Newcastle Closing In On Major Signing

There is good news today from the Italian press that we hope is accurate, and it’s that Newcastle have already agreed a deal to bring Dutch International right-back Daryl Janmaat to the club.

Daryl Janmaat

Newcastle had also been linked with Ajax right-back Ricardo van Rhijn, and it will be good to have a second Dutchman on Tyneside this summer – if we can get Daryl signed soon.

And that will almost ensure that goalkeeper Tim Krul – at the moment a hero in Holland because of his penalty shoot-out performance against Costa Rica – will stay at the club.

Napoli and Manchester United were also interested in acquiring the Dutchman, but it seems Lee Charnley has moved in quickly to agree a deal with Feyenoord – and that’s good work by the Managing Director.

That’s always assuming the reports in Italy are accurate.

Daryl turns 25 in a couple of weeks time, so he is at a good age, and he has been at Feyenoord since 2012 and before that was at Heerenveen for four seasons.

He played for Holland in all the three group games in Brazil, and he looks a good player, and it will be a step up for the 19 times capped Dutch International.

Our Dutch contingent on Tyneside is also growing and he will join Siem de Jong, Tim Krul and Vurnon Anita, who are already at the club.

Daryl  has played 74 times with 5 goals for Feyenoord and played 100 times with 8 goals for Heerenveen.

This is very good news for Newcastle, and signing such a good player quickly is also a good move by the club to keep the fans happy, with Mathieu Debuchy almost certain to sign on at Arsenal in the next couple of weeks.

Now we need two or three good strikers brought in.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Hopefully this will happen. Would imagine Debuchy will be gone in the next few days. Good to see replacments being sorted “early”.

Still wouldn’t mind see Richards, but doubt that would happen…

To be fair, our defence was one of the worst in the League and the attack wasn’t much better to be honest.

Any player coming in, able improve either of the weakest areas, has to be good news. A solid CB, TWO strikers, each capable of hitting 15 – 20+ goals a season are of vital importance – even moreso now the club has started selling our back-ups / cover, to a bare minimum.

It is time the players already sold are replaced, to allow time for those players being sold in the next few weeks, to also be replaced!!

I know, it has never happened since FCB took the club over, but hey, there is always a first time for everything lol.

I would not say it is good work by Charnley.

Truth be told, if Napoli or Man Utd wanted him, he would be signing for them… Charnley has not beaten Man Utd and Napoli to this signature.

We are losing our first choice right back for about 11 million, we have no replacements and will spend about half of that money on a replacement. Hardly a major coup or “good work” by Charnley. Credit where it is due, and none where it isn’t.

Well apparently he played in a game against Japan in the world cup, quite impressive since the rest of the dutch side didn’t 😀

So basically selling Debuchy for 12 and getting De Jong and Janmaat for the same price ?!? Could be a good deal

I think we should insist on getting Campbell on loan as part of the Debuchy deal I would also take Luuk De Jong and Zaha on loan for a season with permanent deals lined up if they impress

Abeid and Bigi to play more as cover for Siem De Jong and Tiote !

Also would get Lacazette and Cabella signed up and that would be us job done for getting top 10 again

It was in the friendly back in November.

Netherlands did play Japan in the group stages in 2010, but Janmaat wasn’t in the squad then.

    a major signing??

a top recognised centre back or a top striker would be a major signing
no offence to the right back but he is just a signing

us fans will love daryle but its wierd as its not pards type of player !!!

he’s very good all round but he tends to go forward whenever he gets the oppertunity to support the attack ^^ yes a rb supporting attackers !

good tackle good crosser (for a change) good vision. tbh the only negative i can see with him is that he’s untested !..oh and i havent seen him do many challenges in the air so no idea if he’s any good or not there.

Hav,nt heard of him,and i doubt he,ll be as good as the guy he,s replacing, thats IF it is true.
We had one of the worst defences in the league last season so the signing of the dutchman instead of Debuchy will make us weaker in defence.
A previous blogger suggested that Napoli and Man U must,nt of been interested in Janmaat otherwise he,d of gone to either of them instead, and i agree. In fact if any other premier lge club went in for him ,we would have no chance.
Janmaat must,nt be up to much imho. Time will tell.

Hang on Ed your Maths are slightly out of whack – you are forgetting about replacing the players we are losing then adding to the squad. We have lost Cabaye so de Jong is a replacement, if Debuchy, Sissoko, Ben Arfur, Krull, and the other First team players are included in the leavers then we will be talking 8 players to come in, just to stand still, and then we need to strengthen the defence and forward line. I would love to think we will have better quality coming in but I think we have as much chance of finding rocking horse shit !

Didn’t the club say they weren’t going after players from the world cup squads that they already had their targets pre world cup when linked with Ener Valencia.

I think Lee and pards confused who to bring as our strikers 4 the new season,
    After losing Gomis,Lassoga and probably
Lacazatte & it’s important now that we secure cabella as we can use him upfront with cisse.
I think Graham Carr & co. haven’t seen this
    Strikers as well :
    Luis Muriel
    Jordan Ayew
    Jonathan Biabiani
    Kevin Mendez
    Alvaro vadillo
    Kevin volland
    Musa sow
    Ryan Bertrand
    Craig noone
