Pardew Confirms Interest In Striker – Riviere Already In Newcastle

The news broke last night that Newcastle had agreed a fee for 24 year-old Emmanuel Riviere of Monaco – and the fee in the French press was quoted as €8M, which is around £6.4M.

Emmanuel Riviere – soon to be Newcastle player

The French reports suggested Riviere would be flying into Newcastle today or tomorrow to agree wages and take a medical and sign along the dotted line, but the Chronicle has reported this morning that he flew into Newcastle  last night ready to do the deal.

And Alan Pardew talked about the transfer situation in the Shields Gazette last night, after the 2-1 defeat at Oldham – and this is what he had to say about the reports on Riviere:

“It’s another one that we’re talking to.” “He’s a player that we have some interest in.”

“Janmaat – that’s pretty close, but that’s as good as I can say at the moment.” “I’ve been involved in the Oldham game, so I don’t know the detail of it.”

“We’re being active at the moment, and we need to be,” “We need to be stronger than we were last year.”

That’s an understatement that we need to be better than last season, and although we were OK through Christmas and were in 6th place in the league on Christmas Day – we completely collapsed in the second half of the season.

It seems the Janmaat deal has been held up some reason,  so we hope he got though his medical OK, and that terms have been agreed with the player – and with any luck that signing will be announced today some time.

Emmanuel would be a good signing for Newcastle, and he was at Toulouse with Moussa Sissoko before hi joined Monaco 18 months ago, so he knows at least one player in our squad.

We can get both Daryl Janmaat and Emmanuel Riviere signed soon, and certainly before the end of the week.

Well happy we are strengthening our forward line….. Dont know anything about this fella and had not even heard of him prior to the last week.

I hope the club have another proven striker up their sleeve and not just relying on this young lad.

It might be they wanted to get the targets in as early as THEY could, see how much is left in the house keeping purse which would then decide what level/value striker we could go for.

Shola might be back yet 😉

Googled Rudy Raba and i van see hes a french guy and agent for Younes Kaboul and has been for Adel Taarabt in the past. I showed her pics of Rivierre and Cabella because she said there were two guys with him but said the other 2 werent those two. Wonder whats going on there? I found a link whike searching for this guy that he mentioned Moussa Sissoko and interest from Napoli so im wondering if hes off maybe? Good bit of info though be interesting to see what that pans out to be.
