Are Newcastle Trying To Sign This Top PL Striker?

9:29 am, Sunday, July 20th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 49 Comments

Newcastle United still have to bring at least one recognized striker into the squad this summer, after already doing some great work to bring six good players to Newcastle so far, and that has helped lift the spirits of Newcastle fans everywhere.

Christian Benteke

Christian Benteke – would be a terrific signing

And while it’s always a team effort to get these players into the club and Lee Charnley, Alan Pardew and Chief Scout Graham Carr are heavily involved in all the moves – Managing Director Lee Charnley is leading the charge for the club – and he deserves huge credit so far in his first transfer window as our Managing Director.

And we’ve said before that people like Lee, who are quiet, but are all business and get the job done are worth their weight in gold in any organization.

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has shown he can score goals in the Premier League, and he had a great first season at Aston Villa two years ago when he scored 23 goals in 39 appearances, but Christian didn’t do so well last season with only 11 goals in 28 appearances – but he was hampered by injuries.

We were first linked with Benteke last week, and there are reports out today that Newcastle are indeed interested in getting Benteke to Newcastle this summer, but a barrier could be he is recovering from a ruptured Achilles, and will not be fit until September, after suffering the injury in early April.

Newcastle have signed players on a permanent basis before who were injured – and they include Dan Gosling in 2010 who had an ACL knee injury when we signed him, and Ben Arfa in January 2011, who had sustained a double fracture of his left leg in the previous October.

In the striker department we current have new signing Emmanuel Riviera who is in the squad in New Zealand, and Papiss Cisse who is recovering from a broken knee cap.

And we also have Siem de Jong, who will probably wear the number 10 shirt and play in the withdrawn striker role, and this lad has looked great so far – and he could get us some goals next season.

But we need somebody of Benteke’s stature in the squad, and Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner wants to sell the club and it helps if the financial books are in order.

So Villa could be willing to let Benteke leave this summer, and maybe Newcastle can negotiate a decent deal – although it could be late September before the Belgian International striker is ready to play again, and Christian will not come cheap.

But we would just love for Newcastle to sign this 23 year-old.

What do you think?

    The next mike Williamson

It’s a myth people bought into unfortunately

I’m not saying bennys hasn’t any faults far from it, but to be made a scapegoat when your brought onto the pitch when your teams already losing 0-2 through negative hoofball and a unwillingness to attack a defensively frail manure team, then react to it I don’t blame the lad!

Unfortunately for him it’s not about the weight issue anymore it’s about parsnips ego and no matter what shape he turned up to pre-season for he was going to be in this situation regardless imo!

All the evidence points to this scenario as proved by marv turning up fit as a fiddle but being banished too!

Of course we will never know what’s gone on but I’m of the opinion that their both to blame but I’d rather have benny at the club with a clean slate then that lying silver tongued league 1 chancer!

    The next Mike Williamson

agree with u on prev post,, cabella will be nxt to get pardwed

  • 3 Bambams // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:35 AM

    Lukaku for me…….

    But that wont happen

  • 4 Rotonda heights // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:35 AM

forget benteke and carroll, both sicknotes.

If we’ve got upwards of 15M to waste on carroll, we have to go for Lukaku or P.E.A, plus Eric Dier for our rubbish CBs. it’s not rocket science

    Ed slow down man

Re- previous thread, superb comments by bladeuser and sliema. As for you Charlie I certainly wasn’t crying in my beer, best bit of business ever 36M for a half a season wonder!

    ed

    Carroll really isn’t good news.

Much rather we had signed 2 quick and mobile goal scoring strikers like valencia and zarate, no wonder west ham want rid of carroll.

What was the point of getting a few decent technical players to play passing football if we are just going to lump it to carroll for the few games of the season he is fit.

Just when things are looking up, reality hits that we still have the worst manager and c–ppiest sponsor and now even more hoofball to look forward to. Pardew won’t even have to lie about it any more as carroll is his ready made excuse. G-RRR!!!!

  • 5 JAMSHA // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:35 AM

PARDEW the clown needs to go… signg top player wont help untill pardew is sacked.

    Repost –

Next Mike, good post about Hatem.

Of the lad hadn’t had months of being scapegoated, misused and undervalued, would he be this demotivated? A highly doubt it. I’d be de-motivated under Pardull as well.

For a flair player to have a team which sits back for most of the game is bad enough, but for his manager to publicly blame him for his input, when he has indeed got us points (ironically bailing Pardew out of mess again) then it is unfair.

Telling Hatem he needs more goals and assists to play, yet as Next Mike listed, he has dont that. Shola kept playing although having zero goals and the same with Jonas. The movement around him is dreadful, even when we came fifth and were nicking goals after many disjointed performances.

