Janmaat Having Newcastle Medical – Photo

Newcastle are about to announce the signing of Daryl Janmaat this afternoon, after he has had his medical in Newcastle and below is a shot of Daryl with manager Alan Pardew at the Benton training grounds today.

Daryl Janmaat with Alan Pardew today

And if 24 year-old Janmaat signs on as expected, then the transfer of Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal will go through for around £10M, and we’ll see if we can get 22 year-old striker Joel Campbell on loan or signed permanently as part of that particular deal.

But as with Remy Cabella, when Janmaat does sign on at Newcastle, he will not be on the plane to New Zealand later this week for our pre-season tour, after he has been with the Holland Squad at the World Cup and only got back last week after Holland finished 3rd in that tournament.

The signings are not over this week for Newcastle after Daryl joins the club, with Lee Charnley working hard on getting 24 year-old  Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere onto Tyneside for a reported fee of £6M – and it could be tomorrow that Emmanuel jets into Newcastle to take his medical and sign along the dotted line.

Things are finally starting to pick up on  Tyneside.

Comments welcome.

Sean Borland has a student season ticket and since he will be away in Calgary studying for a while he wants to sell his season ticket for the first half of the season. The price is £140 – which is what he paid for it – you can contact Sean at s.borland@ncl.ac.uk

A decent signing, but no doubt we will be told how much has been invested in the club by fatty Ashley. Debuchy and one other (probably Sissoko) will leave, and we’ll still have a net spending on players of ZERO. As this article suggests!

What does it really matter how much we spend or don’t spend as the case may be? if we manage to bring in these quality players and end up with a net spend of zero or even a profit surly that’s a good thing for the club. we get five or six quality signings through the door to replace the outgoing players (who want to be away) and it’s cost nothing that’s just good business.

It also means that if we have to spend a bit more to add depth to the squad (hopefully) then we still have the money to do that.

wow. we actually bought him for around 6 million.

He’s an absolute steal at that price, and for me a definite upgrade on Debuchy.

for once, celebrate and go buy your season tickets.it doesn’t matter how much he makes as long as we get players that can improve our league position.

now we can hope they complete a hatrick of ba, remy and micah and then we are solid for the new season

reckon if we can get ba back on tynside cisse might just find his form again

Tweaked@6 I’m not sure I understand how Ba coming back would help Cisse find his form? I think you could argue the case that we never found a mutually beneficial system when they were here the first time round. Ba wasn’t happy playing wide in a 4-3-3 when Cisse first signed & went on that crazy goalscoring run & they didn’t click at all as a partnership in a 4-4-2.

Probably all irrevelant anyway as I doubt Ba is even on our radar

Pardrew still wants to sign two strikers, we know one is Riviere who it is being reported is due in tomorrow for his medical, but the other could be one of any number of targets being linked, lets just hope for a good one.

@ 6 – Micah would be a good shout, but it would have to be as a CB,

You are absolutely right, when played in a 4-4-2 formation they both seemed to occupy the same space all the time making the easy to mark.

4-4-2 is a dead system and to be honest I can see us playing a 4-5-1 with SDJ in the #10 between Cisse / ?? and Midfield

I agree. I can see a lot of goals coming from our new look midfield, we only need a really good striker, and a cb to shore up out leaky defence and this could turn into a good season for us.

I know I should be happy, but I’m not. It is understood that Cabella cost only £7million, combine that with De Jong £6.5million, Colback for £0 and Perez for £1.8million and we have only spent £15.3million meaning we haven’t even spent the ”Cabaye” money (£20million) yet, I know its early but if you add Janmaat £6million and Riviere £6million and take into the sale of Debuchy £10million we still have made £3million profit, we are then likely to get another striker but thats all I can see happening meaning Ashely is pocketing the £70+million BPL an SkyTV money. It is just not good enough, I also think Riviere is a ”panic” buy as most of our other targets have signed for other clubs, and he just isn’t good enough.?

It looked yesterday like Ba was off to Turkey. He doesn’t to be here anyway. Ditto remy. I think we will be relying on Carr to pull one out of the bag.

Firebug@10 That was one of the most frustrating things for me in the Europa season. Pardew tried to play with Ba & Cisse either up front or on some occasions with Cisse out wide for nearly half a season & as a result witnessed some of the worst football I’ve ever seen. We were lucky to stay up that year & we were actually bailed us out by Swansea beating Wigan in the last minute & Boswinga having a nightmare when we beat QPR!

So its nice to see less negative posts on here and for one some Geordies / Newcastle Fans are actually asking people to be more positive. Yes we all get on the band wagon when Newcastle do nothing in the transfer window, trust me I am one of the first to do it as I have been a supporter for over 40 years. Newcastle United deserve a big thank you for giving us some hope for next season, I’m just hoping now for one world class central defender and another striker and the way the mags are doing business this should come soon. I still think we should try Hatem as an out and out striker just for a few friendly games. Winger turns forward, what was Wenger thinking of doing that to poor Herny. Come on Pards just try it for a few games, it could be a stroke of genius.

Great signing, although he’s not as good as Debuchy at the moment. Debuchy is arguably the best RB in the league. Janmaat is not as good going forward. Hopefully he can develop to be just as good.

For me they have missed a trick with this one were crying out for a LB not a RB even with Debuchy moving Santon was awful last season the amount of goals and games we lost becoz of how weak we were down that side was crazy, Dummet looked out of his dept Love to see Demba Ba coming back to us we need a leader up front.

Tho its great to see new players coming in,i think we are still weaker than the start of last season.
Weare 3 strikers down on last season for starters.
Unless Cashley brings in at least 2 quality strikers soon,we will still struggle.
Every team team in the prem is strengthening ,not just us,so lets not kid ourselves about finishing in the top 6.
Goals win you 3 points, so bringing in 2 strikers is a must.
I agree with Clarko as far as Ashley,s spending is concerned. He is only spending the Cabaye money, and maybe a bit of the Debuchy cash, but the 70 million revenue from sky will end up in his pocket.
Im fed up of his penny pinching.
