There is news in the local papers that Newcastle may be interested in Belgium striker Christian Benteke – who had a great first season at Aston Villa two years ago and scored 23 goals in 39 appearances, but didn’t do as well last season with only 11 goals in 28 appearances..
Christian Benteke – would be good (great) signing for Newcastle
And since American owner Randy Lerner is trying to sell the club and put the financial books in order – Aston Villa are probably willing to listen to decent offers for the 17 times capped Belgian International (6 International goals).
Christian is still only 23 so he has a lot of good years ahead of him, and he has proved he can score goals in the Premier League and that’s somebody that Newcastle must sign in the summer.
Christian is out injured right now with a ruptured Achilles tendon, which is why he wasn’t in the Belgian squad for the World Cup, and they could have used him in Brazil with Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku not having a very good tournament.
It was in early April that Benteke suffered the rupture of his Achilles tendon while training, and he will be out for at least six months, so he will not be fit until September, and that could be a barrier to getting a deal done in this transfer window.
But this still seems to us like a decent possibility for Newcastle – as long as Aston Villa’s asking price isn’t too high, but Villa could want close to £20M for the player who has scored 34 goals in 67 total appearances for Villa – not too bad at all.
If we could get Benteke to Newcastle – it would go down very well with the Geordie fans – and this lad looks like an excellent striker and he’s at the right age too.
