All You Need To Know About Emmanuel Riviere

Newcastle beat both West Brom and Stoke City to the signing of 24 year-old Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere last night, and the lad is simply delighted to have signed on at such a big club with a great history, and when he heard Newcastle were interested in him he told his representatives  that’s the club he wanted to join.

Emmanuel Riviere – 24 year-old Newcastle striker

The 24 year-old is 6 ft tall but he’s not (yet) a prolific goalscorer – and while at Toulouse for two seasons until he moved to Monaco 18 months ago for around £3M, he scored 10 goals in 47 appearances – and since he’s been at Monaco he’s scored 17 goals in 50 appearances.

He started his senior career at St Etienne back in 2009 and while there he played 85 games with 19 goals before he moved to Toulouse in 2011.

He was born in Martinique in 1990 and started playing for local side Espoir Sainte-Luce in the commune of Sainte-Luce until the player finally signed for St. Etienne in 2005, and initially played in the Youth sides before making his senior debut in 2009.

Emmanuel has played for all the French Youth sides from U16 through U21 and he played 15 times with 6 goals for the U21 side from 2010 – 2013.

And while Riviere usually plays up front as a striker he can also play on either wing – so he should be a very useful player for Newcastle.

After signing Emmanuel has this to say last night:

“I’m very happy to be here at Newcastle. When the club spoke to me I said yes immediately. It was an easy decision because Newcastle is a big club with great fans and a good stadium.”

So this lad has a good pedigree – but the main thing he is not yet the finished article and he can improve big time while at Newcastle – and we hope that’s exactly what happens. 😀

What do you think?

I’m looking at this lad as a step in the right direction, purely from the perspective of replacing Shola. Now we really need a proven goal scorer who fans and other teams know and fear, Benteke is just a wild dream but he would certainly be ideal once fully recovered.

Good work so far NUFC but this is only the beginning so don’t stop now.
Don’t do a DiCanio and buy lots of average players and further imbalance the team, get the Janmaat deal tied up then move QUICKLY for a big name striker and CB.

You haven’t made yourself popular so far Mr Ashley but this is your opportunity to start putting things right. Regardless of being rich your life would feel a whole lot better if you actually had the fans on your side. We’re all watching.

    Lil,
I’m in full agreement there that we need another three in to honestly say the squad has improved, a striker goes without saying, definitely a commanding CB WITH PL experience and I think they have to bite the bullet with Marv and Obertan and bring somebody in who can do a job regardless if we can’t shift them or not, progress shouldn’t suffer because of a couple of bad decisions.
    ethitoon,
Did you just get out of prison or something ?

It’s good move for our attack formation. I agree that we need one more striker.

Who cares about where he is in the past
From what I read,he is improving just like
    Cabella and janmaat.
Good age, strong and pacy as they told us
I will judge him when I see him playing in EPL.other than that I have a feeling we will get loic Remy or Joel campbell

To not see shola for 1 sec at anytime on the pitch this season is a successful season for me

    musomag,
The thing is, it’s been that long since we’ve had success he doesn’t even have to win anything to become popular, just looking like he’s trying is enough to get the fans on side.

    Sounds like an excellent signing.

Will he be playing on the left wing (as Cabella plays on the right) or upfront with Cisse or as yet to be recruited centre forward?

    ethitoon,
I’ve read that people who have been in jail a long time are a bit confused with the changes that have happened in society while they’ve been behind bars, when you said Pardew, Charnley and Ashley were the best signings this season, it made me wonder.

So, Dr Ed and his good lady are on their way back to the US and at least he’s been around to hear of our signings.

Or, has he had a word in the ear of our illustrious owner and put him wise to fans’ expectations and aspirations?

Highly coincidental that Ashley’s spending money when the good Doctor’s in the country eh? 🙂

Anyway, safe journey back over the pond.

Janmaat’S signing has to do with Debuchy signing as I said it Earlier.
Looks like we may get Campbell or jenkinson or someone as part of the deal.
Arsenal officials waiting for wengers response whether to sanction that.
Personally I will take Gnabry or some other central defender

Been a good week so far hopefully Janmaat will sign -ain’t know what is going on there!!

Still think we need a centre half and a centre forward/goalscorer.

Would take Benteke but wee bit worried about his injury – like to know the score on that one.

It’s great hearing all the optimism however lets get real. Rivière ain’t no remy, cabaye will likely be more effective in the prem then de jonk, Debuchy is a better RB then janmaat, colback is basically just a goslin replacement and will cabella any better then HBA???
