Newcastle are reported to be interested in teenager Joe Gomez of Charlton, who was one of the players that starred in England’s European Championship run – when we went all the way and beat Germany on penalties in the final. The news is an exclusive in the South London Press.
Joe Gomez – Newcastle interested in 17 year-old center-back
Newcastle had young goalkeeper Freddy Woodman and forward Adam Armstrong also play very well for the England team in that tournament.
The 17-year-old center-back is currently a top young player and the news in south London is that Newcastle are interested in signing the young defender.
However Alan Pardew’s former club are keen to keep the lad, after he was scouted by a number of clubs at the European Championships, where a lot of the England players excelled.
Unfortunately that wasn’t true in the World Cup in Brazil for our senior England players.
Here is some information on the defender that’s taken from the Charlton web-site:
Central defender Joe has been a regular this season, and also featured prominently last term as well, and represented England’s U16 in the Victory Shield before also earning an U17 call-up.
Level-headed and mature, he has some outstanding physical attributes required for his position, is tall and powerful with a good range of passing and can also get attacks started by bringing the ball out from the back four. Another Forest Hill School student, he hails from Catford and boasts electric pace and good leadership qualities.
Newcastle are continuing to try to bring in some of the very best young players around Europe, and it would be a real coup if we can get Joe Gomez to the Tyneside club.