Pardew is a two faced liar.

There has been a long road of deterioration by Pardew for Ben Arfa. He was sparkling when we played 3 up front and attacked for those few games. Just as he did for his other clubs until defensive tactics were employed. Niafron spoke of it before.

It’s all there to unlock the best from him. Pardew doesn’t have a clue, or the key.

  • 7 Rotonda heights // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:39 AM

    jamestoon

so you say it would be good to have carroll back for 2 derby games. A bit Short sighted or what. Mind you they’d probably be the only 2 games he would be fit for.

Pardew probably thinks he will get back onside with the wonga brigade. so so sad.

  • 9 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:42 AM

Oh doesn’t Carroll and Ben Arfa split the fans opinions!!!!!

  • 10 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:42 AM

Tads…you do know Benny can be named in January right?

…what are the chances of Pardew getting 4 new players when he is having a £60k player at his disposal among others.

    I don’t think I am being the fool here…

  • 11 expatmag // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:45 AM

Lets be honest here, Ben Arfa might as well leave now because Pardew isnt going anywhere soon.

There are much better options than Carroll out there. Personally, i would go for the german Kesselring or at a push, Jordan Rhodes.

  • 12 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:47 AM

I like what Carroll can do as it’s great that a player can be so dominant in the air. I’m tall too ;-) however I would never let Pardew near him as all he would go direct everytime.

Unfortunately, his injuries and heavy drinking problem which he seems to have maintained is no good, plus he’s on such high wages.

In the right circumstances of team play, lower wages and cheap signing fee with a different manager, better injury record and no alcohol problem, then I’d have him back.

That isn’t the case though, so no, I wouldn’t have him back.

    Ukrainians or Russians ?

  • 14 cestriasteve // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:49 AM

    Expat,

Hasn’t rhodes just signed an improved contract with the chicken pluckers?

  • 15 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:50 AM

    Jesper
He can’t be named in January, new players can be registered, he cant if he hasn’t been registered with a squad number

What the hell are you on about 4 new players? Who mentioned that?

I was just interested how it was you saw Ben Arfa wasting another year of his career by not playing is sticking it Pardew?

  • 16 Bambams // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:50 AM

Slowly but surely we seem to be dropping down the list of our targeted strikers

Lacazatte, Ba, Ings, Benteke, Carroll have all been mentioned.

But what is the craic re PEA ? We scouted him for ages and he is not playing that regularly in Germany.

Am I missing something, is he too similar to Rivvy that we are not going for him. Just does not look good on our scouting team that ‘if’ he is a possibility we are no longer interested.

He has pace and can finish. Dont want big Andy back and cant see us getting Lukaku…
    So PEA would be great

    imo

  • 19 Shot Bru // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:51 AM

Expatmag…I reckon the pressure is bang on Pardew at the beginning of the season..if he doesn’t get off to a good start to the season it will be curtains for P45DUE..

Ashley will be expecting results after backing his manager with a few new players…

  • 20 expatmag // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:55 AM

    Bambams

What makes you think Dortmund would let PEA leave after a relatively successful season in the bundesliga and CL for an ambitionless midtable EPL team?

  • 21 Jail for Ashley // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:56 AM

    Shot Bru,
Unfortunately I don’t think you’re right there, all that Mike Ashley will be concerned with is that 40 points and Pardew spouting that every player has a price.

  • 22 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:57 AM

Jail…it is not easy to explain. Dutch is a bit like German. The g is a fricative and it sounds a bit like Ch with a short gurgling sound!

…don’t know if that make sense.

  • 23 cestriasteve // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:58 AM

PEA, no chance the big clubs are circling round marco reus

  • 24 expatmag // Jul 20, 2014 at 9:59 AM

    Shot

Assley had the perfect opportunity to get rid of him after the headbutt incident without paying out compensation. What makes you think a bad start will change that thinking considering the second half of last season results

  • 26 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 20, 2014 at 10:00 AM

  • 27 Bambams // Jul 20, 2014 at 10:01 AM

    Expatmag

Cant argue with you fella, I cant.

I am sure I read earlier posts some days/weeks ago that it was reported he did not play as many games towards the end of the last season.

I have put two and two together and come up with six !

I think Ed suggested a while ago we were in for him this window so just thought it a possibility.

