Newcastle Don’t Get Full Value For Debuchy

6:26 am, Saturday, July 5th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 12 Comments

France were beaten 1-0 by Germany last night in their quarter-final tie, and left the World Cup in a whimper,  and we expect the transfer of Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal to be announced soon, and it seems it will not be for the £12M reports have suggested owner Mike Ashley wanted.

Mathieu Debuchy – signing for Arsenal

The news being reported in L’Equipe is that it is an initial £8M rising to £10M based on how he does – in terms of appearances.

That fee has been agreed between Arsenal and Newcastle, and the Gunners will be able to offer Mathieu a decent wage, so after compensation is agreed, the next step would be his medical and then the deal will be completed.

And when the current Newcastle player removed the information that he played for Newcastle United from his Twitter account recently,  that was more proof he would be leaving the Magpies. this summer.

We paid just less than £6M for the right-back from Lille a short 18 months ago, and in that time he has established himself as France’s starting right-back and has become one of the best right backs in the Premier League – presumably too good for Newcastle to keep at the club, with our limited ambitions these days under Ashley.

Joe Kinnear was sacked in February as Director of Football and one of the (many) reasons suggested for his firing was that we didn’t get full value from PSG for Cabaye, with the fee being  around £20M.

But a number of Newcastle fans will think £8M for Debuchy is a give away – although he does turn 29 later this month.

Newcastle have been linked with 24 year-old Dutch International right-back Daryl Janmaat, who plays for Feyenoord as a replacement for Debuchy, and he is currently with the Dutch squad at the World Cup, and has played three full games in the tournament so far.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Sorry I don’t get this, why are we no trying to do some swop plus cash deals for players or straight swops. I will tell you why Mike wants to show the world how big his @#$%# are in business. I’m sure there are some players at Arsenal that could help out Newcastle United. Wasn’t we after Thomas Vermaelen a few weeks back for central defence? Why not a swop deal for him maybe some cash coming our way?

Swap is the word you’re reaching for and no we won’t be paying the kind of wages Arsenal do so I doubt any of their players would even consider a move here.

    £ 8M is garbage offer !!!
go and watch what Chelsea will pay to sign Filipe Luis
    around € 20M and he is 28 !!
is he better than Debuchy ? No !
I’d rather keep him instead of taking this garbage
    amount of money .

    Pathetic Mr. Charnley !!

What difference does it make? If we got 100m for him Ashley still wouldn’t spend it

So Charnley-Chummly-Warner is apparently ok with selling Debuchy under his value. Well that sort of ineptitude cost JFK his job. If the deal includes Jenkinson in return or if we have already signed Jamaat then perhaps I misjudge the situation but this is NUFC so I doubt it but would like to be proved wrong. I thought I’d seen a statement that we were going to announce the signing of a another major signing yesterday – the silence is deafening.

Arsenal only offered 10 mil for Cabaye to rock our boat 11 months ago, so why would they offer 12million for Debuchy? We are fast becoming the ‘wee club in the north’ Ferguson sneered at. And there’s no fanfare farewell for Faye Downey who it seemed had been doing a decent job. I expect she had too much ‘cajones’ for SJP.

We will be laughed at even more if 52,000 turn up for home games, Ashley has took us all for mugs and we are letting him!

Another player sold too cheaply!! Forster for £2m;Cabaye for c £19m and now Debuchy for £8-10m – Ashley likes to buy cheaply but he sells too cheaply (like SD) – false economy.

it doest make sense. you can say whatever you want about ashley, but you dont consistently low ball the market and then get less value for your players. He is not the type of guy to leave money on the table. Debs value is as high as could be post WC. This is the only positive thing im confident ashely can do for NUFC. The transfer thing is a joke when the fees are not published. Why wouldnt arsenal pump the rumor out there that they paid a fraction of what they did, and vice versa. I dont see the point in stressing over a made up number.
