Jack Colback could become a really good signing for Newcastle United, but the local lad knows he has to convince a number of Newcastle fans and manager Alan Pardew too, that he has the class to become a very good player at his home town club.
Jack Colback – buzzing to get started
Jack is an honest lad, and he has talked today to the Shields Gazette about his ambitions at Newcastle United.
“I think I’ve got a lot to improve on as a player.” “I can show the Newcastle fans that I’m good enough to be here.”
“Hopefully, I’ll have a good season and good career as a Newcastle player.” “I’ll be buzzing to get playing again,” “When you have so long out not playing, you crave it a bit, so it’ll be good.”
“I can’t wait to get back into it. There are some world-class players here.” “I’ve only done it once before where I went into a new group of players.”
“That was when I went to Ipswich on loan a long time ago – so meeting a new group is a new experience,” “I’ll be playing under a different manager. I can’t wait to get into it.”
Those are good words from Jack – and we are hoping the Killingworth-born player who supported Newcastle as a youngster, will make it big at the club.
Jack is a consistent player and a very good passer of the ball, and we’ll see if he can get a starting position in the Newcastle first team this coming season, but he knows that will be tough – but it’s also possible.
What do you think?

Comment #1I don’t think our defence is as bad as it seems. Last year we offered zero attacking threat so teams could relax and pile the pressure on. When we did get possession we had a bunch of players more famed for their hard work off the ball than their ability with the ball, and it would soon make it’s way back to the opposition. Also when we have no attacking threat, the team would give up hope after conceding. At 1-0 down and with a team of 9 defensive players and Remy (or Shola/ Cisse), I would give up too.

Comment #2ethiotoon on prev thread looks as though de jong has ended our interest in grenier – good he is overrated. if we sign lacazette we need a big striker to play alongside. looked lightweight without gomis alongside. apart from last season in a front 2 his record is the same as sholas. he is also smaller than armstrong and only 1inch bigger than adam cambell . no one else is interested for a reason. there are better buys .

Comment #3Well well well, what a coincidence – all this rumour and speculation about signings and an NUFC promotion to sell season tickets.

Of course it’s coincidence….. Innit?

Comment #4Mike, that sums it up nicely.
As a team, we did not function. There was no cohesion, no organisation, no sign of team spirit.
At times, we looked like 11 blokes who had just met at the local pub and decided to have a kick-about – which is a disgrace in any professional sport, let alone the Premier League. This has to be the biggest failure under P45DUE – he seems to be unable to provide the missing elements.

That is the most pathetic pandering I’ve ever come across. If anyone seriously signs up based on that then despair. It’s cringeworthy.

Comment #6Dude , Even with Cabaye sometimes we didn’t
managed to create and find solutions .
( Only worthless ball possession )
maybe because we need another
playmaker instead of Tiote
He is trying hard to be , but he is not to be honest
and maybe because we need a proper natural
left winger instead of Gouffran because we NEED crosses from that side .
I don’t agree with Colback ,there is a lot of weak spots
in the squad and the Starting 11
we still need
– the real Cabaye’s replacement
– proper natural left winger
– a goalscorer ( even if on loan )
& a replacement for Debuchy .

Janmaat kept giving the ball away last night, but he looked a good defender.

Comment #10they can put all the spin on they they want . the fact is we havnt signed anyone as yet , ok, 1 youth player and a squad player , we get this every year to get people to renew their tickets . If they want to hand out 100,s of ££££ to watch us get relagated , thats their look out. ive got more important things to do with may cash than give it to that dictator .

Comment #11Rotonda & Andy The Scientist
I see the HBA debate rages on…I side with Rotonda on this, HBA will win us more games than HE will lose us if utilised properly. Andy you make some valid points on HBA but please stop fuelling the rumours you here and stick to the facts on HBA, I read a statement from the player when he was dropped from the Arsenal game in which he wished his team all the best and he worded his statement on Instagram in a mature manner, not the same petulant young Frenchman who spat his dummy out on 3 high profile occasions previously. The manager lied by saying he was injured, just like the lies he’s divisive and players didn’t want him in the team. The player himself has apologised to people he has hurt over the years with what he calls his childish behaviour, as for Benzema’s dig at him recently…these 2 were best mates until they Benzema went behind HBA’s back with his GF at the time (Much like Terry & Bridge incident).
You may well be happy watching mediocre football when the likes of HBA are on the bench or even worse sitting at home but I would like to see attacking and adventurous football. This world cup has proved the likes of Pards are obsolete in their way of thinking. I mentioned Di Maria the other day as he had a stinker against the Swiss, 61% pass completion rate, he gave the ball away 55 times, had 11 shots, made 0 tackles, didn’t track back but his manager stuck by him….he scored with 2 mins left and won the game for his nation, I’m not comparing HBA and Di Maria as Di Maria is much better but they are game changers and have a similar ideology for how they want to play game.
A final note on HBA, he created the most chances for the amount of minutes he spent on the pitch last season in our entire squad, not bad for someone who holds onto the ball too long, doesn’t look to pass and loses the ball often…..makes you wonder exactly what the hell the rest are doing mate, any answers?
We can sign Cabella, Messi and Ronaldo but I won’t get excited by it because ultimately the head honcho who will be calling the shots is Percy and with Percy we have ZERO chance of entertainment!! I predict more unwanted records this season, more dire football, Plan A) contain and when that fails revert to hoofball, strange subs like bringing on FB’s when losing, a serious lack of attacking intent. Rant over

