There’s news in the Mirror today that Newcastle United want to sign 20 year 6’2″ Sporting Lisbon’s central defender or central midfielder Eric Dier, who was born in Cheltenham, England.
Eric Dier – in England colors
When Eric was 10 years old he moved to Portugal, when his mother was offered a job working in that country during the 2004 European Championships.
The 20 year old has progressed through the Youth Academy at Sporting Lisbon and made his first team debut in November 2012, in the Primeira Liga 1–0 home win against S.C. Braga, when he was just 18 years old.
Dier had a loan spell at Everton in the 2011-2012 season and has been capped at U18, U19, U20 and U21 level for England, and from what we can tell this lad seems a great prospect.,
Eric can play in defense or in defensive midfield and he is versatile and offers a physical presence on the field, and we hope the news is true that Newcastle United are after this player.
But here comes the problem – Newcastle are unwilling to pay the £5M valuation that Sporting has put on their player..
It would a bit of a coup if Newcastle can get this lad through the door, and he’s already played 30 times for Sporting Lisbon and the news is that Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are also interested in the English-born defender.
Note to Lee Charnley – sign him up Lee.
What do you think?
Note: Sean Borland has a student season ticket and since he will be away in Calgary studying for a while he wants to sell his season ticket for the first half of the season. The price is £140 – which is what he paid for it – you can contact Sean at email@example.com
