will go to southampton or man united maybe

As i said i think Richard would be good to play at CB and i think Santon needs a run of games at RB and i think we could get Yedlin on the cheap to give Santon some competition.

  • 53 JamesToon // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:23 PM

  • 54 BandB // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:24 PM

I don’t mind them doing this kind of creative accounting. But surely, by this method, they should also DEDUCT the money they would have paid on wages they have offloaded.
Why don’t they? Because they know pointing such things is regarded as carping.

  • 55 Our Toon // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:25 PM

    Jamestoon @52

I completely agree with you mate, think Richards all the way with Yedlin.

  • 56 Geremi's Prosthetic Leg Fund // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:25 PM

Judging by the way this club is run though, I’m inclined to believe it would be euros. That would be 6mill pounds, if we factor in the years wages again in pounds it would be 38,000 a week for the year. Sounds pretty realistic to me. Therefore 4 million pound transfer and 2 million wages (roughly).
Wouldn’t put it past this club to stick with 7.5 million when in actuality the transfer spend could be as low as 4 million.

  • 57 Our Toon // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:27 PM

Next they’ll be taking into account the amount of electricity the players are using and the amount is cost for travel etc and this will all be incorporated into future expenses for players

  • 59 Graeme // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:28 PM

IITianToon @50 – mainly so supporters, like us, dont know the actual fees paid by their club. That way the manager etc can pull any figure they like out of the hat. In previous years, even our “Free Transfers” were costing upwards of £5 million, allegedly.

It allows the club to claim they have spent huge amounts, when the reality is somewhat different. NUFC are past masters of subterfuge and deceipt!!!

  • 60 lochinvar // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:28 PM

Debuchy if he is sold for £12m has allowed us to buy De Jong for £7.5m and leave £4.5m bonus in the kitty. No doubt buying De Jong before selling Debuchy was designed to placate the fans and soften the blow. Sisokko and Krul have to stay as with a few more acquisitions we would appear to have the basis for a strong team, if we get the goal scorers we need ! Liverpool will be marginally less forceful without Chomperez and Gerrard possibly marginally less positive as a result. Spuds about the same, Mancs rebuilding so yep it could get interesting. Just need Arsenal to fall away ( I wish they would) , Chelsea to go AWOL and Man City to have 30 points deducted by FIFA . Top 4 – why not !

  • 61 JamesToon // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:28 PM

The initial transfer fee could be very low and we would pay a certain amount of money in monthly instalments

  • 62 Slank // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:29 PM

    34BandB @ 34

You are quite right in your observation.

We are not a big club. Big clubs repeatedly win trophies. We haven’t won a domestic trophy for 60 years. We are a mid table club that has a large stadium with large crowds partly because it is a one club city. We probably have some of the best, possibly the best, away fans in the Premiership.

The rest of the country don’t see us as sitting at the top table of football.

I started attending games in the mid 60s and I am fortunate enough to have been at every home game in the Fairs Cup run and so have seen the highs of which there have been few and the lows of which there have been many.

  • 63 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:29 PM

  • 64 BandB // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:29 PM

I’m not saying I’m not pleased to have him.
    I am.
But people hear £7.5m and then have high hopes of us signing players with a £10 to £15m pound price tag, when that doesn’t seem to be the market we are shopping in.

  • 65 Geremi's Prosthetic Leg Fund // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:30 PM

I wouldn’t be shocked if Dispatches uncovered a NUFC Enron type scandle of accounting, but the exact opposite whereby we’ve hidden money for years.
We all know whatever can be done to look like spending the money we have, without actually spending it, will be.

  • 66 lesh // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:31 PM

I made that very point when factoring new signings’ wages into the cost – if one replaces a leaver, then surely the leaver’s wages should be deducted at least.

It’s a daft way of accounting transfer fees anyway, the numbers mean nothing in isolation!

I agree, last year contracts/players out of form/ release clause etc. You name it, NUFC will try it. I very much doubt we will spend over 10 million pounds on a transfer fee alone. We haven’t for 6 years so why would again? Lacazette is seemingly our ‘star’ signing this summer and he still be under 10 mill pounds without wages factored in, I’m sure.

  • 70 Sazzer // Jul 3, 2014 at 5:35 PM

I started in 1983 (apart from been tagged along once or twice as a kid) against strugglers Chelsea in Division Two (I wonder what became of them?)
I think they nearly went down that season.
But THAT crowd had been brought up on tales of cup glories, which at that time weren’t in the far distant past (and when the Cup meant more than the league).
And I lived to see us compete well with the best in Europe and narrowly miss out on a league title.