I take your point re- Ben Arfa but when Pardew stumbled on the 433 when Raylor got injured we were flying before he inexplicably ditched it to go back to our predictable 442 hoofball.
In that 433 system Benny looked great. As we don’t do ”pass and move” there are rarely options on to pass to which is when Benny is forced into taking too many people on in his 20 min cameos.
Seriously how can anyone call this rubbish

As for Colback, isn’t he just denying Abeid and Bigirimana opportunities while being nothing special whatsoever, other than a typical pardew cohort and foot soldier, ie gosling MK11.

Comment #15Bernard says in the Chronicle will Pardew adopt the new attacking mentality? The answer is that he already thinks he has his teams playing that way. When he watches Germany or Barca, he probably says to his wife ‘that’s how my teams play.’
Football – as shown in the World Cup – is getting more and more attacking. I fear if we leave Pardew to run down his 6 remaining years, then his 1990 tactics will be even more outdated than they have been the last few years. Then again, maybe they’ll come back into fashion if we wait long enough.

I would hope colback would be used as a back up for tiote, rather than with him. I think Bigi is a morr attacking playet than he was originally seen as. I havent seen enough of abied, but plenty of goals last season from mf, allbeit in greece, should see him used more offencively too. Like you, i will be iritated if colback keeps these two promissing players out of the squad.

I would say that Ben Arfa could win us a game, as he has shown a few times, but it would be very difficult to attach a defeat to him unless he dribbled past our defence and crashed a shot past Krul.
It’s arguable that defending is a collective activity whereas scoring goals is less so.
However, this detracts from the fact / rumour that he is a disruptive influence in the dressing room and if he can’t shape up the club should then ship him out.

I had high hopes for Bigi and Abeid who are been shunted out of the picture, while the least promising Dummet is now a first team squad fixture! Go figure!
On another tact I know we have now got SDJ after apparently tracking him for 5 years! I am pleased with that but these claims of multi bids for other players are so transparent when the STs aren’t exactly flying off the shelves!
If we get any of Cabella, Grenier, Lacazette, J Campbell Janmatt or Isla famously ”over the line” I’d be amazed and then of course we still have the problem of Pardew!
Plus we still have the deadwood of Saylor, Raylor, Obertan, Jonas, Sameobi.

Well, i suppose against the big teams we should use two anchors, but at home against teams we SHOULD beat, we should just use tiote and have a more positive player in there (i know, positive and pardew are not well matched) 🙁

Id probably hang on to sammy as a squad player, he isn’t brilliant, but i still think he might produce something worthwhile, but ship the rest deffo as they are obosolete, now. Jonas was a useful servant for a while, but he is finnished as a prem player now. Saylor is a liability, raylor probably wont be fit enough after such a long lay off, and as for squidward obertan, well, my mother taught me if a cant be polite about someone, i shouldn’t say anything 😀

Agree that Obertan and also Marveaux are dead wood.
We should keep Sammy as he is a good substitute who can run with the ball at defenders and often get past them.
I would like to wait and see about Raylor upon whether the injury has killed off his natural game or whether he has reinvented himself like Perch did.
I’m in two minds about Saylor because I don’t know enough about whether we have suitable replacements in the reserves. At some point Good, Satka and Street have to be assessed in a Premiership game. Curtis Good looks the frontrunner.

Comment #31Now I know Colback has been playing for that rabble down the road but they’re not that bad to say Newcastle’s players are world class. Before anyone mentions it I know we got beat twice of them last season, I’m trying to forget. Young Colback is talking bull.
Looking at the players who were training on the beach yesterday I think we would struggle to get out of the Championship.
There’s a lot of work to be done to get a decent Premier League squad.

The way Pardew was interviewed I got a distinct view that he wanted to play Colbeck full time. I’m surprised the journalist didn’t remind him that there can be only 11 players on the pitch as you simply can’t play Tiote, Colbeck and a another creative midfielder plus Sissoko!!! Where’s the width come from in that formation.
Just replace Cabaye and play either Tiote or Colbeck.
