The following policies should be taken into consideration before commenting:
An update on my health situation - we have terminated the PluVicto treatment halfway through, because of the severity of the side effects - diarrhea, vomiting, and acid reflux.
And there was no evidence the treatment was having any positive effect in stopping the prostate cancer from spreading in the bones.
There are no treatments left for me to go on.I will go into home hospice care now and will have a hospice nurse visit me at home regularly to ensure I am as comfortable as possible and we will treat the side effects of the treatments I have had.
It's down the final stretch now, and I have run out of treatments, and nature will now take its course.
I hope Newcastle can get many wins this season from now on, and I am at peace with all of this.
Thanks for all your help through the years - it's very much appreciated

Comment #3I personally don’t think its bad. I don’t know why we can’t just have a kit which looks similar to the new Juventus one, now that shirt is classy.

anyone noticed how riviere and de jong were quickly substituted before an hour mark. this tells how effective both will be this season in pardews masters plan.
Not sure what your point is here, ganiyu. In freindlies, managers try different players?

I have been pardew’s fiercest critic and I know it was low grade opposition and nothing at stake, but when we occasionally see glimpses like today when the ball was passed on the deck in both halves and we were a threat throughout 90 mins, you just wish he would adapt that style more often.
Today was a very enjoyable watch, not just because we won but we played positive pass and move football and when the players are upbeat that’s half the battle.
When you look at the England cricket team for example, Cook is a very defensive, cautious player and captain and that transmits to the rest of the team.
Today Colo was superb and got the ball moving out of defense very slickly, like the Colo of old.
These are potentially exciting times ahead and I just hope Pardew has the courage of his convictions to keep playing this way even if we lose some games along the way.

Honestly, it would look better with a photo of a dog turd on it, rather than the blue Wonga-splat.

Comment #11Pit-stop needed. New manager out, new manager in.
Mark, in the scheme of things I wouldn’t look at today’s game too positively or negatively. It is a friendly. As I said, we scored 4 against Motherwell last year.
Today, a couple of very fortuitous goals which has been Pardew’s lifeline, so that seems to be continuing.
The luckiest puppet in storyland.
They played neat 10 or 15 yard balls all game, but got nowhere.

Comment #12I really liked the finish from Armstrong – kept his head. And I think we are going to hear a lot more about young Aarons. That could develop into a strong left side with Haidara reminiscent of Guti and Enrique from the Championship year

Like I said, just a friendly with a weak team which gave us the goals, so I don’t draw ANY conclusions.
IF this meant anything, it was disappointing in terms of that moment, that piece of brilliance; singling out any of our new players. e.g. Riviere sure don’t look like a speed merchant does he? But I’m falling into the trap of drawing conclusions…
The score is deceptive and no one had a standout is all.

Comment #15Regarding more “ins” I think we may need to see more “outs” first to get the wage bill down – so good to see there’s interest to take Marveaux, even if it’s on loan.

We all have conceded that it was a freindly against low grade opposition, but the conclusions are very clear to see. 1) we are trying to play attacking football, as long as this develops as the games get harder, this looks likena positive.
2) Players who looked good, despite being way down the pecking order, and probably playing against their own level of oposition today… Aarons arma and cambo. Bodes well for the future if they are used wisely his year.
3) The geling process is well underway, with two of our bigger signings still to come in to the team. We looked organised and fit. We limited them to the odd long range effort. We did as expected against this team, given the side we put out.
Finally, had we not played ANY first teamers, and lost 1-0, how many would be going “aarrgghh, kill everone, pardew to be burned as a witch and sjp to be renamed “hell”?

Comment #21deeps…. Gnabry could be a fantastic player one day but i don’t see the point unless we got him on a permanent basis. Would rather we blooded perez aarons rather than improving gnabry then handing him straight back to arsenal.

Comment #24Cant believe earlier comments on here from some on the performance of the newbies. For gods sake man it’s a friendly. It was for some their 1st competitive game as a team and were slated as long as 9 mins into the game.A friendly is used primarily for fitness and then to ascertain the way they play and gel. God help us when we do kick off this season

Comment #26Mark, “as long as this develops”. Not for a few friendly games, not for half a dozen games of the season either.
That is the key.
Record numbers of hideous displays don’t get wiped away on the back of a few early season promising games.
That’s just my view of it course.
We’ll see. The new players will have the novelty of new club syndrome to carry them few some games to start with anyway and the others will be a bit more on their toes. So without any really management, you will see a boost.

i dont expect us to play against city the way we played but after them we have a good run of games to play this way
have to say first time i seen Aarons he has a wicked cross that low shaped cross that strikers love,
he linked well with hadiara,

Comment #30Mark, not screwed, just with not much changing from the last 14 defeats in 20 games I think the commentator said and equally the worst run of defeats in our history. We only didn’t break it by beating a relegated side.

Like i said earlier, no one is getting carried away. (Actually i quite like the swallow/paddling pool thing 😀 )
I hated pardews negatory tactics, i was pleased to see attacking football today, with a couple of surprisingly good showings from a few of the kids. These are positives, but i accept they only REMAIN as such if we develop, build on this and continue to use these tactics throughout the season. I dont trust pardew to do this much, but on the other hand today has given me a slight bit of hope.

Comment #33Surprised people going on about Benteke – he’s been the most offside player in the prem the last few seasons by a country mile – having both him and Cisse in the team would mean we would never get an attack coming to anything ( we all know how bad we are at corners)

Comment #34I thought the game was a decent watch, Mbiwa at RB angered me though, he was ok today but the way he plays is a disaster waiting to happen against better opposition. The way he turns and his awareness screams CB. Pardew better stop playing him there.
Aside from that agreed with whoever said Rivière looked slow, probably lack of fitness but he looked a less effective carbon copy of Gouffran.
Aarons easily the pick of the bunch, direct, tricky and more importantly he can actually cross, and pretty well. He needs a little strength training and experience but he could be a good premier league player.
All in all, good workout.

Comment #36I watched the entire game here live in Oz and whilst not a Pardew fan, I found the display encouraging despite the quality of the opposition.
Dont forget, the likes of Sissoko Tiote Krul Cabella Cisse and Janmaat were missing.
The youngsters impressed and we could have a couple of decent finds in Armstrong and Aarons.
It will be interesting to see how they gel against tougher opposition but all in all, it was very encouraging display.

On riviere. He deffo looks a bit off the pace, but on the other hand, his awareness for the first goal, and his positioning for his goal with the little step in to catch the defender out gives me some hope he could end up being useful for us. At least he looks a tryer. He did more in one half than shola has for 2 years 😀