Janmaat is also at the 2014 World Cup preparing for a quarter-final of his own with the Netherlands, and despite rumoured interest from Manchester United, there are a number of reports emerging from his motherland that Newcastle are close to sealing a deal with Feyenoord for the right-back.

The Dutch head-coach, Louis van Gaal, who is set to take over at Manchester United when the World Cup ends has naturally been linked with a large amount of his WC squad so it is no surprise that some sections of the media claimed that Janmaat was high up his shopping list.

According to Alfredo Pedulla – a verified Twitter sports journalist, he has released an ‘exclusive’ claiming that Newcastle have stolen a march on Napoli in the pursuit of Janmaat and that a deal has been agreed. This accompanies a number of other releases from some of the Dutch media.

It wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Debuchy leave, and it’s hardly mind-boggling that we have been strongly linked with a natural right-back among all the commotion on Twitter and within the news outlets (Sky Sports, BBC).

Are you saying Janmaat won’t sign for us then beermonkey? Surely you have faith in the mighty NoNuts? Onwards and upwards to top four! Huzzah!!!

  • 90 Slank // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:02 PM

    BandB @ 71

I’m generally very positive about the club I suppose because I have seen and been through some of the very worst times watching truly crap players in a truly crap stadium.

From where I am now things look good. It’s all a matter of perspective.

I don’t dislike Ashley. He is by no means the worst owner / chairman we have had. He has brought stability in some areas. I don’t dislike Pardew but recognise his limitations. As an unsuccessful club not at the top table we cannot really expect a top European manager although it has been argued that spending big to get a truly great manager may bring more benefits and possible trophies than spending on players.

I’m looking forward to getting a new young exciting French forward and a really skilful French midfield play maker. Anyone extra is a bonus. I hope Sissoko doesn’t leave and want Ben Arfa to stay as I think he has a role to play. That’s it.

  • 91 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:04 PM

We’re definitely putting together the type of squad that will compete for top four in the Championship soon enough! Don’t despair mates Mike has big plans for us. Right then, I’m packing for an attack on the castle!

  • 92 Mister Tuff // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:07 PM

Checked out an Oldham Fans blog earlier on. Seemed that most were happy with the deal with Mr Tubbs – ie the sponsorship for the club. Most thought the new stadium name was rubbish but felt their ground would still be Boundary Park to them. As far as the club shop went -the only proviso was that it did not sell Man U or City strips -haha Tubbs will do that old trick he did at the Toon -sell anything then excuse it by saying it was an administrative fault. Still cannot fathom what Tubbs is up to here – flog the Toon and concentrate on Oldham -God knows.

no I am saying that I am saying we will sell debuchy for 12mill shift santon to the right and ryan taylor as cover

I am sure this will appeal to no nuts

  • 94 Shaker Shakrah // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:12 PM

I am not even sad to see him leave
i am happy we get rid of him
because he didn’t came to Newcastle
because he love the club or to help the team
he came only because of Cabaye .

I hope this money will fund Cabella’s deal 😀

Lasogga has officially signed for Hamburg. #NUFC can cross him off the list.

  • 96 Sazzer // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:21 PM

Still waiting on the confirmation of Tadic to Southampton. Not that we have been linked with him recently.

  • 97 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:21 PM

I think you are right beermonkey. Such clever planning on Ashley’s part. He’s going to make a fortune this year from the TV money, and sale of our best players. 19 M for Cabaye, 12 M for Debuchy. The profits are out of this world. And we’re definitely going to win our mini-league of the bottom 3 teams! The future is golden with NoNuts!

  • 98 Average_Contents // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:22 PM

There should be enough money sloshing around the club already….we shouldn’t have to sell to fund new signings! We all know we will though!

  • 99 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:23 PM

So that is why Wenger was in Brazil then ? .

He should be done for tapping up our player the d1ckhead .

  • 100 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:28 PM

Mike’s profit sits at somewhere around 60M once the Debuchy deal is done. Minus a paltry fee for SdJ of course. If he keeps us in the Prem he will haul in another huge TV windfall again next year. He will get his loan back in 3 seasons then it’s all gravy for him. Amazing! And some still want to put money in his pocket by buying kit and attending games. Ah well. Slow learners I suppose. 🙁

  • 101 Belfast // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:28 PM

  • 104 beermonkey // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:36 PM

he is got to reinvest some of the monies raised by the club it cant all go behind the sofa left to be forgotten until found by no nuts

we still have to get in some strikers
but with the options we have at the club replacing debuchy will not be a priority

I don’t think sissoko will go this year maybe next

  • 110 Sazzer // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:50 PM

The Latest in Twittersphere is that we might have had bids accepted for Janmaat and Lacazette and that Debuchy cleaned up his twitter account up from anything Newcastle and are on his way to Arsenal, also Lasogga have signed for Hamburg.

