Siem de Jong, Colback And Armstrong Start At Oldham

Two of our summer signings Siem de Jong and Jack Colback have been handed starting roles in the game tonight at Oldham Athletic,  with young Jak Alnwick in goal – with both senior goalkeepers Tim Krul and Rob Elliot not back from their summer break yet.

Newcastle United Training Session

Siem de Jong in training – captains the side tonight

17 year-old promising Geordie youngster Adam Armstrong also gets a starting position in tonight’s side.

Ayoze Perez is on the subs bench and could also see his first action in a Newcastle shirt tonight, and Haris Vuckic is also on the bench, but we could see Haris moved out this summer, after only a so-so loan spell at Rotherham United earlier this year.

Siem de Jong captains the side tonight in his very first appearance for Newcastle and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – who is likely to leave Newcastle this summer, starts in central defense partnering local lad Steven Taylor.

Here is the side that Alan Pardew has announced for our first pre-season friendly game:

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Jak Alnwick; Vurnon Anita, Steven Taylor, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Paul Dummett; Mehdi Abeid, Jack Colback; Yoan Gouffran, Siem de Jong (c), Rolando Aarons; Adam Armstrong
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Massadio Haidara, Remie Streete, Lubo Satka, Gael Bigirimana, Sammy Ameobi, Haris Vuckic, Ayoze Perez

    As it stands it’s hard not to get excited for next season though, if only Pardew had the balls to play the team like this;

    ————————–Cisse / ?————————

    –Cabella / Gouffran—————-HBA / Sissoko–

    ———————Siem De Jong————————

    ————-Tiote————Anita / Colback————

    –Santon——–Mbiwa———Colo———Janmaat–

    —————————–Krul—————————–

That looks good I have to say and we could perhaps swap Sissoko for Anita in the middle and bring on Sammy Ameobi if HBA ain’t doing the business.

We still need a bit more depth in Strikers, Wingers and a CB and we’re done 🙂

I thought Yanga had been spotted at the airport with his family and all of his life possessions?

Got to love silly season 🙂

Anyway, good to see him getting game time. My issue with Yanga is that Pardew has said he doesn’t see him partnering Colo and it doesn’t look like Colo will be dropped anytime soon, so he wont get his chance.

Let’s hope he makes a good impression and forces his way back in. I think the lad has a bright future ahead…could make us millions in a season or two 😉

Be good to see what Aarons is like. Young promising winger, can he go further than Sammy and Shane?

He was but Kets stood at the boarding gate with an industrial tub of Vaseline and a rather large sex toy and asked Yanga how he rated his chances of getting past him with no limp

Janmaat’s probably had second thoughts due to that imbecilic stalker guy harassing him for a photo and giving him the impression all Geordies are deranged. On the motorway bound for Liverpool as we speak.

This is why the Janmaat deal has been delayed!
@lee_ryder: Vurnon Anita has started the game at right-back and has looked comfortable so far. No real chances from either side. #nufc five mins

I cant imagine you’ll get any streams. Not exactly the most in demand pre season friendly there is. Best probably just to follow lee ryder.

Guess we’re quite lucky the NZ tour is being broadcast + the schalke cup. Fair few watchable games by pre season standards.
