Daryl Janmaat is expected to be the next Newcastle signing of the summer, and he will be the 5th player through the door this summer at Newcastle United.
Daryl Janmaat in Holland’s colors
Daryl was born in Leidschendam, South Holland on July 22nd, 1989, and the 6’1″ right back started his senior career in 2007 with ADO Den Haag, after spending much of his youth career at Feyenoord.
Den Haag was where Tim Krul was signed from by Graeme Souness back in the summer of 2005, and when Janmaat joined then they were in the second division in Holland.
In 2008 the then 19-year-old moved SC Heerenveen and had four seasons with the club, and played exactly 100 times for Heerenveen with 6 goals and 8 assists, before he then moved back to Feyenoord in 2012 as a free agent.
Janmaat has played 74 times for Feyenoord in the last two seasons and scored 5 goals with 11 assists – and his assists are generally from bombing down the right wing and putting the ball across into the penalty area.
From what we’ve seen of him in Brazil he is excellent at crossing the ball into the penalty box, and should do very well at Newcastle.
Janmaat made his debut for Holland back in September 0f 2012, playing the full game in a 2–0 home win against Turkey in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
And of course he was an important member of Louis van Gaal’s squad in the finals in Brazil that have just ended with Germany beating Argentina 1-0 in the final after extra time on Sunday night.
Daryl played his first game in the World Cup finals in that 5–1 humiliation of the defending World Champions Spain on 13th June.
Janmaat played every minute of the three group rounds, and made appearances in the knockout rounds as a sub, including playing the second half in the 3-0 rout of Brazil for the third place spot on Saturday night.
And while Daryl is an excellent attacking right back, he is also a good defender too, and could well develop into an even better player than the departing Mathieu Debuchy, who is almost exactly four years older than Daryl – and Mathieu turns 29 before the end of this month.
Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester United have all been interested in Daryl in the past, and we think this lad could be another excellent signing for Newcastle United at around £5M.
Janmaat played 11 times for the Dutch U21 side and has 22 full caps for his country, and in his club career so far he has played 199 first team games with 15 goals and 20 assists.
He looks a very good right back to us. 😀

Comment #81Why are so many still hung up on signing Grenier? Last thing we need right now is another midfielder so unless sissoko is on his way out we should be spending the money on a striker and then a young, speedy CB.

Comment #84More than anything, I think we’ve signed intelligent footballers this window. AMs that make good decisions, have an awareness of space, are quick in the mind and have a team ethic foremost in their minds, which will complement Cisse perfectly. In Janmaat I think we’ve got a steady headed Debuchy with, unlike Debuchy, the physique to match his guts.

People keep posting Cabella, SDJ, HBA, as their preferred att-mid. If we do that we’ll get destroyed down the wings and people will moan again that Pards can’t play attacking football when he has to drop Benny as usual for not tracking back.
We should stop relying on our attackers to defend.
Let’s get three in the middle, Moussa the more advanced of them, Tiote and Colback behind him, then have Cabella and SDJ playing off the striker and drifting out wide too.
If we only have 2 in the centre and put Benny or Remy on the wings then that won’t work, it never has under Pardue.

I agree with your statement but how many of the players you have mentioned come from our youth system? Who in our set up is going to teach these kids? I’d rather a young Armstrong learn from a Uwe Rosler (Wigan) than Carver and Co who quite frankly have no clue.
Would you have accepted Lukaku on loan last year? If it wasn’t for Remy last year we’d be in the championship, I agree loan deals aren’t ideal but what they do is build relationships and trust between clubs, a lot of Arsenal youngsters could do a job here sometimes Wenger recommends players to managers or clubs where he has good relations with!! Its more than just a loan move but at the minute its a loan move we desperately need as we have ZERO strikers!!

Comment #87Great bit of business getting Janmaat as Debuchy’s replacement .
He is strong in the tackle, quick, attacking, taller than Debuchy and his final ball is a little better .

I’d have HBA Cabella De Jong as my 3 behind the striker. Yes chances are that Cabella and HBA wont track back as much as we need them to but Tiote and Sissoko should be able to cover as holding players….for the love of god please leave Colback on the bench!! Abeid could be good cover for De Jong on the bench
Tiote and Sissoko would have the pace and strength to put out fires across the midfield and lets concentrate more on what creative players bring rather than what creative players don’t do defensively!!

Mate HBA will not be in the squad again
For me Sissoko has looked at his best wide for us, he’s never played a toon game in the middle where he’s looked good

Yeh, fair point mate, I would’ve taken Lukaku for sure. But I don’t rate Campbell as highly as him, not even close imo.
I guess it might be deeper than just giving players a chance, you’re right about Carver and co. But on the flip side, if Arma can come through looking awesome at Youth level, and for England’s youth team too, despite our terrible back room staffing, then he’s probably even better than we think!
I think Armstrong should be given a chance this season. It’s risky but if we’re gonna be creating goal scoring opportunities, the lad is bound to bag a few and really kick on from there.

