Newcastle Set To Sign Remy Cabella For £12M

There are reports coming through from France  that Newcastle are set to sign Montpellier star winger Remy Cabella, after we have finally agreed a deal for £12M – which is almost twice the initial bid of £6.5M we made a few weeks ago.

Remy Cabella – agreement reached

Montpellier were also holding out for €16M (£12.8M) – so it looks like Newcastle got very close to that – and that reflects well on Newcastle – that we are (hopefully now) willing to spend the money to get our top targets through the door.

The news  in the French press is that Montpellier President Laurent Nicollin, the son of Louis Nicollin – the one who hates Newcastle –  has told French media they have finally agreed a deal with Newcastle United.

Laurent doesn’t waste words – and this is what he told the French press late this afternoon:

“We have a deal.”

Cabella finally made the French World Cup squad this summer when he replaced the injured Franck Ribery, but he didn‘t see any playing time, and ever since Newcastle went in for him in January he made it known he was keen to join Newcastle.

This is a major breakthrough by Newcastle,  and it even shows the club are willing to pay out the money to get their targets.

Well done Newcastle – assuming this news is true.

Comments welcome.

Wonder whether Nicollin is going to insult Cabella after he signs for us like he did with Mbiwa? Glad it seems done and dusted, although I won’t be happy until the photos at SJP with the shirt in hand are done. Get this Janmaat deal done, or Isla either is fine with me, asap so we can move onto the deal that could prove oat important – an actual goalscorer.

If we are starting to loosen the purse strings, maybe there isa still hope for a top draw centre forward. Will be interesting to see how we line up all these midfielders, particularly while there are still several left backs to shoe horn into the team.

Went shopping with the missus and came back to find we have signed Cabella. Must go shopping again. Superb signing.

I have watched the match against Arsenal on Youtube and Cabella was excellent but he wasn’t a central midfielder. Therefore will we be going after Grenier ?

Far too lightweight in my opinion…good player but a bit powder puff for the Premier League and as for the link to Riviere….please god no! watched him 5 or 6 times last season and he was rank on each occassion….

As it stands I would say lacazette is more of a priority from Lyon. If we could bring both in to the fold then next season would look a very exciting prospect.

I would like to warn Toon fans expectant of a quality signing -Cabella -that as posted earlier he is away home for a short stay in Corsica.
Now I’m not suggesting anything but there is no prize for guessing who goes to Corsica every year for his holidays- he was there at this time last year. Not thought who it is yet —– well it’s…………………………………………………………………………………. Joe Kinnear.
(I’m not making this up either).

    ———-HBA———-De Jong———-Cabella———-

Benny on one side, Cabella on the other and De Jong in behind a new striker .

Not many PL defences will be able to handle them 😉 .

Seeing is believing. I am starting to believe.

If the reports about Ba and Remy has anything to it I will be looking forward to a new season.

To anybody saying Ba and Remy are greedy bastards I say – ‘That’s right! Show me a footballer who isn’t.’

But yes, I will believe it when the first photos of him holding a black and white jersey comes through.

Come on Mr Ashley, bring Ba back, with de Jong and Cabella behind him he will bang in the goals.

Now we just need another two of the same class and we might have a decent team. Grenier plus a top CB.

Remy Cabella is set to jet into the North East over the weekend to finalise terms on a six-year contract with Newcastle United after Montpellier agreed a fee with the Magpies.

Sources in France have indicated that Cabella was expecting to break off his holiday in his hometown of Corsica this morning after being told by his club this morning that a deal was close. Newcastle finally agreed the transfer with Montpellier at around 2pm, with Laurent Nicollin now prepared to go public on the £12million deal.

That has given the player the green light to fly to Newcastle in the next 48 hours.

And while sources in the North East are preaching patience on the deal, Montpellier believe that Cabella has already agreed terms with Newcastle on a six-year contract. Despite the bullish statements from Laurent’s father Louis earlier in the summer it is a deal that has been in the pipeline since January.

It is understood that United banking a bumper fee for Mathieu Debuchy – who is joining Arsenal for around £10million – allowed them to go into eight figures in their negotiations for the first time. Newcastle expect to sign a Debuchy replacement – with Daryl Janmaat of Feyenoord the preferred replacement – for much less than the money they will get for the France international.

While Nicollin is quoted as confirming the deal, United do not intend to make a comment until the deal is formally completed

Let’s hope we can get at least two full seasons out of him before Ashley sells him on – assuming of course that we don’t walk away and Andy sigh him!

Walk away? There’s that possibility when it comes to Cabella’s demands, agents fees – the usual crap that gets in the way of getting a player ‘over the line’!!

When you think about it we are only spending money that we have made from the transfers of Cabaye, Debuchy etc. It will be interesting to see how much we dig into the Sky money etc.

His agent is his dad I think, very likely that the agent fee in this case is very reasonable and that might be a reason why we are paying this kind of money.

At the risk of being slaughtered by the ‘Ashley haters’, it ‘s about time we looked at the positives….bank account ….in the black, money available, negotiating for good players. At least the owner is not putting the club into debt. He is a business man through and through. Some on here who have no business experience slaughter him. You can’t spend what you haven’t got. I can agree with some that a different manager would give us all optimism and certainly give us attacking, free flowing football but changes are happening and with the talent we know have, if Pardew does’nt come up trumps, he will be gone……Past chairmen have made ‘trophy’ signings and all it got us was two trips to wembley with no silverware…..and lots of debt…..perhaps the Phoenix is about to rise again. Howay the lads……

so Cabella is almost over the dreaded line.

    who’s next?

    hopefully either Aurier or Janmaat
    followed by Lacazette and Grenier

Then I’d add Ba and ideally a centre back. Or am I asking for too much there.

As for Riviere he’s decent but would be more of a squad player. Ben Yedder would be a better option