    Cheers for the craic

  • 28 Shot Bru // Jul 20, 2014 at 10:01 AM

JFA….if we continue the same form from the end of last season, P45DUE will get nowhere near 40 points…

  • 29 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 20, 2014 at 10:02 AM

The novelty of the new club effect for players will carry them through games alone for a while as they try to look good for the fans, but once they get settled in and containment football kicks in, who knows how it will affect them…

Pinocchio will have a few excuses lined up already about new players blending in, Janmaat getting through to semis etc. Science, grass length, too hyped, too toired will all be on his mind as well and probably one with Hatem will be involved, even though he’s doing his best to banish him completely out of the picture.

Shame Pardew himself isn’t banished out of the picture.

  • 30 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 20, 2014 at 10:05 AM

Tads…Transfer window” is the unofficial term commonly used by the media for the concept of “registration period” as described in the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Player. According to the rules, each national football association decides on the time (such as the dates) of the ‘window’ but it may not exceed 12 weeks. The second registration period occurs during the season and may not exceed four weeks.

    No worries mate.

I find it so frustrating that a club our size should be challenging fir a top 4 spot and yet here we are, saddled with a miserly billionaire and an inept manager struggling to keep up with the likes of swansea southampton sunderland and stoke

  • 32 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 20, 2014 at 10:07 AM

Tads…I don’t know hoe to rephrase what I wrote, sorry!

  • 33 Shot Bru // Jul 20, 2014 at 10:08 AM

JFA…probs the best way to to describe the ‘g’ in Dutch… Think of the ‘ch’ in Loch…the way the Jocks pronounce it.

Almost as if you are about to hack up some phlegm ;-)

  • 34 Jail for Ashley // Jul 20, 2014 at 10:08 AM

    Jesper,
I speak a fair bit of Dutch and it is more like a k, that’s why I can’t understand where the h comes from.
    Shot Bru,
I think just enough will be done in the transfer market to stave off last seasons form, if we’re in trouble more will be spent in January, if we’re ok someone will be sold.

  • 35 bobby mango // Jul 20, 2014 at 10:09 AM

I’d love Benteke here but it’s just not going to happen. If he was available champions league teams from all over Europe would be interested.

Someone’s just posted on my Facebook timeline that OL frontman Lacezetta wants a move to Newcastle but OL want £15.8m for him! From the BBC sport website

Pretty sure it’s bollox but can’t be arsed checking if it’s on there lol

you are now dipstick of the week, AC back at the Newcastle?

who the hell are you kidding and anyone else for that matter who believe we should have Carroll back!

so far we have done really good getting in good players and at last we have creativity not just 1 but 2 creative players.

and what’s the reward for this fantastic transfer window?

Pardew yes Pardew want’s to bring in AC not Carr or Lee or even MA himself but Pardew, and with Hernandez wanting to go and many other good strikers Pardew want’s a injury prone striker who is mostly out 6 months every year, a Target man who we don’t need/want back at Newcastle,

and also 14 million who the f@ck are WHU trying to kid with that sum for AC more like 3 million

    rant over ;)

with the players we have now we are set up as 4-2-3-1 even though we still have no natural wingers but Cabella and HBA should suffice ( if HBA stays )

we have 2 strikers atm Riv & Cisse so to me we don’t need any more strikers instead why don’t we promote Campbell and Armstrong to first team, give these guys a chance to prove there worth

So Benny should continue to essentially self destruct his own career on the off chance Pardew is sacked before the 1st of February?
All to teach Pardew a lesson?
And then not get a new contract anyway due to age and and wages?

How does that make any sense to any party? Surely it’s best for everyone for HBA to move on now?

  • 43 phatt knacker // Jul 20, 2014 at 10:30 AM

Who knows whats a smoke screen nowadays but AC back cannot be for real. As others have mentioned on here if the fee,wage,playing/injury record was improved never mind his lifestyle choices were all sorted then maybe. But sadly its alot of ifs.

  • 44 banjax // Jul 20, 2014 at 10:56 AM

Romelu Lukaku is a very promising quality young striker with his best years in front of him. A bid of £10 / £12m should be enough to get him.

  • 45 Tig // Jul 20, 2014 at 11:02 AM

look to be honest im quite happy with how we line up at the moment
    krul
    janmaat – s taylor/mbiwa/colo/willo – haidara/dummett/santon
    colback/anita tiote
    sissoko/HBA SDJ cabella/sammy
    riviere/cisse

i believe this is a top 6 team and i also think any signings from now we can count as a bonus

I’ve seen the Bbc article about Lacazette. If we are willing to shell out money for injury prone Andy Carroll we should def go in for Lacazette. Hes a current international and would work well with Cabella and SDJ.

    I doubt it.

‘Lukaku for 12m’ what for his boots. Lukaku woul bey dream signing. But bidding would start at 20m and likely finish at 30m. However you’d double your money in 18months time.