That all sounds very plausible and yes I wouldn’t dismiss him sticking around even after he serviced the debt, to take some pocket money out as dividend each year, but that’s all hypothetical right now.
A lot remains to be seen and now we know there’s £50-60m sloshing around, it’ll be interesting to see what he does with it. We might not get clarity yet, but things are slowly coming to a head.

You’re probably right, but I can’t see MA allowing a purple to be wasted if we can’t offload him, not with his wages anyway, I think he’ll tell Pardew that he has to play him, and anyway, with a few injuries we’ll need Benny.
Our Toon
I don’t think Sissoko is a great CDM, nor a great winger, but he would be great with two behind him. I like Colback, he’s a very solid player, we really need that for every other game when Tiote’s head ain’t in it.

We’ve wasted 2 seasons hoping Cisse would regain even an ounce of form, theres no way on earth we should be relying on him for a third, CF’s need bringing in and players like Cisse need to be moved on
Marv Cisse Benny Ober Jonas offer nout to the squad as it stands, were stuck with 5 Alan Smiths/Xisco’s sitting quietly in the background watching there bank balances grow

I know what your saying with Armstrong but he comes on for 5 mins off the bench to play RW or some other position which is a bit alien to the kid, why waste him doing that when he could learn more elsewhere
Blubber – It certainly will be interesting to see how things have progressed and exactly how much of the debt has come down

Sissoko had a reputation before he came here as a Toure esc type player, much like Citeh Sissoko would be better utilised as a DM and then the last 20mins of a game push him up get colback on to sit. Sissoko would destroy tired defenders in that short space

Comment #99Well things are looking a lot better mates. The main concern for me now is still the attack. I’m not convinced about our striker situation at all. As well I’d still like to see us get a good young CB in. Still my hopes for the team have risen no end.

Comment #104The chances of Cisse regaining his form are very slim.
No chance in my opinion.
If he was fit at the moment, I’m convinced he would be out the door in this window.
Wouldn’t be bothered if he left, if I’m honest.

Comment #105So demba ba looks likely to join besiktas.
Remy costs too much and wants big wages. Lacazette may happen but the transfer fee seems to be moving up.
Surely it’s time to bid for aubameyang!
I can’t see us going for lukaku or Hernandez. Doumbia possibly?

Comment #106I know HBA spits some fans down the middle but I personally love the kid . The way the team is shaping up it looks like Tiote & Colback will be the holding players with :
———Sissoko———De Jong———Cabella———
playing behind the striker .
So basically Colback would be getting in the team ahead of HBA which would be a huge waste IMO. Benny wins a lot more games for NUFC than his defensive discipline loses IMO, and has been made a scapegoat by many fans even though the whole team was shocking last season .
I think HBA should be given another chance, but he must be warned that if he doesn’t get 100% fit or help out defensively (not playing as a second full back as some think every winger needs to do) then he will lose his place in the side .
———Sissoko———–Tiote————–
—HBA———De Jong———Cabella—
is one of the best midfields in the league and other than the big boy’s only matched by Everton IMO .

Comment #108I wouldn’t expect Cisse to recapture the dazzling wonder goal every game form, that’s impossible, but I think he can be of use and be a solid 1 in 3 ST, given the supply he’d be getting and presumably the point man in this 4-2-3-1 formation we seem to be setting up for.
That’s why I reckon we’ll sign Riviere then shut up shop, because he can probably come in and be a 1 in 3 man too and that’ll be deemed good enough at£4m, as the onus will be on Cabella and SDJ to contribute more goals than our AMs have in the past; unless we’re given an opportunity to good to turn down eg like Lukaku on loan.

Comment #115Great signing; just hope he doesn’t take too long to bed in; we need decent FBs right from the off.
Big Pappa Cissé – got to pick you up on the HBA thing. Check the stats if you wish, but when he played… we basically lost. That was hard to spot in the 2nd half of the season because we ALWAYS lost but still…
The thing with Hatem is that what we’re seeing is what every club he’s played for has seen. He’s inconsistent, lacks dedication and plays selfishly. No high-end team can carry someone like that on the basis that he scores exciting goals once or twice a season.
He’s not been Pardewed; he’s just got a shite attitude and needs to move on. He can be a traffic warden or something.

Comment #117We’ve got what -another 5 weeks of the window? Is anyone else thinking we stand more chance of losing good players than getting more?
I’m concerned that Krul and Sissoko will be tempted away and we’ll be left with a similar situation to a couple of years back when there were too many new faces and nothing gelled for weeks.
Hope I’m wrong. But seven years of Ashleyness makes you a cynic.

Comment #120Odds are we’ll line-up like this in the opener:
____________Krul____________
Janmaat__Saylor__Colo__Haidara
______Tiote_____Colback
Sissoko______SDJ______Cabella
____________Riviere
Subs: Elliot, Willo, Raylor (think Pardew will have him included out of loyalty and to recognise the effort he’s put in to return to fitness), Anita, HBA (think it’ll go down to the wire if he does leave), Perez, Gouffran
Saylor will weedle his way back in during pre-season, no doubt.
