Newcastle have already been linked with two Dutch players to replace Mathieu Debuchy this summer, one is Feyenoord right back Daryl Janmaat, who is still with the Dutch squad in Brazil, and the other is Ajax right-back Ricardo van Rhijn.
Sergie Aurier – good replacement for Debuchy
But Ricardo picked up a torn hamstring injury in Ajax training on Thursday, and could be out for up to three months, so that could well put off any deal Newcastle were trying to make for the 23 year-old.
Newcastle have been linked this summer with 21 year-old Toulouse right-back Serge Aurier, who was also fancied by Arsenal, until Wenger went for the more experienced Mathieu Debuchy of Newcastle.
Aurier played quite well in the World Cup and was credited with two assists in the win over Japan, and he’s not only very good as an attacking right-back but he’s also sound defensively – and at only 21 – he can improve big time on Tyneside.
It would appear that Aurier would be an excellent replacement for Mathieu Debuchy, and he wouldn’t cost that much either.
Sergie signed for Toulouse from Lens back in 2012, and since then he has played 80 games for them with 8 goals and 12 assists – so you can see from those stats that he’s a very good attacking right-back – just what Newcastle need.
The 5’9″ full-back played 55 times for Lens, so at only 21 he has played 135 games in France and 10 times for the full Ivory Coast side.
He could be a great signing for us.
