Reports That Newcastle Back In For Andy Carroll

There are reports in London that Newcastle may be interested in bringing Andy Carroll back to Newcastle, after the local lad left his home town club for Liverpool in a £35M deal in January of 2011.

Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll at West Ham – many injuries

We suppose it was only to be expected that we would again be linked with Andy when Newcastle are in need of three good strikers this summer.

But there seems to be no truth whatsoever in the rumors, and in any case if Andy is on £100K/week on a six year deal down south, then there is no way Newcastle would pay him wages like that.

For one thing Andy is a little injury prone, and after signing on for the Hammers last summer for around £17M, he missed the first half of the season through injury, and played only 16 games with two goals for the Hammers last term.

There was uproar on Tyneside when the Gateshead striker was sold to Liverpool three and a half years ago – but Andy hasn’t really developed into the tip top player we thought he could become at that time.

There’s still time for him to do that of course with the lad being only 25 years old, but injuries have blighted his career so far, and he didn’t make the England squad for the World Cup.

We suppose we’ll be linked with Andy even in the future, but the chances of the Gateshead ever returning to the club he still supports – have to be very slim.

Comments welcome.

Sean Borland has a student season ticket and since he will be away in Calgary studying for a while he wants to sell his season ticket for the first half of the season. The price is £140 – which is what he paid for it – you can contact Sean at s.borland@ncl.ac.uk

‘…Why not try benny up front for one pre season game?..’

With his added weight (allegedly) the rest of the team will have no difficulty spotting him lumbering around up front !

Instead of ‘reports in London’ it should have read:

‘reports from his agent in London’

    Average,
No worries, cheers for that. I reckon we can consign that one to the heap then. No chance we will be stumping up £15million if Arsenal only have to pay £8mill. Although I’m sure Ashley would love to play a game of brinkmanship over this one and get one over on Fernandes.

    Blofal,
I think I’ve heard it all now, a team desperately short of goals and confidence to start a season without a striker with Percy Pardew to implement a Barcelona type passing game with a team packed with attacking midfielders.

    Jail

    He has a cunning plan.

He will play Anita and Campbell upfront to totally confuse and scare their defenders as when our heroes leap to head the ball all they will be able reach in height is the defenders groin. Bound to work.

    Lil,
I’ve been surprised for a long time now that SD hasn’t been on the front of our shirts, the maths has obviously been done and it hasn’t been worth the loss in income, now we’re turning a profit I wouldn’t be surprised if our next sponsor was one of his companies.

    Sydney from previous
Given the players we’ve signed I’m not to sure we’ll use traditional wingers
Can see us lining up similar to last season in a 4-5-1 with Cabella as a LAM De Jong as a CAM and Sissoko RAM with Tiote and Colback/ Anita sitting behind them

Last season, he would have been a good OPTION for us. I think we could have rescued more points in games if we had been able to throw him on and get the ball up to him (yeah, not pretty, but neither was faffing around in the final third and not scoring). This season it seems as if the team is being built differently, so even if we do want a ‘big man’ option, i think they need to be different to A.C.

And in further news Alan Shearer Supermac and Andy Cole were seen in the lounge bar of the Ship Inn Benton clearly waiting to train over the road

I like your use of acronyms.

For our defenders we can have the DIM and the DUM or is that our coaches !

    On Carroll
    Why, just why?
Only 25 and his career has already peaked and he’s in decline!
It would be a big fee and big wages just to bring him in solely because he’s local
Then you’ve got the question of whether of not he’ll actually make it off the treatment table each season

Them aren’t we either playing 4-2-3-1 or some variant of a 4-3-3?

it is true we did play 4-5-1 last season, but no way did we use either a RAM or a LAM. We did deploy LDJ in an ACM position with no luck what so ever.

I agree though we will probably venture down that road once again like nothing had happen before!

or do a 4-6-0 like Germany does?

Just deploy Cabella, SDJ, Sissoko, Colback, Anita and Tiote into the box from time to time.

toonarmydownsouth – I’m seeing the formation and team (so far) exactly the same. The key piece is the striker. The way I see it we could go for a Carroll type battering ram, knock balls into him and have the others play off his flick-ons and hold up play.
The other option would be a lighter, floaty forward, expecting the whole team to play more of a passing and moving game. Knocking balls between the lines.

Know which I’d prefer and know which I expect. Unfortunately they’re not the same

Because of their proven ability to lose players, thereby causing the inevitable panic, confusion and general havoc that ensues in the box, Why not pair the telepathic Steven Taylor and Yanga Mbiwa together and play them up front?

I reckon Carroll’s told his agent to do it, maybe even West Ham have. He’s an injury liability. How many games has he played since leaving Newcastle ? Another Michael Owen – CAN do it when he wants, just doesn’t want to very often

with some of the posters on here always complaining about the hoof ball that is allegedly played by NUFC, is Andy the right player to be signing? Surely we would be better with a more mobile quicker player.