    So no news only speculation.

  • 111 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:52 PM

I agree, there will be some money spent by Mike this summer beermonkey. We absolutely must get a very decent striker or we will go down and Mike won’t allow that. But the profit will still be huge for him. I see 2 more incoming. Either 2 strikers or a striker and another winger/forward. That will make 5 incoming. Benny is in limbo. Don’t know what will happen but with Pards still around I think he will try hard to leave us.

  • 112 Sazzer // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:53 PM

  • 114 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:54 PM

Somewhere around 3-6 M pounds for SdJ was the fee according to That sounds about right at the high end. If he’s a success Mike will sell him on for 15-20 M within 2 years. That’s how it will continue to work. Greed is the only motivator for NoNuts.

  • 115 Markaccus // Jul 3, 2014 at 6:56 PM

Sod selling Santon, you complete maniac. We’ll use Anita at right back with Raylor as back up.

  • 119 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:03 PM

ManU will make a strong comeback with Van Gall Markaccus mate. And Man City will be up there fighting for first place. I see Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U as top for in my crystal ball. Mike will continue to fondle his budgies and have us in 15th place, which he will accept happily.

  • 120 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:06 PM

Man Utd will be mid-table again next season. They need to sign 8 players. We only need 6.

  • 121 Sazzer // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:08 PM

Maybe bit early since I realised not so many teams have officially signed anybody but:
    Based on the list:
    2.Man U

    Bottom half probably
    1.Hull City
    2.West Ham

Things will change quickly. I included us in the running for top 10 rather than bottom 10. Otherwise we would probably top bottom half as things stands.

  • 122 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:09 PM

But we’re not going to get 6 Ketsy mate. At least not 6 good enough to reach top 8 even. We will continue to be bollocks under NoNuts. He will sell anyone decent and bring in cheaper substitutes as with SdJ for Cabaye. NoNuts doesn’t care about the football. He only cares about money. Isn’t that clear yet?

  • 123 Sazzer // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:10 PM

Maybe Swans deserve spot for Gomis over Sunderland.

    Premature rankings anyway.

  • 124 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:12 PM

Not a selling club they said ? .

Imagine if we managed to keep hold of our players we could have had:

    —Sissoko—————De Jong—————–Remy—

Forster, Willo, Santon, Anita, HBA, Gouffran, Cisse

Wonder how that team would have done ? .

  • 125 beermonkey // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:13 PM

on the strikers front were not going to get a remy in some1 that can create a goal out of nothing
given the way we played all last season will pardew be able to get the team to work the box to create for any new strikers and cisse

he stumbled across a way of doing it when cisse arrived whilst just trying to accommodate cisse but even after ba left and remy came in saying he now has the personnel he never went back and tried it

its a big opportunity for pards and a big task I am not convinced but then most aint

  • 126 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:16 PM

Big trouble coming without a very good striking coming in then beermonkey. The first to go will be Pards if we don’t do well in the first 10 games. The schedule is very decent after the Man City opener so Pards will be under immediate pressure. If we play anywhere similar to the last half of last season Pards will have to go so some other sucker can come in and take the heat sad to say. 🙁

  • 127 Average_Contents // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:26 PM

so I am betting he will be here at xmas and take it from there

  • 129 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:27 PM

Should read very good striker. Fell sorry for Tiote and his huge giveaway during the WC game. Will he recover his confidence? Our defense will continue to be very porous if Santon plays at RB. He isn’t a defender.

  • 130 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:30 PM

Would like to see Richards brought in for £5m

  • 131 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:31 PM

If Ashley thinks we can get by without a top striker with the team we have now he is even madder than I thought. This can’t work without several big signings and at least 30M spent which we can well afford now. If not Pards will not be able to save us. He is an average manager at best. This is a horribly weak side as it stands even with Colback and SdJ. We are in for a nightmare without big additions. The games against the German sides in the pre-season will show that to be the case. Get ready for a lot of moaning on here.

  • 132 beermonkey // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:35 PM

tiote will be fine give him the armband he grows with it

I don’t see colo as a starter but I think we all know he will start I don’t wish him an injury but maybe extended holiday in Argentina lol

first game will be interesting to see who starts for us

  • 133 beermonkey // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:37 PM

sdj do you think he can be the man to help get cisse firing

  • 134 tequilamag // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:41 PM

G2 there is nothing to suggest there will not be more signings. I realise moaning is the default setting for this blog but howay man enjoy the new faces. People were saying our transfer bsiness was done before the window even opened.

  • 135 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:43 PM

At least Santon clears his lines. Willo can’t even kick the ball properly.

  • 136 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:43 PM

We should be going after South American players, not just Dutch or French.

