Newcastle Complete Important Signing

8:07 am, Saturday, July 5th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 15 Comments

Newcastle did quite well with injuries during the first part of last season, but then during the second half we seemed to be as bad as ever,  and suffered over 50 different injuries in total last season.

Dave Billows – while at Everton

Newcastle announced yesterday that they had signed Dave Billows as the new Head of Fitness, presumably replacing  Faye Downey.

Some of the Newcastle players started to return to pre-season training yesterday, and they met the former Everton fitness expert.

Dave has been given the job of bringing down the injury rate this season, and making the Newcastle players even fitter than they were last season.

The full first team squad – minus players who have been playing in the World Cup or the World Cup build-up – will return on Monday to the Benton Training grounds.

Dave was at Everton for 13 years and he had this to say on his appointment at Newcastle United:

“I’m delighted to be here at Newcastle. It is a great Club with a very good set-up.” “As soon as the opportunity arose to join Newcastle it was a very easy decision to make.”

“I can bring a lot of experience to the role, having worked at Premier League level for a long time, and also have a wide range of knowledge across a host of elite-level sports.”

“There are some fantastic players here (really?),  and my role will be to make sure they are at the peak of their fitness, injury-free and available for selection by the manager throughout the season.”

Newcastle can measure the number of injuries and also the fitness levels, and therefore will be able to tell if Dave can have a positive impact on both those important areas next season.

It’s good to have Dave Billows at Newcastle, and he’s an important non-player signing for us.

Comments welcome.

We really are struggling to get any news here

I am interested to see where Pardew got that tan of his, and that unbuttoned shirt looks great on him.

Whether or not she was any good at least Faye was good to look at.

I can see the fitness levels dropping now as well as other appendages.

There was big hopes for Faye Downey when she joined and look what happened there, I don’t suppose our coaches will take the slightest bit notice of him and carry on regarless

Good to see us attempting to bolster the backroom staff, Will be a good addition along with the new coach

Still haven’t seen any confirmation on Debuchy anywhere, where are people getting the low fee from?

  • 6 firebug666 // Jul 5, 2014 at 8:31 AM

The low fee was first mentioned in the French press, now all the press have picked it up.

I just thinking that the timing and signing of SDJ was to soften the blow of Debuchy leaving, even though we all knew it would happen.

At the moment the club don’t seem to have a future other than to make money, we are desperately in need of quality players to replace those out and add depth to the squad, yet I still feel we will only see maybe one or two come in.

At present we do not have enough players of sufficient quality to compete and stay in the premiership.

SDJ may be our only signing this time around !

More are leaving than coming! Have a feeling we are really in the shit !

    Don’t be ridiculous Newexpat.
    Cheese us
    Such negativity :(

    NEWEXPATMAGPIE

I have to agree mate. The targets we are being linked with all seem to be unrealistic in that bigger clubs with ambition are also in for them.

We know that Newcastle will not get into a bidding war with anyone. We know that if a team like Man U are mentions along side one of our targets Newcastle have already pulled out.

If we do get anymore signings this window it will be from what is left at the end.

We will simply not bid higher that the value we place on a player.

  • 10 Slank // Jul 5, 2014 at 8:46 AM

    firebug666 @ 9

It is sensible to pull out. Ask any foreign player

‘do you want to play for possibly the biggest and most successful club in the world or Newcastle who haven’t a trophy in over 50 years?’

I know what I would say.

Add one more out as it looks like Shane ferguson is on his way to Ipswich. Never would have made the grade but still another one on his merry way.
Personally I don’t believe we will let so many players leave without replacing. If Mashley was that intent on sending us down to the championship then why would he have bothered spending 9+ mill as of yet.
The Lacazette story is simply the agent after more money and fees for his own back burner. The only way we will lose out to him is if a bigger club come in for him which goes for all players we are linked with.
Its stupid season again……25 mill for Lovren—–Aint worth it………10 mill for Mcormack hahaha ya having a laugh

  • 12 Lew Davies // Jul 5, 2014 at 8:51 AM

We have to have the clearout yous were all screaming out for before we can bring in fresh blood.
We will start the season with a full strength squad.
I don’t expect it to be the big names we are constantly being linked with tho.
We will aim for mid table and just about survive no problems.
Some of you guys are expecting far too much.
You should all know the score by now.
Sell to buy and minimal investment to remain in the EPL.
Fat Bastid will spend what needs to be spent. No more than that.
No point in getting all wound up and angry about it.
Yous cant do anything about it anyway.
Suck it up and enjoy the show.

    And the big question is:

    Was Faye Downey Pardewed?

  • 14 GeordieDan // Jul 5, 2014 at 10:08 AM

Has this reported fee of £7.9million for Debuchy been verified anywhere credible?

If we’ve sold him for less than the £12million that was quoted earlier then Charnley really has no clue what he’s doing at all!

    Can’t be right surely?

For me the heart of any football team is the midfield.if we strengthened our MF,goals will come easily.I have a feeling we’ll sign another player next week, esp one of those french Golden boys.if we do that, hopping the new player will be a mfder or a striker, we are 80% ready for the new season.
    Other decent players to consider:
    Yann m’villa-RKZ
    Gueida fofana-lyon
    Guilaveughi-AM
    Craig noone-cardf
    Andros Townsend-tot
    Dimitri payet-Mars
    Gregory sertic-bordx
    Jordy clasie-fey
    Alex vidal-almeria
    Biabiani-parma
    Adil Taraabt-qpr
    Bojan kirkic-roma/ajax
    Kevin Mendez
