Newcastle United are ready to make a move for Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha, according to a report in the Sunday People today from former Chronicle reporter Alan Oliver, and even though the 21 year-old failed miserably in the Premier League last season the fee is said to be around £7M.
Wilfried Zaha – Newcastle make move for 21 year-old
But that’s still less than half of what the Red Devils paid for him 18 months ago, when they signed him from Crystal Palace.
Newcastle have been long term admirers of the former Crystal Palace winger, and were interested in signing him two years ago, with manager Alan Pardew said to still rate the young player highly.
It’s hardly surprising that new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has told thew club to sell the winger, who has 13 caps at the U21 level and two full caps for England.
Wilfried made only 4 appearances for the Manchester club last season, and while on loan at Cardiff City this year, he played 11 times with no goals and was mainly used as a substitute for the relegated club.
The youngster was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and in four seasons at Crystal Palace he played 143 games and scored 18 goals.
We’ll have to wait and see if Mike Ashley is willing to pay out £7M for a 21 year-old who has hardly been successful over the past season in the big time.