  • 137 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:46 PM

The new signings are just so-so. We absolutely must get a top striker. No beermonkey, I’m afraid I don’t see Cisse ever recovering form at this point and certainly Pardew isn’t going to make it happen. We are in the soup now unless the big man at the top suddenly grows a football brain out of the side of his heed.

  • 138 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:50 PM

Tequila mate, be prepared to drink more tequila next season unless the mighty NoNuts comes to his senses. This bollocks with Oldham is a perfect example. He will turn them into an SD outlet and be happy to hear them moan and protest as well.

  • 139 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:50 PM

What is the point of undermining Siem De Jong? I disagree that Siem is only a so-so signing. He has loads of EC experience on his shoulder already and he’s doing great for Ajax. Colback.. I don’t know much about him but he’s not that bad.

  • 140 Shaker Shakrah // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:51 PM

these reports make me laugh so much
since when we sell one of our top layers to
    some italian clubs ? ( Napoli )
if Debuchy is 29 and it’s good to sell him now
well Sissoko is still 24 and he still have many
years to come with Newcastle , I can”t see him leaving .

  • 141 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:53 PM

He is decent Pizzacato mate but we’ll see how he manages the Prem. But it’s not nearly enough as you all know. Without a strike force and with a horrible defensive record we have huge problems that we’re not addressing. Colo will injure his back again in the winter as usual and we have no depth at CB. Willo only functions well with good cover and is over 30 now as well. What on earth are we doing with this squad? Not nearly enough and Ash doesn’t splash the cash.

  • 142 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:56 PM

Get ready to eat lots of pizza and drink some decent brew (if you can find it in the States). Hunker down and watch the reality train hit Pards and NoNuts right between the eyes next season.

  • 143 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 7:59 PM

No offence pizza mate but I find American beer to be swill with almost no alcohol content. They must drink it so they can spend lots of time in the bog. Strange country getting stranger all the time. At war with their own poor people. They pay waitresses $2.13 an hour in some states. So much to be proud of USA. Shove that bollocks where the sun don’t shine. The revolution is coming! Huzzah!

  • 144 Mike's Iron Curtain // Jul 3, 2014 at 8:00 PM

Well, now MA has conquered the French sports retail market through signing Frenchies, seems like the next target area subject to his empires lebensraum is going to be Holland.

Same strategy, buy rising Dutch stars that are for whatever reason discounted or comparatively cheap, then keep them here for a few seasons to help raise the profile of Sports Direct in Holland, watch his share price rise and then shift on the cheap acquisitions for a tidy profit, assuming they have performed fairly well – wins both ways. The ones that have supposedly not flourished to be discarded for a minimal loss ie Marveaux, Obertan etc.

Maintaining midtable mediocrity is the only footballing objective, anything else is a bonus.

That’s the model folks! Next up, Belgium!

  • 145 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 8:01 PM

  • 149 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 8:12 PM

If we get LDJ back he can be the nanny for SdJ when he has kids. Brilliant! For now he can keep SdJ happy and continue to try and kick a ball through a wet paper bag. We need a striker who can actually shoot. If LdJ had Benny’s shot I would love to see him join us again. But unfortunately he doesn’t. My daughter shoots harder than he does. Shearer must weep when he sees that man kick a ball.

  • 150 jazzyp // Jul 3, 2014 at 8:12 PM

  • 151 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 8:24 PM

Sorry to disappoint jazzy mate. I just think we have to be cautious about Dutch signings. Look at LDJ. I think SdJ will be better than that but he isn’t at Cabaye’s level in general ability. I have concerns about Anita being too small as well. We need a stronger defence, midfield and attack. Other than that we are in great shape! Huzzah!

  • 152 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 8:26 PM

Not to worry jazzy mate. I’ll come to my senses when we win the league next season! 🙂 I continue to hope we make some good signings and that SdJ does well. Although if he does do well he will be sold off for big profit.

  • 153 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2014 at 8:31 PM

Is anyone continuing to keep track of how much wor Mike has made on player sales in the last 7 years? It must be enormous by now. Let’s see: Carroll 35M, Cabaye 19M, Bassong 6M?, Jose 6M?, Milner was it 8M or more? That’s just a few of the big sales and it adds up to 68M and I think I have underestimated that total. What have we spent on signings over the same period? I would think possibly 40M? That’s what I call tidy profit. I’ll try to get more exact numbers but you get the idea.

Completely not bothered about him going.
He’s a great player, probably our best now Cabaye and Remy are gone BUT he blatantly doesn’t want to be here and we don’t utilise his abilities.
As someone else said I’d be open to reverting to more solid full backs and putting less defensive responsibility on the attackers.
