Remy Cabella Similar To Former Newcastle Great

There was a good piece in the Chronicle yesterday from French football journalist Julien Laurens, who compares our potential new signing Remy Cabella with former Newcastle great and current Newcastle fan David Ginola.

Remy Cabella – styled his game on Cristiano Ronaldo

Hopefully tomorrow will be a big day for Newcastle, as the excellent Remy Cabella will fly in from his vacation in Corsica to agree wages with Newcastle and then take a medical before signing along the dotted line and becoming our fourth signing of the season.

This is what Julien Laurens has said about Remy Cabella:

“The most common thing that is said about him is that he’s very much like Ginola. This is because it’s true and because he gets the fans excited.”

“He is very similar to what Ginola was when he was 24. He is a wonderful player and he is someone that the supporters will certainly enjoy watching.”

“He is like Hatem in the way he plays but he is much more clever and grounded.”  “He is a young guy as well but his dad looks after him and he is much more grounded than someone like Hatem, who can do silly things at times.”

“Cabella is much more grounded and is more sensible. He is ambitious and will work hard at Newcastle.” “Cristiano Ronaldo has always been his idol, right down to him having the same haircut.”

“He modeled his game on him with the skills and stepovers as well but he used to be quite ineffective, to be honest. He was told to change his game and he dropped some of the stepovers and now you have seen a big difference in his game.”

“He scored 15 goals and was much more effective.” “He had by far his best season and you could see the difference in it. Newcastle are getting him at a good time and he is an excellent signing for them.”

Those are good words from the French journalist, and if we can get him on board tomorrow, it will add some excitement on Tyneside – and will help with the sale of season tickets, and there are still some available.

Newcastle are also after a number of other players besides Cabella and right back target Daryl Janmaat came on as a sub in the second half for Holland last night, in their rather easy 3-0 win against a sad-looking Brazil side, who suffered their second worst defeat in World Cup football in four days.

Lat night followed their 7-1 trouncing by Germany on Tuesday night, and it seems that Brazil have finally lost the aura and mystique that surrounded their players when they won five World Cups.

And by the way how is David Luiz worth £50M?

Comments welcome.

Note: Sean Borland has a student season ticket and since he will be away in Calgary studying for a while he wants to sell his season ticket for the first half of the season. The price is £140 – which is what he paid for it – you can contact Sean at

As he compares himself with Ginola and Ronaldo who are both wingers, and what I have seen on You Tube of him which confirms that, who will be the creative playmaker alongside Tiote as surely Siem De Jong is the number ten.

Are we still going after Grenier, hope so.

    Colback alongside tiote, or anita.

Though in an ideal pardew-less world we would have sissoko there and HBA-SDJ-Cabella behind the CF. Obv wont happen tho.

I can see occasions when Colback would partner Tiote but neither of them is a creative playmaker in the Cabaye mold and Anita doesn’t have the vision and range of passing as Cabaye had.

Some have suggested that Sissoko could partner Colback and Tiote but Sissoko’s strength appears to be at driving at the opposition.

If we cannot get Grenier then someone like Huddlestone or Carrick would be a good second best albeit they are getting on a bit.
