More news of Newcastle today on the transfer front, and we have been linked with a Chilean International who has just turned 26 – so he’s at the right age.
Mauricio Isla – we know what he looks like in black and white stripes
The news is coming from reports originating in Chile, with Newcastle said to be interested in the versatile right-sided player Mauricio Isla, who is currently at Juventus, and was part of Chile’s World Cup squad in Brazil.
The news is that Isla is close to a move to Newcastle United for about £7.6M, after the two clubs have said to have reached an agreement on the fee.
Isla is certainly versatile and can play at full-back, on the wing or in central midfield, and over the last two seasons he has not had a lot of playing time for Juventus, since he moved there from Udinese in June of 2012.
In the last two seasons in Italy he has played about 20 times in each season, and he would like to get more playing time at another club.
The 5’9¨ tall player made his debut for Chile at the young age of 19 in a friendly against Switzerland, way back in September 2007.
In that same year he moved to Italian club Udinese from Chilean club Universidad Catolica, and stayed there for five seasons.
Right back seems to be his best position, but that will not be were he plays at Newcastle if he does arrive on Tyneside, and he could be used on the right wing or in central midfield, with Jan Janmaat of Feyenoord having already been signed by Newcastle.
Mauricio Isla was in the Chilean World Cup squad in Brazil, and he played every minute of Chile’s four World Cup games.
But with Newcastle needing strikers, a center-back and a midfield play-maker this seems a strange move by Newcastle – if the news in Chile is true.
If Isla does move to Newcastle, it will be the third club in a row he’s played for who play in black and white stripes.
That’s got to be a hint this news is true. 😀

Comment #1Rushed article? Take your time, we can wait.
I’d take him as long as it’s not at the detriment of a signing a striker. Where is the striker!?

Comment #2Spoof, yeah nothing has changed and to be honest I can’t see it changing. I’m just saying, you never know. Perhaps as ridiculous as it sounds the reason we’ve not signed players in the past is because we’ve not had the people needed to actually make signings in the first place. I mean Joe Kinnear? That was mental and little wonder we signed nobody. Charnley could be the key for all we know. Thats what I think gets to everyone, we know so little about the ins and outs at our club these days. But I have to say, I’m trying to stay positive until the window closes and am very happy with what we’ve brought in so far

lets hope so, certainly Charnley has done a decent job, the chances are due to how the squad was he was given a bit more rope but credit where it’s due he has used that extra rope quite well, so far any way, but now is the real test, how many times have been so close to a decent side ( which I feel we could now have ) and a decent squad to support the side but then let ourselves down by not getting those extra 2/3 players in which would give us quality when the dreaded injuries come around, aka last season, we are now in that same position, as it stands a good side with a weak squad and your looking mid table as we were last season, whereas a striker, playmaker and CB and we could be in business, now is the big test as so far all we have done is secure our PL status with what we currently have.

Comment #8This is just recycled from earlier in the window i think. Signing this guy means two “purple” right backs. We would be more likely to sign a cb who can cover rb. Economy rules at nufc.

Comment #9spoof – totally agree with all that. Lets just hope this window is the one! 2-3 more players and we’d be sorted. Provided we don’t let anyone else major leave that is. Think Ben Arfa’s gone like ,would be amazed if he returned. Such a shame as a genuinely talented bloke, just seems to lack that inner drive that all the best players have

Comment #10If we did sign Isla could it be feasible for Janmaat to play in front of him with Isla veing the more defensive of the 2, for Holland where Janmaat was so impressive he was used as more of a winger than a full back, I could be totally wrong but it is just a thought.

Comment #17roblee- it is a shame about Ben Arfa, if he was a teenager or in his early 20’s then you keep him and try to correct the wrongs but at his age it isn’t going to happen, if it was going to happen then it would have done by now, however such is life, but with Cabella we may if he can handle the physicality of the PL have another on the edge of your seats player, fingers crossed on that one as well.

I don’t get the link, yes they are both Chilean but even so why spend £8m or so on Isla if the real aim is to get Bacca, I don’t get that, it can’t be a double swoop as they play for different teams in different counties.

Comment #23Made that up by the way, but would be concerned if Isla signs, there is bound to be a bombshell before the window slams shut… Just bound to be, just to knock the squad as things were looking up eh….
Don’t know why Tiote is a shoe in for most people for our current team, couldn’t live with Colbeck in two derby games last year, the most overrated player at the club. We will play better football without him, Sissoko and Colbeck for me in our midfield two, both offer legs and offensive threat, Tiote should warm the bench, offers little in most games.

Comment #27Hernandez is no good, waste of money and isn’t what Parsnip wants, the whole team needs a target man whilst Percy is here as he has no idea on how to get the football up the pitch by playing the ball along the deck.
He’s clueless, people need not forget this as excitement builds about the squad, Ashley, Carr and Charnley are building.
Pardew Out. Never Forget….

Comment #28Isla would provide good back up for jamaat, but primarily I’d say he prefers playing right wing. Decent player. But would prefer the money went on wijnaldum.
Or if we want to boost our home grown numbers we could spend the money on someone like byram who’s a great prospect and plays rb or rw

Absolutely. I think there’s a strong chance we lose SISSOKO abd that’s lame.
At least we now sign players before selling them! Haha.
If we keep Sissoko, we’ll have the best midfield we’ve had in years

What you lads on about? Bacca is from Colombia and Isla from Chile.
About two hours ago:

I’m told there’s nothing in the rumour that #nufc have agreed a deal for Mauricio Isla.

Understand #nufc have no interest in Mauricio Isla.

I agree with you on this I think Tiote should count himself lucky he is one of Pardews favourites !
He is bad in the tackle , gives away bad fouls, loses possession easily and has no patience on the field always hits stupid shots rather than keep the ball he is also poor at tracking runners
People slag Anita but he will offer a lot more in a pass and move system also offers intelligence to cover the full back when they go forward Tiote does not
For me if we are going to be more attack minded this season Tiote really needs to step his game up big time

Comment #37I find it laughable that a PL midfielder (Tiote) can have such a poor shot . These guys get paid £ 50 grand a week yet I could have a better effort on goal FFS .
Same as Gutierrez who couldn’t cross a ball to save his life despite being a winger .

Strongest eleven if I could have my way! (provided one individual bucks their ideas up n sheds a few pounds!) On the back line…I’m not totally convinced by Santon!! As for Tiote, prefer Colback already, not as rash and doesn’t give away the ball in stupid positions like Tiote seems to do at least once per game
