Newcastle have brought in Siem de Jong, Jack Colback and Ayoze Perez so far in this transfer window, and if Italian press reports are to be believed today we have agreed a deal to sign Daryl Janmaat of Fetenoord, although Manchester United are reported to be still bidding for the player, and new manager Louis van Gaal has to be a big draw for the current Dutch right back.
Carlos Bacca – would be great signing for Newcastle
But if Newcastle do sign Janmaat it will be another very good signing, and so far we have done quite well in the transfer market.
But – we all knew that the major priority this summer was to bring in some strikers since we lost Shola Ameobi, Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong.
And even though Alan Pardew hinted that Siem is a striker, he prefers the withdrawn striker role, and by his own admission he’s not really an out-and-out striker, but a very good player nonetheless.
It’s just a little worrying that pre-season has already started and we haven’t signed one new striker yet.
And not only that but we have missed out on Bafe Gomis, who signed for Swansea, Pierre Michel Lasogga who preferred to join Hamburg, and if news reports are to be believed – Alexandre Lacazette will only leave Lyon for a club playing in the Champions League.
So we seem to have missed out already on some of our top striker targets, but there are still some others we could go after including Alfred Finnbogason of Heerenveen, Danny Ings of Burnley and Ross McCormack of Leeds – and we have also been linked with Colombian striker Carlos Bacca of Sevilla and Cagliari forward Victor Ibarbo, who was also in the Colombian squad and looked very decent in Brazil.
And just on the off-chance that Lee Charnley is doing something he shouldn’t be doing and reading this thing – he should be far too busy – are there any other strikers we need to be going after?
Let Lee know in the comments. 😀
The players we have brought in so far are good, but we must get at least two top strikers through the door and soon too – and if we can do that then things at Newcastle United may even be looking up.
That would be a welcome change.
What do you think?

Comment #81If the wages are true or close from that website someone posted then I’m not surprised they don’t want Jonas playing to activate his supposed extra year lol and imagine fatty’s face when HBA not even in the matchday squad never mind the bench….now that would be priceless 😀

Comment #82I am quite pleased the way the transfer window has gone and am not expecting any more top signings. We area top 14 side as things now stand. We know Ashley has no ambition other than staying in the league and only pockets money. Why should he shell out anymore dosh? He will buy in Jan if we are in trouble but I think we will be 14th come May. Not too bad at all considering we spend nowt. Correction: he pockets tens of millions every season. No chance he will sell this little gold mine.

Quite interesting to see a player do something like that. Actively speaking ouy about wage demands, and puyting it “out there” that he wants to get his career back on track instead of stagnating further at citeh. I think, whether we get a dutch RB or not, we should still sign him. After all he is a tidy CB on his day too, and would potentially be more reliable than saylor.

Comment #84How many RB’s are we likely to need? Janmaat, van Rhijn, Richards? We’ll be lucky to sign any of them with Pards and Ashley in charge. How about a decent manager before it’s too late Mike? And why don’t you sell the club while you’re at it? Actually sell the club and let someone with a brain hire the manager.

Comment #85Why would Arsenal offer us Joel Campbell for Debuchy? The stock of Joel Campbell has been raising throughout the World Cup and he wouldn’t stop growing… unless Wenger is stupid.

Comment #86Good to see fifa have decided not to charge the lad who injured neymar! Common sense prevails for once. I wonder if it’ll prevail when they make a decision regarding silva’s yellow card….now that is ridiculous and just smacks of desperation to me!
On a lighter note manure’s new kit is vile lmfao

Comment #87I would also take Richards as as potential CB too since we never know if/when Colo wanna go back to Argentina, when Saylor is leaving, etc.

Comment #91A fit Richards would be an ideal foil alongside colo or willo. They are the slower, tougher CBs, whereas Richards would be the more athletic one.

Agreed regarding Richards even if we do get another RB in he’d be worth a punt imo but as we know raylor, Anita and Santon can cover their unfortunately but I’d see him as more a staylor upgrade tbh as he’s a decent CB and RB

Comment #99Good to see you on here Ibiza mate. Hoe do you feel the club are progressing this summer? Or is progressing the right word? Is there a word for what we seem to be doing? How about the phrase screwing the pooch?

Comment #102At least hull’s chairman is willing to sanction moves and back his manager
Even though the hull fans have protested against him they still said he’s been good for them they only had an issue with the namechange!

Comment #105G2…One must make an appearance occasionally 🙂
Summer business has been okay I guess, still a long way to go before I can comment properly.
To be completely honest, I’m not sure how much I care at the minute. It’s going to take a lot more than a couple of signings to change the mood of the toon faithful.
Some ambition or intent is in order.

Comment #110Would definitely agree with you there Ibiza mate. Sad to watch our club fall apart like this. The defence is too old and slow, and no attack either. All we seem to be interested in is more and more midfielders. Does Ash have a thing for midfielders as he does for budgies? I certainly hope not for their sakes. Shudder.

Comment #115G2…It is a worry, where will the goals come from?
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you can’t score goals and leak as many goals as our defense does that we’ll be in trouble.
I’m sure they have it under control though…ha

Comment #116Tbh I don’t think his dad’s helped whispering in his ear probably but I get the feeling it’s bigged him up and made him think he’s better than he actually is!
Mark
I don’t know what to make of Santon at RB but I suppose it’d be worth a crack but as I’ve said the debs deal is only good if we get a replacement in and not an existing member of the squad to “fill the gaps” as has happened on a constant basis since fatty has been here.
Saving cash not spending it is his No1 priority over everything else

Comment #119Classically under lardness we are always one window behind in getting the bare minimum players we need. So we might sign a CB and anothe FW this time (we needed them in jan) but it will not be until next jan that we sign a Debs replacement.
