Joel Campbell has shown in the World Cup this summer that he is a more than a decent striker for Costa Rica, and it looks like Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may loan out the striker next season again – to give him more first team experience.
Joel Campbell – 22 year-old Costa Rica and Arsenal striker
And the news is that Everton and Newcastle are two English clubs interested in taking the striker on loan – Newcastle because we have to somehow replace the three strikers who have left this summer, and Everton because they are trying to replace their striker Lukaka, who was on from Chelsea last season.
Campbell’s agent is Roger Lacey and he admitted that some Italian clubs were interested in taking the 22 year-old striker:
“Are Italian teams interested? Yes,” “There are several clubs who are in the top band that have made inquiries about the boy.” “We are talking about a great player here, who has captured everyone’s attention.”
Campbell’s future will be decided at the end of the World Cup by Arsenal, but it does seem that he will be sent out on loan again, and maybe to a Premier League club this time, so that manager Arsene Wenger can judge how well he does in the top league in England.
Campbell spent last season on loan at Olympiakos, and before that he spent a season on loan at Lorient and then at Real Betis, and it’s not surprising Newcastle would be interested in taking Joel on loan for next season.
West Ham and Southampton are two other English clubs said to be interested in taking the Coast Rica striker.
In his career so far Campbell has played 111 first team games for various clubs, and has scored 17 goals and has 18 assists.
He would be a great loan signing for us for next season.
