Newcastle Set To Miss Out On Alexandre Lacazette

23 year-old Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette is on the verge of signing a three-year contract extension at the French club, and that will come as a disappointment to Newcastle United, who already bid earlier this summer for the top young French player.

Alexandre Lacazette – set to stay at Lyon?

The news coming thorough is that Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas has told the French press that the club are negotiating with the player and his agent on an improved contract to stay at Lyon.

reporters in France that officials are currently in talks with Lacazette about extending his stay.

The Magpies were targeting the 23-year-old to complement recent signing Emmanuel Riviere from Monaco, having missed out on Bafetimbi Gomis and Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

This is what Aulas has said today:

“We had lunch with him and his agent Thursday.”“We are on track to achieving a three-year extension, we confirmed yesterday. It is for him to make his decision. He is under contract until 2016. He is a young player.”

Newcastle pinpointed Alexandre as one of their striker targets this summer but were rebuffed by Lyon when they said they wanted €16M (£12.8M) or the two times capped French International.

And it wasn’t just the transfer fee that was a barrier to Newcastle with the player himself saying he wanted to play for a club that plays in the Champions League.

And that’s not Newcastle.

With Luis Suarez moving to Barcelona, Liverpool have entered the chase for the Lyon striker – but it’s  looking like we will miss out on (yet) another striker target.

Newcastle have already missed out on German striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga who went to Hamburg, Bafe Gomis who joined Swansea, and West Ham United have just signed the Pachuca striker Enner Valencia on a five-year contract for about £14M, with the Ecuador international awaiting a work permit to complete the deal.

Newcastle still need two good strikers brought in this summer, and who they may be is a very good question.

9-11 (or 11-9 here) Was the most horrific thing that happened in my life time, i think. I remember taking a late lunch at work, when i got back the radio was on, and everyone looked so shocked because a plane had flown into the TTs. Then as we listened, a second one hit. I felt sick at all the lost life, that was before we even knew the full impact. So sorry you lost important people in your life to that mindless act.

Grenier is not a viable alternative to a striker. We need a 15 goal foward.

9/11 was bad no doubt but what has stuck in my mind is that 3,000 (maybe more) people died on that day, 9/11 led to an illegal war in which over 500,000 (minimum) have died!! That’s not including the brave men and women of our armed forces that have lost there lives because of such actions!!

Sorry for getting political but it irritates me that we forget just how many lives have been lost on the back of 9/11.

RIP to all passengers on that flight, absolutely horrific!!

    now, in other toon news…

mike ashley was admitted to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with acute amnesia… when asked by the doctor ( a toon supporter), who told him he is happy with the incoming transfers… ashley stood up and shouted, ” i spent what on whom? damn that lee charnley!!”

The most frightening thing is that our soldiers have been sent to die and arguably things have become worse due to our meddling in foreign affairs!!

I’m very much against this regime but the statement they have released is a real touch of class, they’ve acted quickly and have responded to this tragedy is the perfect manner!! Well done MA and the goon squad!!

If he’s available and if he’d come I think welbeck would be a great signing.

He’s a lot better than many on here give him credit for and he’s a pardew type player.

He’d be our 15 goal striker.

He can provide more than 15goals if he plays as a striker.
    Grenier… what a player…

Somebody mentioned him the other day. I agree. I think he is in the same situation Sturridge was at Chelsea and could easily convert to being a very good striker.

We are fast running out of players rdy. I’m sure our Plan A to Plan S for our strikers have all moved elsewhere or out of reach.

Is Ameobi still on a free….? We just might….

Wellbeck is nothing like sturridge, at least with him you could see potential whereas wellbeck’s got as much chance of being a good striker as mike Ashley has of being a good football club owner!

I m not saying Grenier is a striker.I just say we should sign Grenier, and if we do,
We can use siem as a striker or cabella as a skr.we don’t need another skr if we get G
Bcoz we have cisse,Reviere,Goufran and siem of course..

De Jong is definitely a number 10. He’s a creator and will pull strings but i dont think we should be looking to him to work as an out and out goal scorer.

Same applies for Cabelle but from the wings rather than a number 10 role.

If Lacazette is signing another deal at Lyon then fine… they’ve clearly decided that Grenier is the one to sell, and Lacazette to be kept.

My feeling towareds Greniér aside; I think a talismanic striker is a must and we should be pushing to get a player the likes of Benteke, or Lukaku.

Lasogga was to be that player but he chose Hamburg over us at the 11th hour and we’ve been working down the list of options it would seem.

Pierre-emerick Aubemeyang has also been mentioned but his primary position is a wide right attacker, and we’re OK in that area at the minute.

Riviére is, in my opinion a speedy forward who we’ve signed as an alternate option to the mercinary Loic Remy.

So who replaces the Shola/De Jong role? The bloke at the top of the pyramid who holds it up and lets the skilful dudes work their magic while he draws defenders away?

There isnt many who fit that position i can think of off the top of my head.

I guess Carroll springs to mind, and i wouldnt be shocked if we tested the waters at West Ham with a £10m bid. Especially now theyve signed Enner Valencia.
