It looks like local lad Paul Dummett will be sent out on loan in the coming season, so he can get some games under his belt – and Massadio Haidara will be pushing Davide Santon hard for the starting position at left back.
Massadio Haidara – big chance this coming season
We’ve always liked the look of Massadio when he’s played for Newcastle, and he’s a good young attacking left back with an excellent left foot, and he can cross a ball too – so we are still expecting big things from the player who is still only 21 – and maybe the French U21 International can make his breakthrough next season.
Given the situation at Newcastle right now it would be great to have some players like Massadio make that break through in the coming season.
Alan Pardew wants Dummett to gain more experience by playing first team games every week, and the news today in the local press is that his name has been circulated to Championship clubs, and we expect Paul to be picked up on loan by a decent club – maybe for the whole season.
It’s interesting also that Davide Santon is a natural right footed player and would seem to be better suited to the right back position, and there’s a chance that he could move over to the right, and Haidara could come in on the left for a run of games.
But Newcastle are linked with a number of (very) good right-backs tight now – and one of them will come in to replace Mathieu Debuchy – whose move to Arsenal should be confirmed before the end of this week.
And it also seems like Loic Remy will be joining Arsenal – maybe this week too.
In the second half of last season we had Davide, Paul and Massadio all vying for the left back position – and the solution to that is to give Paul Dummett some playing time at a Championship club, and that will help his development.
Sounds OK to us.
